Seeing so many threads about properties and the difference in prices reported I get why it can be so difficult for people to imagine the differences between areas.

Would IBU to be curious and ask you to hop on primelocation and see what are the cheapest and the most expensive properties within 5 miles of your home? Ignore shared ownership, retirement only and investment student studios. Obviously you don't have to post links, just say the area so you can keep anonymous.

I will start.
NW big city
The cheapest:
2 bed flat 35k. Fully livable! Just needs decorating. 15 min to city centre.
The most expensive: 😮
8 bed, oh so amazing, grade 2 listed £1,995,000. 25 min to city centre.

I did the cheapest property I could find. Excluding garages / narrowboats

East Cheshire.

Highest: £8000,000 for a 5 bed detached country house.

Lowest: £21,995 for a 3 bedroom park home (glorified static caravan)

Just for a laugh I’ve looked at more and there’s 1.2mol for a 2 bed terrace 😩

Cheapest is 1 bed flat, newly refurbished £23,500 bus stop right outside, 20 mins to Newport city, 30 mins to Cardiff.

Most expensive is 5,000 square ft 6 bed detached house with 10 acres of land, only 10yrs old, 20 mins from Cardiff.

Live in Northumberland

Cheapest house £16,500 for a mid terrace
Most expensive £2,750,000

Crazy that this is within 5 miles of each other !

Berkshire-

Most expensive is a 5 bedroomed home for £5.5 million.
Cheapest is a mobile home for £90k.

Commuter town 20 minutes to London, just north, offers in excess of £200 000 000, 4 beds.

Cheapest £104 000 one bedroom flat.

South Norfolk here! Cheapest is a 1 bed ‘apartment’, quite nice really, got a little garden and a garage en bloc. £125k

Most expensive is £1.75m for an admittedly gorgeous country house - 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, stables, paddock, kitchen garden, formal gardens, orchard. Nice. They’ve dropped the price though.

$9 million for a 9 bed, 9 bathroom, staff quarters, billiards room, carriage house and stable.

$120,000 for a 3 bed, one bathroom.

Yorkshire.

Most expensive is £4 million for a grade II* listed Jacobean manor house with a river, with good commuter links.

Cheapest is £120k for a one bedroom ex-council ground floor flat which seemed to be in decent condition.

I sometimes wince when people on Mumsnet talk about how how cheap it is to live "up North".

Oh tell a lie, £1.175m. Missed a digit off there. When are we getting an edit function?!

Cheapest is 1 bed flat for £18,000

Most expensive is 20 bedroom Stately Hall for £2,000,000

Warwickshire village

Moated Manor House recently sold just shy of 2 million.

Terraced Victorian in need of work £190,000

South Essex
1 bed flat £200,000 cheapest and not that nice 5 miles away in town
5 bed house 3 miles from here £3,750,000
Very modern recently done up to high spec

Within 5 miles of small market town in NW. Ignoring the actual cheapest and most expensive listings which are both plots of land...the cheapest property is £20,000 for a 1 bed flat in a high rise. The most expensive property listing are all “price on application” for 5 bed detached houses with a decent plot of land in a semi-rural village location. The highest with an actual price is £1.8 million for a rural barn conversion.

Hackney, London

Cheapest:
10K a garage.

Most expensive:
60,000,000
6 bedroom listed house with staff quarters.

There were cheaper mobile homes, but I didn't count them.

Oxfordshire

Cheapest 78,000 for a 2 bed flat
Dearest 6,250,000 7 bed victorian villa with a lift, of all things

Zone 2 north London.

Cheapest (ignoring house boats and garages ) is £180k for a studio

Most expensive is £36MILLION!! 7 bed detached house

East London here!
