Friend is on holiday abroad at the mo & is literally posting 20 photos daily on Facebook and Instagram. Her holiday looks lovely but why the hell would you waste your precious holiday time posting constantly on social media? When I go on hols, we switch off all phones & social media to get away from it all as generally I am frazzled and want a break from everything.
Aibu or is this the done thing now? It’s like a bloody ‘look at us’ news report every day 🤪

I do it to show off Grin

BeenThereDone · 21/07/2019 17:02

My dB is away at the moment pretending to be a travel blogger.... It's fucking annoying

LifeIsGoodish · 21/07/2019 17:07

Are your friends burglars MigGril and LifeisGoodish?!

Not AFAIK. But I don't know anything about their privacy settings.

MyFokMarelize · 21/07/2019 17:07

I love seeing holiday pictures IF they are of the place, people, scenery etc. I really can't be doing with pictures of hot-dog legs, pouting bikini selfies and - although this has only happened once - enormous plates of full english breakfast in Tenerife! Why the actual fuck would you go abroad to eat fucking English breakfast and then tell the world that that is how dumb you are? Grin

cavalier · 21/07/2019 17:08

Having such a great time they have to post on Social Media
Surely if it was that great, they wouldn’t have time ? 🙄

cavalier · 21/07/2019 17:08

Not good idea it let people know your house is empty either ( if it is of course )

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 21/07/2019 17:14

I think YABabitU.. We all use social media differently. I often add a few holiday photos, although probably not every day. It creates an album that I can look back on; I’ve had phones and computers die on me, taking my photos with them, but I still have everything I’ve uploaded to Facebook.

Holidayaddict · 21/07/2019 17:16

Surely if your privacy settings are high and you trust your friends, posting that you are away is not a risk?

I generally like seeing other people's holiday photos and get inspiration from them. I do agree about the zillion photos a day of the same things though and dislike ones where they are obviously showing off such as posting from the Exec Club Lounge etc.

I post more on holiday than I do normally (usually a once a fortnight or so type of poster). If it's a sitting round the pool type holiday I'll post far less than one where we're visiting lots of different places and I want to look back on the places I've been, like a sort of diary.

IvanaPee · 21/07/2019 17:18

I often wonder how out of touch people on here who moan about SM are.

It takes about ten seconds to post photos to IG and FB. Why would you assume they’re wasting any real holiday time by posting??

Posters here are weirdly bitter about social media. And it’s mad because they always claim to see “friends’” posts.

Some friends! Hmm

If you don’t want to see the photos you don’t have to look.

thentherewascakes · 21/07/2019 17:23

some people relax with their phones, some with a book 🤷

It takes 3 seconds to post 1 photo, and some people like to keep an album of their holiday photo.

Good for them. I like to see holiday pics of my friends.

I don't switch off my phone on holiday personally.

Somersetlady · 21/07/2019 17:30

@StripeySocks29 i also share pics of my kids with my family just not on a public medium. Normally iMessage or whatsapp.

Even if i did announce to the would that i was on holiday the burglar would find the house/dog sitter in residence when they cases the joint!

Somersetlady · 21/07/2019 17:36

Pp who claim they want to upload the pics to keep safe/ look at themsleves do you put the settings for who can see this post to only me (you!) ?

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 21/07/2019 17:37

I don’t get it either. If I want to share pics it’s family I can use WhatsApp’s and not annoy anyone else. Most of social media is about showing off though I’ve found.

HairyFloppins · 21/07/2019 17:38

We do USA road trips so I like to look back on our journey for the memories.

Plus I post loads to wind up a certain family member.

Gatehouse77 · 21/07/2019 17:38

I don’t know if it’s just because of social media but also the ease of sharing photos now.
We’re currently on holiday (6:30am so am lying in bed waking up slowly 😊) and my siblings are the ones requesting photos. I hate it and, honestly, feel hounded by it. I will/have send/sent a few here and there on WhatsApp to appease them. I’m not a massive photo taker anyway and I’m definitely not someone who will spend time ‘setting up’ a shot. I’m here to enjoy my holiday with my family and not document it for others.
Happy to share when we get home...

thentherewascakes · 21/07/2019 17:40

If I knew I had some of the posters in my contact list, I would upload a ton of luxury holiday photos just to wind them up!

RosesAndRaindrops · 21/07/2019 17:41

I love seeing people's pictures. That's what FB is for, surely? To see what others are doing?!
It takes literally seconds to take a photo and add it to FB, so it's hardly "constantly uploading."
Everyone's different. if you don't like seeing them then hide them.

PuppyMonkey · 21/07/2019 17:42

I sort of expect this on social media at this time of year, so don’t really begrudge it. But I do feel under immense pressure to “like” every post by some friends/family, otherwise it might be “noticed” by them. Anyone else?

IvanaPee · 21/07/2019 17:45

Not at all!

PuppyMonkey · 21/07/2019 17:47

Just me then.Grin

Lllot5 · 21/07/2019 17:50

Vanity all is vanity.

SilverySurfer · 21/07/2019 17:52

Ugh - I'm thankful I don't use social media. I have zero interest in the minutiae of people's lives. If they have been to somewhere interesting I look forward to hearing about it when they return but endless selfies would bore me to death.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 21/07/2019 17:52

Having such a great time they have to post on Social Media. Surely if it was that great, they wouldn’t have time?

I don't like this attitude. It takes around 10 seconds to post a photo to SM and for most families there's a huge amount of time available compared to when they're at home and frantic. It doesn't mean they're not enjoying themselves just because they're posting, not remotely, and it's patronising to say "if you were having that much fun you wouldn't have time to post" because fun and enjoyment don't stop when you take a minute to post a snap of the DC jumping in the pool.

Friends of ours are on holiday with their DC at the moment; we've had more conversations through Messenger over the last three days than we've had in the last three weeks simply because we're both on holiday. I think it's lovely to see photos of people enjoying their lives.

countrygirl99 · 21/07/2019 17:54

We post photos because FIL likes showing them to very disabled MIL. Any burglars would get a shock if they turned up as we are not the only ones that live at our house.

Pinktinker · 21/07/2019 17:55

I really don’t miss Facebook for crap like this, I had most people muted when I used it Grin.
