Amazon prime - who ibu?

My ‘d’bro (who has form for being a knob and I think is narcissistic) posted a ‘funny’ meme on the family WhatsApp group of a pile of amazon parcels with the caption ‘don’t drink and prime’
My ds countered with a link to a news story about amazon workers striking over bad working conditions www.theverge.com/2019/7/16/20696154/amazon-prime-day-2019-strike-warehouse-workers-inhumane-conditions-the-rate-productivity
Bro is offended, left the group straight away and SIL posted angry faces and said ds had upset him with his ‘disapproving’ response.
I think dbro is the unreasonable one (and an arse). AIBU?

Your DS sounds a right bellend.

And your DB/SIL need to grow up.

Your family gatherings must be an absolute hoot!

That’s what I got from it, roundbottomflask (knowing my DS and brother)
I do accept I’m wearing mum goggles though.

Your son is a pain in the arse and your brother over reacted (unless there's a history here of your son thinking he can 'tell off' his uncle in which case you need to have a word with him)

Mydogmylife · 21/07/2019 22:06

@SiliconHeaven
Mum goggles are indeed a treacherous thing! Sadly the majority of posters not wearing them have interpretated the situation rather differently to you and roundbottomflask.

VivienneHolt · 21/07/2019 22:06

Yes DS was a bit annoying to post that article but I can see why he thought it was OK to post it

He’s going to struggle in life if he’s genuinely this blind to how insufferable this kind of sanctimony is. OP’s brother sounds rude, childish and tiresome but even the most reasonable person would be provoked by a 23yo responding to a lighthearted joke with hypocritical, po-faced judgment.

Whatisinaname1 · 21/07/2019 22:18

Just remember sometimes mum goggles are the equivalent of very rose tinted specs and much as we love our kids they, like us, can behave dickish sometimes.

LadyRannaldini · 21/07/2019 22:45

Six and two threes, an over-sensitive brother who makes feeble jokes and a sanctimonious daughter who has had a sense of humour by-pass.

LadyRannaldini · 21/07/2019 22:47

Sorry, a sanctimonious son etc...

GrassIsntGreener · 21/07/2019 22:48

It was just a joke comment, taken way, way too seriously.

rockingchaircandle · 21/07/2019 22:59

Brother can post a joke. Son can post an interesting article.

Brother stropping off is immature.

Why are people getting so angry about the article? You can use Amazon and still worry about the workers. The workers were particularly striking on prime day, so it was linked. I think they were hoping people would boycott prime in solidarity.

It's not sanctimonious/ dull etc to raise awareness! You're not claiming to be an angel just for bringing it up. Overconsumption isn't great (for human workers or the environment) and there's nothing wrong with discussing it!

Contraceptionismyfriend · 21/07/2019 22:59

Like uncle like nephew it seems.

PinkFlowerFairy · 22/07/2019 07:11

Rocking. Nothing wrong with the article itself, its timing.

PinkFlowerFairy · 22/07/2019 07:15

It would be like posting a jokey picture about father christmas getting stuck up the chinney and replyong with a whole article about why lying to your children avout father christmas in inappropiate.

Or an advert for a water park and a reply about how not everyone in the world has enough access to water.

Or sharing a picture of a lovely meal and replying, "you do know not everyone has enough to eat,"

Or a picture of a new car and a reply all about emissions....

All may be valid articles or points but is really dickish to reply in reponse to someone sharing a funny /news/etc.

Id not stick around with someone who kept doing that...

NeatFreakMama · 22/07/2019 07:19

Your DS is trying to take a morally superior position off the back of a joke, it's boring more than anything. Flouncing is also weird.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 22/07/2019 07:22

Ahh, we were all a bit annoying at 23!

Everyone in the equation has been a dick. Roll your eyes and wait for it all to blow over

homeishere · 22/07/2019 09:17

DS, even at the age of 23 and with his own Prime account and bank account, is still PFB.

taylorowmu · 22/07/2019 09:26

Why are people getting so angry about the article?

It's not the article. It's the fact that the DS posted it after his uncle posted a bloody meme. For a joke. The DS tried to take the moral high ground and shoot his uncle down.

Turns out the little twat also uses amazon 🤷‍♀️

ChicCroissant · 22/07/2019 09:32

Nobody has said they are angry with the article?! The person who posted the link to the article uses Amazon themselves though, so not that concerned for the workers enough to stop using it!

The OP clearly dislikes her brother and views everything through the prism of 'brother is wrong' but as in this case, it can stop you seeing the full situation. The whole family may think the same of her brother, but they will also be thinking something similar about her son's actions as well. He may get away with it as he has youth on his side, but they won't be that forgiving forever. OP may have to point out how bad it looked!

rockingchaircandle · 22/07/2019 09:36

It's an important issue in the article. He's not my PFB and I would be more impressed with him than my brother, if I were the OP.

Some very OTT reactions about the son here, not surprised that some think it's fine to flounce off.

VapeVamp12 · 22/07/2019 09:39

Is your DS in uni by any chance? Sounds like my SS who likes to point out things like this all the time and really doesn't see the humour in anything anymore.

SiliconHeaven · 22/07/2019 12:59

No, he works and has his own house.
Turns out I was wrong he doesn’t have prime (Dd does)
Not a dripfeed, it doesn’t matter
