to think BBC should be privatised - pronto

First off, can I say I have mixed feelings about posting this. I hate political propaganda on MN, I really do. But I really also dislike BBC PC propaganda (for which I'm paying!!), and No. 2 the fact that most of their programmes are utter shite, from Antiques Roadshow to, well, just about everything else. There was a sensitive-ish BBC programme on Germaine Greer about 6 months ago but I struggle to think of anything else I've watched thats raised the intellectual bar above a pea-shoot.

You really do need to go to other channels for controversy, intellectual stimulation and enjoyment. Apart from their Comedy Department of course - brilliant (This Country and People Do Nothing are the exceptions). But really, the rest is a load of PC-Rest-Home crap. If I see another PubliC service Announcement on Eastenders or their so-called "news" on BBC also known as propaganda, I think I'll scream.

Really, they should put it out of its misery and kill it off and save us all £150 a year? I used to be neutral, but have really grown to dislike Auntie's "we know best" (they don't) over the last few years.

Iggly · 21/07/2019 18:28

Right wingers love to think they are oppressed though or being "silenced"

Victim mentality I guess.

sionnachbeag · 21/07/2019 19:03

They do have victim mentality.

TulipsInAJug · 21/07/2019 19:13

YeOldTrout I love the way you have deconstructed my post. Grin

OK, the pro-Remain bias is disgraceful.

Radio 3 is quite good. I like it.

The two are not contradictory.

And for 3 years there was very little movement or actual news about Brexit but Today spent 80 percent of its programme speculating about what might happen. So I stopped listening and turned over to Radio 3.

We shouldn't have to listen to World service
to get global news. I admit World Service is good but I want a mixture of national ms international news in my bulletin - to completely segregate the two and expect UK listeners of the Today programme just want UK news is narrow minded and patronising

TulipsInAJug · 21/07/2019 19:15

So right-wingers all have victim mentality. Right.

Last time I checked the victim mentality was coming from Corbyn and Co (we're not antisemitic, we're being attacked), from liberal university students with their safe spaces and no-platforming and from the trans community. All very right-wing stuff.

sionnachbeag · 21/07/2019 19:16

Brexit is the biggest political event for decades and could have massive impacts on the lives of millions of UK citizens.

Examples of pro remain bias?

Or is challenging the bollocks spouted vy leading brexiters not fair.

Iggly · 21/07/2019 19:17

Bollocks.

Right wingers make out they’re under attack from the poor (politics of envy), the immigrants (cockroaches as per Katie Hopkins), the left (tax grabbing).

Yet to see a positive right winger.

icannotremember · 21/07/2019 19:27

Given people claim it is ridiculously left wing and other people claim it is insanely right biased, I think its probably doing a pretty ok job overall of being neither.

There is so much more to the BBC than it's primary TV channels and I think YABVU.

TulipsInAJug · 21/07/2019 19:29

So 'bollocks' to the left wing identity politics culture of transgenderism etc? I'm surprised you dismiss it so lightly, very unwise. Identity politics is all about victim mentality and it's taken over the Left and it's not pretty.

BobbyBrewstersMagicTorch · 21/07/2019 19:31

Do you not understand public broadcasting? Just because you don't like it, you want to privatise it. When it will then cost more, be less diverse and stop millions of people getting enjoyment from minority programming.

You're clearly a Tory.

Iggly · 21/07/2019 19:32

Not sure how exactly you place trans genderism in the left wing “box”.....

And you’ve not really denied the victim mentality of the right.

That’s how extreme politics operates. Creating a culture of fear based on prejudice.

92AP · 21/07/2019 19:33

Peaky Blinders, Gavin and Stacey and Planet Earth are worth the £12 a month alone. If you don't like it then just don't watch it maybe?

Not saying its perfect, there has been far too many idiots given a platform in the name of staying 'impartial' but they also produce some brilliant television.

sionnachbeag · 21/07/2019 19:34

Identify politics is a term made up to bash people who used to be oppressed. Its used by powerful majorities who think minorities should shut up.

Strangely those who use it most are the most concerned about losing their identities.

FrightInTheNight · 21/07/2019 19:36

Totally agree.

Redglitter · 21/07/2019 19:41

At the end of the day, no one should be forced to pay for things they don't use. No one is forced to pay SKY if they don't subscribe. No one is forced to pay British gas of they're not a British gas customer. So why should someone watching ITv be forced to pay BBC

Exactly!

daisypond · 21/07/2019 19:48

You’re forced to pay for the NHS, even if you never see a doctor. You’re forced to pay for schools, even if you have no children. You’re forced to pay for benefits for those who need them, even if you don’t. You’re forced to pay for libraries, fire brigade, police, defence, etc. Because they are deemed things that benefit us all as a society. I put the BBC in this bracket. It has its flaws but I would never want to be without it.

newstart1337 · 21/07/2019 19:50

People are acting like all their favourite programs would disappear if the BBC was made a subscription package. They wouldn't. The BBC would just be forced to stop wasting millions and become a proper efficient business like every other subscription channel.

sionnachbeag · 21/07/2019 19:53

The BBC is efficient.

Inefficiency of public services is a good myth of the right.

daisypond · 21/07/2019 19:57

It would have to close channels and stop making programmes.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 21/07/2019 20:11

The BBC is efficient

Ahahahahahahahaha

Please watch the video I posted..
£8000 for a flight to Miami.
£1500 on a single meal.
£191000 giving BBC employees free tea and coffee.
£25000 in hotel rooms that were never used.
So on and so on..

Iggly · 21/07/2019 20:13

And what evidence do you have @MonkeyToesOfDoom that the private sector is more efficient?

You won’t have any because the private sector (clues in the name) is not clear to the public. It’s not easy to find out how well run businesses are.... so it’s easy to bash the public sector but only because they share more information.

sionnachbeag · 21/07/2019 20:21

yes cause YouTube videos are known for their accuracy.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 21/07/2019 20:22

I couldn't give a fuck about private companies using their own money to do what they like.

Remember, every penny the BBC wastes is from members of the public. Those same members of the public that they harass threaten, criminalise and fine if they don't pay.

Virgin doesn't write to me and threaten to take me to court if I choose Sky over them. If they decided to try what the BBC do, they'd be told to fuck right off.

Jsmith99 · 21/07/2019 20:31

The BBC is far from perfect. I’m left of centre, but even I find the Beeb’s constant, relentless obsession with political correctness and ‘diversity’ irritating at times. Conservatives who hardly ever see their worldview represented on the BBC’s non-news output must find it completely infuriating.

Personally, I would happily pay my license fee for R4 on its own, but the fact that non-payment remains a criminal offence is indefensible.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 21/07/2019 20:32

I agree. If l could easily opt out, l would.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 21/07/2019 20:32

Lots ppl insist the Beeb is right wing fuddy duddy Brexit supporting

YANBU for a state broadcaster it is very biased and only represents the views of the London left wing elite

Bbc pissing of both left and right. That seems to me to make me think their pretty balanced in their political output!

Out of a matter of interest though chocolate what part of the views of the leftest elite does nigel farage represent?? He seems to be given an awlful lot of BBC airtime.

Elitest, former investment banker, hypocrite possiably.

Left??? Really really really not sure on that one!@
