To really, really hate it when people put *sigh* in their posts?

When it's directed at another poster I mean. It doesn't have to be directed at me (I don't think that's ever happened actually) but it just makes me so annoyed. It's bloody patronising. Pisses me right off.

AIBU? (I'm definitely not WinkGrin)

Sigh....i know what you mean. Sigh.

Grin

Hang on. How do you turn on the votes thing?

OP posts:
thecatneuterer · 19/07/2019 15:23

I agree. I also (probably rather irrationally) hate 'sorry, but ..., as in 'sorry but I would consider that to be a problem'. I'm not sure why I hate that so much.

Titsywoo · 19/07/2019 15:24

Yeah those people aren't really sorry

LaMarschallin · 19/07/2019 15:28

I dislike all the "laughing 'til I cry hahaha" inserts, when the person who's claimed to be hysterically giggling is plainly livid and chewing off their fingernails with anger.

TheTitOfTheIceberg · 19/07/2019 15:32

It's that drives me up the wall. Why can no one ever say "just say this and then fake smile and walk away" or "tell them this with an insincere chuckle"? Why does it always have to be a tinkly laugh?

LoafofSellotape · 19/07/2019 15:34

No need for 'sigh' when you have the brilliant Hmm emoticon

diddl · 19/07/2019 15:38

Ooh please turn the votes on!

YADDDDDDDNBU btw!

thecatsthecats · 19/07/2019 15:39

YABU, because the worst is 'unMumsnetty hugs'.

Because if you think someone in need of a virtual hug, it is absolutely essential that you recognise that sending a virtual hug is Not The Done Thing Around Here, and signal that to your fellow Mumsnetters appropriately, lest you be directed that 'Netmums is that way, hun >>>'.

This is far more important than supporting the person concerned.

Elliebellbell · 19/07/2019 15:42

I don't mind it.

I do however hate:

HTH (hope this helps) I doubt that very much

Get a grip/hands op grip/get yourself down to the grip shop. Basically any variation on grip getting shite.

Head tilt. In what universe is someone going to be fundamentally shamed into changing their behaviour because some woman puts their wig at an angle?

TheJoxter · 19/07/2019 15:48

Could be worse, my ex puts it in texts!

Titsywoo · 19/07/2019 15:54

diddl - I don't know how!

I really don't mind.

On the other hand, the following gems:

-I am so angry on your behalf
-Red flag
-Triggering
-Naice
-I swear by
-interesting first post
-Fuck off Daily Mail
-and what weekend away/ evening out have YOU got (on complete random threads about a DH related question)
-laughing at posters who

Hmm

I am sure I could come up with a lot more Grin

WalkingInTheAir13 · 19/07/2019 16:33

@WhenOneFacePalmDoesntCutIt

Do you know the story of how naice became a MN classic word?

Maybe you do or maybe you don't but I think it's very funny.
Sigh. (not reallyWink)

WhenOneFacePalmDoesntCutIt · 19/07/2019 16:37

I think I do - if it's the "Naice ham" story

I still find it cringey, it's a bit like the "snap and farted', I have never found it so hilarious.
The screaming in the Sistine Chapel did make me smile though, and so do the "I am going to ignore your posts now" posters Grin
I also love the "it never happened" posts!

WalkingInTheAir13 · 19/07/2019 16:43

@WhenOneFacePalmDoesntCutIt

Quite correct! I just think it's so Hyacinth Bucket.

But I agree with all your other and the OP's dislikes.
I don't even know what Snapped & Farted means!

WhenOneFacePalmDoesntCutIt · 19/07/2019 16:50

it's now in the classics

oh gosh, is it that old?! I spend too much time on this forum Grin

KarmaStar · 19/07/2019 16:53

The patronising 'no?' At the the end of advice i.e. "You're asking to much of her no?"
so affected.

UrsulaPandress · 19/07/2019 16:54

Yay. A thing I hate about MN thread.

Hasn't been one for a few weeks.

::head tilt::

ChicCroissant · 19/07/2019 16:58

I dislike anything used in a passive-aggressive way, and sigh and HTH are repeat offenders unfortunately.

The phrase nip it in the bud is a little overused IMO as well, very popular at the moment.

LaMarschallin · 19/07/2019 17:05

Give your head a wobble.

I hate that (maybe because I don't really understand what it means).

WhenOneFacePalmDoesntCutIt · 19/07/2019 17:07

The patronising 'no?

tricky one. Not everybody is a native English speaker, so some funny-sounding sentences are just literally translated from their mother tongue.

You're in luck today - two for the price of one! There's another one going on about mumnetters being so easily 'shocked and horrified'.
