Posting here for traffic. Please be kind.

My husband bit into something hard on Monday and a massive filling fell out. It wasn’t painful because he’s had root canal on that tooth.

By Tuesday night it starting aching a bit. By Wednesday night he was in agony and started feeling feverish. He was up all night in tears (this man NEVER cries) he was in so much pain. Rushed him to the dentist this morning at 8:30. They did an X-ray and said there was a pretty bad infection. They put him on antibiotics and sent him home. Told him to come back at 2pm for an extraction. The tooth was extracted and apparently a lot of infected tissue came out with it. He is still a mess! The pain has settled down but he is exhausted and we are struggling to keep his temperature down. I’ve been alternating between paracetamol and ibuprofen but it only comes down to about 37.6 for an hour or so and then starts climbing again. At its worst it was 39.4. He is very clammy and just wants to sleep. Is this normal for an oral infection??? I want to call 111 but he says I’m being ridiculous and that the antibiotics will kick in soon. Something doesn’t feel right. He hasn’t really eaten in two days either. I made him soup and he only managed a few spoonfuls.

He never gets sick. We’ve lived in this area for 7 years and he only registered at the doctors 6 months ago. It’s just so unlike him. Any advice would be so appreciated! I just need someone to say whether this is normal and I can relax or I need to ignore him and call 111. Help!

Good call, better safe than sorry with infections.
If it took him that long to sign up to the drs, I’m assuming he’s the solider through type? If he is, it’s probably a good idea not to listen to him about a&e

Good shout OP

BlackeyedGruesome · 19/07/2019 00:11

Good luck op.

Rachie1973 · 19/07/2019 00:12

Sepsis is a real worry. My 16 year old developed it when pregnant, despite our GP dismissing it.

Easily missed if in the wrong place

I’m glad you’re going to A&E. Hope all is well xx

Nikhedonia · 19/07/2019 00:13

Fingers tightly crossed for you, OP.

ozymandiusking · 19/07/2019 00:15

I hope he's feeling better soon x

Catsandchardonnay · 19/07/2019 00:21

Low blood pressure is also a sign of sepsis, have you checked this OP?

JasperTheFriendlyGhost · 19/07/2019 00:21

sending well wishes

PurpleDaisies · 19/07/2019 00:22

Confused How?

oyoyoy · 19/07/2019 00:26

Could be sepsis. Glad you're getting it checked out. Please keep us posted. Thanks

Newschapter · 19/07/2019 00:28

Hope all goes well @KayJoMomo

Schuyler · 19/07/2019 00:28

PurpleDaisies to be fair, some people do keep blood pressure machines at home but usually only if they have a condition that they monitor.

I don’t think it’s helpful for people to try to scare the OP with upsetting stories. She’s done the right thing and they’re going to get medical attention. He’s in (or will be in) the right place, so fingers crossed.

It’s not exactly standard to have one.

snapple21 · 19/07/2019 00:29

Hope you get sorted quickly

ohtheholidays · 19/07/2019 00:32

Only just came on here but really glad you've taken your DH to the hospital and I hope he's seen quickly and feels much better soon.Flowers

I took a massive risk(without realising it)a few years ago when a piece of one of my teeth broke,I ignored it and took painkillers and had a temporary filling put in after 2 days of being in agony, the next day I passed out whilst at home and on my own, came round rang an ambulance and I was blue lighted into hospital and ended up spending nearly a week on 3 doses of the strongest antibiotics they could give me via drips and spent most of the week out of it.

When they removed the tooth at the hospital(they really struggled)the dentist managed to extract tons of the remaining infection as well,it was disgusting but the relief was huge.

People often don't realize just how dangerous an infection in a tooth can become but mine had caused a poison to build up around my jaw and if I hadn't come around when I did my poor family could have come home and found me to late.

Schuyler · 19/07/2019 00:34

PurpleDaisies you’re right. I agree. Even if they did have one, they need to seek medical attention. Fortunately, the OP sounds very sensible and level headed.

Glitter99x · 19/07/2019 00:37

Hey, definitely ring 111/ambulance. Chances are they are going to send out an ambulance. It could be sepsis, the antibiotics he was given should start working but it could be he needs another type. Even if 111 say no ambulance (which they won't) definitely get one sent out. That way he can be treated by a doctor.

WeLovePeaSoup · 19/07/2019 00:39

Hope all is ok. Please let us know what’s happening. I had something very similar when I was 6 years old and bit on a hard chewing gum. My teeth broke in half, dentist had to extract it. I had very high temperatures and definitely couldn’t eat anything. Got lots of injections in my legs like for two weeks or so,but luckily my Mum didn’t had to take me to the hospital.
Can’t remember exactly but I think they were talking about meningitis.
Hope it’s nothing serious x

Glitter99x · 19/07/2019 00:45

Sorry I didn't read all your replies. Hope all goes well at the hospital and speedy recovery whatever it is.

ThatCurlyGirl · 19/07/2019 01:04

So pleased you've taken him in OP, it's worth it if symptoms suggest anything to do with sepsis at all - it happens so fucking quickly.

If you're fobbed off keep saying you want to make sure it's not sepsis - keep making sure they check this (I'm sure they will it's just one of my friends was unlucky with it)

Please do let us know how he gets on, thinking of you both in the meantime Thanks

WinterRose92 · 19/07/2019 01:33

Aww bless him, I hope he’s okay.
You’re definitely doing the right thing in taking him to A&E.
