DH and I have been staying in a hotel in a northern city for a few days. At breakfast DH saw a lad about 12-13 filling up his water bottle from the orange juice dispenser while his mother stood and watched. She was obviously a bit embarrassed but not enough to say anything!

I see nothing wrong with it Confused

Cheeserton · 18/07/2019 09:53

Watching you see nothing wrong with taking loads extra breakfast products to take away?? That is NOT what it's for. It's for eating/drinking in the hotel at breakfast. There are also potential hygiene issues.

HiJenny35 · 18/07/2019 09:54

Really, not an issue is it? If it was a holiday inn many do take away breakfasts where you can take what you like and leave including drinks.

AuntyMarysBigRedPants · 18/07/2019 09:54

Was he drinking it with his breakfast ?

CatstorTroy · 18/07/2019 09:55

I don't understand how there are hygiene issues?

FriarTuck · 18/07/2019 09:57

I don't have a problem with one water bottle of OJ - I'm assuming it's a normal sized water bottle? It's no different to him drinking an extra glass while he's sat there. I do Hmm at people taking lots of extra food (the odd bread roll, fine) so that they're getting a whole extra (light) meal from it, and if an adult was taking alcohol I'd feel similarly Hmm, but OJ....

SerenDippitty · 18/07/2019 09:58

There were glasses there to drink it with breakfast.

In a hotel once I saw a family who, after eating a huge breakfast, made a packed lunch from the buffet breakfast and took it away with them wrapped in napkins. They weren’t particularly discreet about it either.

A bottle of orange juice for later is a bit cheeky but not quite CF level.

HulksPurplePanties · 18/07/2019 10:02

It's Cheeky sure, but generally anything not used, including juice, is tossed out at the end of the meal for "hygiene" reasons, so I really have no issues with taking extra food/drink from a buffet.

RolyWatts · 18/07/2019 10:03

I can't get worked up about it. I see people piling their plates with masses of food, or going back and forwards for seconds or thirds. My kids aren't great eaters in the morning so we'll usually wrap up a couple of croissants to take away when we stay in hotels.

whothedaddy · 18/07/2019 10:04

Is this serious? Are you all whiter than white and have never popped an apple in your bag for later at a breakfast buffet.

people that have 4/5 course breakfasts at a hotel buffet, or take stuff they know they can't/want eat and therefor waste food are the CF's

Member984815 · 18/07/2019 10:07

Nothing wrong with this

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 18/07/2019 10:11

I always take something for later. I think they hygiene thing is a little relevant, bottles touch off the nozzle of the juice machine and can pass on germs. We were away recently and they asked people not to fill water bottles from the restaurant water machines. There were better and more hygienic ones outside. ( I’m not a MN germaphobe)

pontiouspilates · 18/07/2019 10:11

Complete non issue for me.

IncandescentShadow · 18/07/2019 10:16

I don't think its too bad. He could have arguably been using his water bottle to drink from at the breakfast table. The tiny glasses usually are a bit useless.

I was annoyed recently at a hotel breakfast abroad, where a British coach party were making up their rolls with meat, cheese, jam, butter, etc from the continental breakfast buffet, while standing at the counter, thus holding everyone up. It was quite strange. An entire coach party slowly making rolls, rather than simply putting the stuff on their plates and taking them back to their tables, takes a long time.

Cryalot2 · 18/07/2019 10:18

It is cheeky and the mum is bringing her kid up wrongly.
Over the years we have seen so much .
One family always made a picnic and packed in tbeir large bags .( deat knows how they did not get food poisoning because it was hot and they took hams and cheeses and such .) But they were stopped by the resturane manager and as we left saw them in reception with the police .

Namechangesareus · 18/07/2019 10:23

Oh dear get a grip.
And as for the “the mother is bringing her son up wrong “, if this was all I had to worry about with my ds I would be delighted.
Seriously , I can’t believe someone would be bothered enough about this to start a mn thread about it

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/07/2019 10:23

I once stayed in a nice hotel where the bacon was particularly tasty. When all the waiting staff were out of the room a woman filled a plate with a small mountain of bacon, popped a napkin over it and dashed out. We sat and finished out breakfast speculating on what she could be doing with all that bacon. Husband in bed, snacks for the day, a room full of little dogs. Still joke about her CFery years later when we stay in a nice hotel.

bobbypinseverywhere · 18/07/2019 10:24

mum my makes herself pack lunches at every single hotel breakfast buffet Blush i used to get so embarrassed. Usually ham and cheese rolls!

They still do it, this isn't a stealth boast but they are multi multi millionaires who stay in top hotels - which for me makes it even worse!

fedup21 · 18/07/2019 10:25

Wouldn’t bother me at all.

probstimeforanewname · 18/07/2019 10:28

I do hmm at people taking lots of extra food (the odd bread roll, fine) so that they're getting a whole extra (light) meal from it

I don't get this. Why is it ok to eat loads at the breakfast table but not ok to take something with you to eat later? I've paid for it, I'll decide when I am going to eat it. I don't have a cooked breakfast so if I eg decide to take a cereal bar or apple (or both) with me for later, I will. It's costing the hotel exactly the same, whether I eat it at 8am or 2pm.

hsegfiugseskufh · 18/07/2019 10:29

But they were stopped by the resturane manager and as we left saw them in reception with the police

I really cant imagine the police giving a shit about some bread rolls that would probably be chucked anyway!

Angech74 · 18/07/2019 10:29

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Its just a bit of orange juice - and if they're in those big dispenser thingies then it wouldn't surprise me if it gets chucked after service if there is still any in there.

DoneLikeAKipper · 18/07/2019 10:30

I used to work breakfast in a hotel. There were always drinks left over, and it was always poured away. Much better to take it away and know it’s not going down the sink, no one where I worked would have given a shiny shit about this. If it’s out, it’s to be used (obviously as long as the customer has paid). Hell, I used to cook extra sausages and bacon for the customers on the assumption they would want more for later and the kitchen manager sometimes made sandwiches to go on request. It’s good customer service not to be persnickety about breakfast portions.

Don’t even get me started on how much the staff was munching away behind the scenes. I always made myself a sausage sandwich and two cups of coffee before my shift started!

One family always made a picnic and packed in tbeir large bags .( deat knows how they did not get food poisoning because it was hot and they took hams and cheeses and such .) But they were stopped by the resturane manager and as we left saw them in reception with the police

Really? I highly doubt the police were called over a few extra ham sandwiches Hmm.

WorraLiberty · 18/07/2019 10:33

The actual police?? Grin Grin

Blimey.
