DH and I have been staying in a hotel in a northern city for a few days. At breakfast DH saw a lad about 12-13 filling up his water bottle from the orange juice dispenser while his mother stood and watched. She was obviously a bit embarrassed but not enough to say anything!

I'm not really in favour of taking food for later from a buffet. The problem is that you can't really say where the line should be drawn - some people might be reasonable and take only the items that were 'missed' because they had a small breakfast, but others will eat a full breakfast and take items for lunch and snacks as well. Ultimately, prices will end up rising for everyone because some people are greedy and/or too stingy to pay for their own lunch.

I see no issue with this.

My husband works away a lot, and several times a month at the same spa hotel in Leeds (Thorpe Park for anyone that knows it)

He is well known there, and after his full English he takes a banana and a yogurt which he has as lunch.

After a while, thinking he was being really discreet about it, they started handing it to him on his way out, or keeping back a banana when they were low to make sure he left with one Shock

Just a quick update. Currently in Rome and the hotel breakfast room has a notice specifically asking people NOT to take food away but to enjoy their breakfast in the breakfast area only. So not all hotels are happy with people doing it.

I've traveled alone a lot and I always take some snacks or a small lunch for later! I see no problem. Often, I've paid for two breakfasts as that was the room price and apart from that I'm vegetarian so mainly eating the cheap things.
If you are a cf like me, my top tip is take the shower cap to breakfast and you can conveniently store a nice sandwich for later Wink
