Hi

I'm in the middle of a gallbladder attack. My 4th one in a week Sad

I took 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen at 11:45pm... I'm now in A LOT of pain and can't wait until 3.45am to take more.

AIBU to take another 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen even though it's only been 2 hours? WWYD?

Honestly having been through it if you are able to I would get to A&E for some morphine. 4 attacks in a week is a lot. I wouldn't mess about with paracetamol.

groundanchochillipowder · 18/07/2019 02:11

4th in a week? I'd go to A&E! That shit can give you pancreatitis which is deadly.

Singlebutmarried · 18/07/2019 02:11

111 they may send you to a and e but then you’ll have proper pain relief.

If you decide not to do that, stagger your meds. Paracetamol then 2 hrs later ibuprofen.

Beware of codine as that can aggravate the gall bladder.

Tramadol is ace if you can get it.

onemorerose · 18/07/2019 02:12

If you’re worried about it then don’t do it. It’s a lot in a small timescale. How are you feeling now?

MsMD · 18/07/2019 02:13

Not paracetamol, but you can take more ibuprofen now if you've only taken 400mg (the usual tablets are 200mg).

I would consider the emergency room if it's that bad though.

NotSoSorry · 18/07/2019 02:17

I'm in agony, gallbladder pain is worse than labour IMO. I have been to A&E in the past, they gave me morphine but made me feel like I was completely wasting their time. The doctor (male of course) asked me if I was sure I wasn't having menstrual cramps Angry.

I'll wait another half hour and see how I feel. It usually gets worse before it gets better Sad

I would get yourself down to a and e if it's that bad. When I had it I had no painkillers in the house and I basically sat in a hot bath all night but I would t recommend that approach.

isitwhatitis · 18/07/2019 02:21

Wouldn't not would of course !!

MaintainTheMolehill · 18/07/2019 02:29

I'm surprised at the doctors attitude. I went to A&E twice and was kept in both times on morphine and IV paracetamol. The GP had told me to go any time I had an attack to ensure I got surgery asap.

I had put up with it at home for months though and by the time they took it out I had stones stuck in my pancreas, was in hospital for 3 weeks.

Sorry don't want to scare you but it's better to get it seen to sooner rather than later plus I'm feeling sorry for you having to go through that pain.

heath48 · 18/07/2019 02:33

Call 111,sounds as if you should be seen in Aand E.

Hope you get so,etching sorted.

Poppins2016 · 18/07/2019 02:37

Don't take more paracetamol. It could cause irreversible damage.

I'd go to A&E as you need better pain relief (and removal of your gall bladder by the sounds of it).

BigSexyCrimeUnit · 18/07/2019 02:37

Seriously go to A & E and don’t put up with any crap implying it isn’t serious. Gallbladder pain is agony and you need morphine.

Raspberrytruffle · 18/07/2019 02:40

Any chance someone can pop to the chemist and get you some solphadeine plus max strength? I'd ask advice about you taking that amount of paracetamol OP but you clearly need something stronger

Raspberrytruffle · 18/07/2019 02:41

Only I had it and got put on morphine at hospital, its painful and I feel for you

Nat6999 · 18/07/2019 03:02

When I was having gall bladder attacks, paracetamol wouldn't touch the pain. The only things that helped other than being sick which always got rid of the pain was Dihydrocodeine, Buscopan & an anti sickness drug to keep them down. Ask your GP for a choose & book appointment at your local private hospital, you will get seen & treated much quicker, the NHS pays to keep their eating lists down.

PostNotInHaste · 18/07/2019 03:07

Agree paracetamol wouldn’t have touched mine. Had to be Codeine with Buscopan , Tens machine and heated wheat bag ti get me through. What’s the situation about removal?

MaxiPaddy · 18/07/2019 03:09

So sorry, op, I had my gallbladder out last year after an 4 day attack that left me hospitalized. Took them so long to get the fucker out there's still stones slushing around in my liver that pop out every few months to try to kill me say hello.

Be careful of the meds you take. I was swallowing oxycocet by the handful for the codeine, not realizing every pill contained tylenol and gave myself severe tylenol poisoning. It's even worse than the gallbladder, trust me. You can fudge the time by an hour or so, but not much more, or you're risking poisoning your liver on top of the gallbladder issues.

Hope you feel better.

MaxiPaddy · 18/07/2019 03:10

And by tylenol I mean paracetamol.

MissLadyM · 18/07/2019 03:20

Seriously go to a & e now! It happened to me a few years ago and I almost died because I should have gone much earlier.

YouWhoNeverArrived · 18/07/2019 03:23

YABVVVU. Even a very small paracetamol overdose can cause liver damage. If you're in that much pain, you need to go to A&E.

NotSoSorry · 18/07/2019 03:26

Thanks all. I've taken some more painkillers, a tad earlier than I was supposed to. If I go to A&E, I'll be waiting for hours in discomfort, by the time I'm seen, the pain will pass.

I've been having these attacks for well over a year. I've had much worse attacks. I will call my GP in the morning and get some stinger pain killers/discuss surgery.

You need something faster acting and soluble like panadol extra or solphadine, I had gallstones for 10yrs.

Try kneeling on all fours, and relaxing as much as possible, yeah I know it hurts, but it will pass
I also when it was salivating puking bad, had little pills that you could put under your tongue
Only from the gp though

Feel better soon lovely

WorkerBee83 · 18/07/2019 03:36

Hi I feel your pain and it is on par with a contraction! Defo get to a&e don’t suffer and defo get some stronger pain relief from your doctor for any future flair ups xxxx

Sandybval · 18/07/2019 03:40

Are you able to make a GP appointment soon for something stronger?

Birdie6 · 18/07/2019 04:13

I've been having these attacks for well over a year. I've had much worse attacks.

You certainly need surgery . Don't put it off - you'll be like a new woman once it's out.
