Too many paracetamol

Hi

I'm in the middle of a gallbladder attack. My 4th one in a week Sad

I took 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen at 11:45pm... I'm now in A LOT of pain and can't wait until 3.45am to take more.

AIBU to take another 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen even though it's only been 2 hours? WWYD?

Paracetamol overdose can cause liver damage. Don’t take more than 4g in 24hrs. Go to a&e if you need stronger pain relief. Hope you are feeling better soon (and hope you get your gall bladder removed if you keep having attacks!)

PostNotInHaste · 18/07/2019 06:59

I put it off for years and by the end was having daily attacks. The relief now it’s out is immense, the surgeon described my stone as huge. Definitely a good idea to get on the list.

Pikapikachooo · 18/07/2019 07:38

Get something far stronger 🙏

NoSauce · 18/07/2019 07:43

Are you even on the waiting list for surgery OP? You need it out. A year is a horrendously long time to be suffering.

How are you feeling now?

GoGoGoGoGo · 18/07/2019 07:46

Taking too much paracetamol is dangerous and can do irreversible damage to your liver. Please don’t do this. Please get proper advice.

FixTheBone · 18/07/2019 07:50

Definitely no additional paracetamol, even small overdoses in somebody who is fit and well can cause devastation, and you already have a condition that could be impairing your liver function, increasing the risk further....

I'm still in pain. The longest I've had an attack for. Doctors open at 8.30am. If I parked there now and walked in at 8.30 do you think they'd give me an appointment?

Parked outside now, I'm going to try and be seen.

You need to get to A&E, I had suffered for well over a year with attacks, never visited A&E even though the first time it happened I was convinced I was dying, I went to my GP and was referred for a scan and was diagnosed with the fuckers. I just learned to cope with them and they always eventually passed, I was put off accessing any care after one particularly vile nurse practitioner basically told me I just had to put up with it and there was no stronger pain medication she could give me, I left in tears. After that I just used to wait it out.

Anyway I started with a particularly bad attack that wouldn’t shift so after 24hrs I gave in and went to A&E, the doctor I saw there was absolutely lovely and I didn’t feel I was wasting their time, they gave me morphine while I waited on blood tests which cane back with very high liver results(I can’t remember numbers) so I was admitted for three days while they sorted me out, I had severe jaundice by the time I got to the ward caused by a stone being stuck and there was talk of needing all sorts of procedures to clear it. In the end it sorted itself out and I was booked for surgery the following week to let the inflammation subside. Having it out was the best thing ever, 5yrs on and no problems at all since and the recovery was fine for me. You really need to push for having it out as when the attack’s are coming as frequently as yours you can’t live a normal life as it impacts everything.

queenofmycastlex · 18/07/2019 08:19

I had my gallbladder out last month due to frequent attacks, they are horrific! Only thing that worked for me was codeine/cocodamol but the stronger doses your GP will prescribe.

My GP said if it was out of hours to go to a&e every time I had an attack so it was logged to show that I needed it removed (waiting list up here was 3 years for gallbladder removal!!). In the end I had to go private as my liver was being affected and I was getting seriously ill with it.

If you can, push for removal. I can’t believe how much better I feel day to day and obviously no more attacks.

Hope you get it sorted soon!

NeverSayFreelance · 18/07/2019 08:30

If you're sure A&E isn't an option, you need to get your GP to prescribe stronger pain meds. Paracetamol and ibuprofen really aren't enough for pain like that.

SuzieQQQ · 18/07/2019 09:03

Well get your gall bladder out! You don’t need it to stay alive.

hairygodmother · 18/07/2019 09:15

Definitely push for surgery. I ended up with pancreatitis which led to liver infection. I was in hospital for nearly two weeks and it was agonising (nil by mouth for a week). I had a second bout before they'd had a chance to get the gall bladder out so I hope you're successful in getting them to refer you for surgery. Good luck. The pain is hideous.

Wafflecopter · 18/07/2019 09:19

I had it for 6 months before I became jaundiced and they admitted me to the hospital through a GP referral. I was in for about a week and a half and they took my gallbladder out and collected the stones which had travelled about.

Once it was done and I was no longer in agony vomiting bile, I felt so much better, and no pain or heartburn since!

TrySinging · 18/07/2019 09:24

You poor thing. I developed it in early pregnancy, so couldn't have my gall bladder removed until I'd had my baby. I would have attacks most nights and have to go to A&E for morphine injections. The op is fine. Keyhole and quick recovery.

Cryalot2 · 18/07/2019 09:42

Hope you are feeling better. You probably need to see your gp. Good luck with that as here getting an appointment is a nightmare.
I have no experience of ibuprofen, but for years ( under advice of my gp) I take 8 paracetamol and the same of codine .
I am careful to space them and never would take them any oftener. I know i am on max dose .
I also know how it is to be ready for the next dose before the time. Its agony. It is not always easy getting something that agrees with you.

picallili90 · 18/07/2019 09:50

i feel your pain i got pregnant not long after finding out i had gallstones so i really struggled through the pain,
I took tramadol hopefully the doctor gives you some, sometimes my attacks lasted 2 days, i literally could not move position for 2 days, your right its so much worse than labour.
I had my gallbladder removed 3 months after giving birth definitely push for the operation.

NotSoSorry · 18/07/2019 10:15

GP was really lovely! She's given me some strong painkillers and has referred me to have the buggar removed although it will be a wait! So happy!
