To really want a full glass dining table?

I have bought some crystal Kartell ghost chairs and would love a clear glass table to match? Does anyone have one who can advise whether this is a good idea?

Round glass table had for a year now. Teenage ds's so easier. Really really pleased with it.

I had a round glass kitchen table from Next. It looked like an ice rink after a few years and I ended up covering it up with an oilcloth type cover. Don't think I'd have glass again, but maybe wasn't a wise choice for a kitchen in the first place.

My live-in landlord had one... until it smashed into a million pieces. That put me off for life (and I’m so glad I wasn’t the one to break it!).

I have a lovely large wood table that took residency in the garage ( well wrapped up ) in favour of a glass table.
Six months later the glass table ended up consigned to the garage and the wood one returned to it's rightful place.
The wood one, despite being around 10 years old still looks like new, the glass one looks like it's been retrieved from a skip.
Sick of cleaning it, every mark showed. Terrible.

Had one for years and loved it.

Nightmare to keep clean

catwithnohat · 15/07/2019 21:45

We bought a gorgeous Caligaris..... and spent the next umpteen years skooshing it daily with glass cleaner as it got grimy just by looking at it.

That said, I loved it, it looked no smart. I should have had the wit to use a tablecloth and not allowed the family, including the 4 footed ones to use it as a dumping ground.

Look after it and you'll be fine.

Yesicancancan · 15/07/2019 21:49

Cover it for everyday use and uncover for showing off. Do it, why wait?

I absolutely love having a glass table. We’ve had it since before we were married but it’s been great with young children too. Everything just wipes off, no stains or rings. They can paint on it and everything and I don’t worry. Quick wipe every night with glass cleaner and an e-cloth, job done.

escapade1234 · 15/07/2019 21:53

We’ve had ours 12 years and no scratches.

SuperSara · 15/07/2019 21:55

YANBU.

We have the same thing - Kartell crystal chairs and glass table.

Doesn't take that much keeping fingerprint free, to be honest.

HeadintheiClouds · 15/07/2019 21:58

Ghost chairs and a glass table sounds awful. It’ll all disappear into the background like a chameleon and you’ll be impaling yourself on it!

Howzaboutye · 15/07/2019 22:00

We had one for a while.
I found I did not like seeing feet while I ate! And knees! Yuk

DixieLandReject · 15/07/2019 22:03

Do you have a pic at all Super? I did wonder if the ‘clear’ theme was a bit much but I still really like it. I’ll try and get a pic of the kitchen it’s going in, it’s not totally finished yet though.

So the dining area where the table will be in currently where the ironing board is dumped and the kitchen is to the right of the drinks trolley.

So putting practicalities to one side, which would look letter in here, wood or glass?

I’ve got a small round glass table - we downsized and I wanted to use the dining room as a second lounge and dining room.
It’s not marked at all and was only about £300 ish with 4 chrome and white chairs.
We’ve now upsized lol and I think I’m going to keep it in a corner of the HUGE kitchen as we’ll have an island and stools for casual eating
Just use the pound shop glass wipes on it daily

Charliebong · 15/07/2019 22:42

I've had a glass dining table for years and love it...makes the room look bigger, the few scratches it has are barely noticebale and it's really not that difficult to give it a quick wipe over.

PawPawNoodle · 15/07/2019 22:53

OP (please dont take this as a dig) do you have a wonky wall? I cant tell if my eyes are deceiving me. Also what are the skirting board ankle spikes for?

If I'm honest I'm not sure if a glass table would suit your kitchen style!

BogglesGoggles · 15/07/2019 22:57

We have one. It’s horrible.

notso · 15/07/2019 22:57

 Grin HeadintheiClouds

I don't think it would go with your current kitchen at all.

PickAChew · 15/07/2019 23:00

Don't. They're horrid. One was left in this house, when we moved in, in the dead of winter. We used it instead of putting ours back together for a few weeks and it was horrible and cold and all of our food ended up freezing before we'd finished eating it! It was also always revoltingly dusty within 3 hours of a full clean.

KatewithaH · 15/07/2019 23:01

I thought the Ghost effect was really impressive because I can’t see the chairs Smile

piefacedClique · 15/07/2019 23:02

Christ no! I don’t want to look at my fat spreading thighs as I’m shoving a roast dinner down my face! 😭😭😭
