Sorry for "doing my head in" but that's what it feels like! I read this book in the 1980s.

It was unfortunately one of those tacky, teen romance novels with a misty looking photo on the cover. The girl on the cover had pink hair...it was about her...she wanted to be a fashion designer and lived in London. She gets a job in a small clothing factory run by a grumpy, old fashioned man.

Her parents want her to go back to school after summer but she wants to carry on in the job instead. The title might have been "Something Summer"

I think it had summer in it anyway.

I have googled and googled. All I can find is that Heartlines was a series of books like this by Pan which were published in the UK. All the majority of the other lines were USA and this was defo very English.

Any good? No pink hair but there is a pink cloud behind her hair?

MargotsFlounceyBlouse · 15/07/2019 10:02

Sweet Dreams were a series of teen romances I loved! Maybe look for their back catalogue although I think they were American.

CastleCrasher · 15/07/2019 10:05

It sounds like the summer of Jordi Perez, even down to the pink hair, although I think it's more recent than that?

User10fuckingmillion · 15/07/2019 10:09

I googled and Summer of Jordi Perez was published in 2018! Also set in Los Angeles

MRex · 15/07/2019 10:13

No idea, sorry. Why are you trying to remember an obscure teenage romance novel?

HennyPennyHorror · 15/07/2019 11:02

Neither of those but thanks for looking! It was definitely a 1980s book.

HennyPennyHorror · 15/07/2019 11:03

Mrex seriously?? The internet is FULL of posts on various forums with people looking for a book they read as a child or teen.

It's a common thing. People like to look back and perhaps read it again if they particularly enjoyed it.

I do this a lot. Recently found a book I'd loved as a child was selling for £100 plus on eBay. I was sorely tempted to buy it.

HennyPennyHorror · 15/07/2019 11:08

Ellie what was the book?

OP posts:
HennyPennyHorror · 15/07/2019 11:09

Margot pretty certain it was a UK publisher. Pan did a series called Heartlines but I've looked through theirs and not seen it yet. Will look again. There must be another UK publisher knocking out the trashy teen romances too!

Elliebellbell · 15/07/2019 11:14

It was called The Three Elizabeths by a very obscure Scottish author. I think it was written in the 50s.

I had a similar situation to you with a trashy novel called Weep Not My Wanton by Nan Maynard (never heard of her before or since). I was about 13 when I read it and it was just marvellous Smile

JacquesHammer · 15/07/2019 11:14

Was it a Point Romance?

Howlovely · 15/07/2019 11:23

Any luck on here?

whippetwoman · 15/07/2019 11:27

You should re-post this in the the What We're Reading section. People are always tracking down books there, they love it!

HennyPennyHorror · 15/07/2019 11:30

Jacques Point Romance was American....

HowLovely I came across that...again they all seem very American.

Your description made me think of the tender hearts series.
Midsummer madness
When friends fall out,
Heart beat
Loving and losing
This heart is not for hire
Tide of love
I think there may be more but these are the ones listed in the book I have.

nokidshere · 15/07/2019 11:36

I had the most beautiful children's poetry/stories book as a child and I'm always trying to find it. It had lovely things like Bedgelert, Greyfriars Bobby, and Wynken, Blynken & Nod. I would give anything to find it again so I totally get looking for books that hold memories.

Can't help with yours though OP sorry.

HennyPennyHorror · 15/07/2019 11:45

Drummergirl those books seem much more recent than 1980s.

Hi op
I think I read the same one in my teens, Goodbye Summer or Goodbye to Summer? I remember the fashion designing interest and the pink hair. The girl was called Sasha and had a summer romance with a boy of whom her mother disapproved and he had a motorbike!
Or it might have been Farewell Summer. Off to Google now.

HennyPennyHorror · 15/07/2019 11:45

Nokids what era was it?

OP posts:
MRex · 15/07/2019 11:47

@HennyPennyHorror - of course, I was just hoping for an interesting story.

HennyPennyHorror · 15/07/2019 11:48

Duchess you're the FIRST person to ever remember it! Yes...I do think it was Goodbye to summer or something and her boyfriend definitely had a motorbike!! Sasha rings a bell too!

OP posts:
nokidshere · 15/07/2019 11:52

@HennyPennyHorror I was given it for Christmas about 1973/4

Sparadrap · 15/07/2019 11:53

Is it this one?

DifferentDrum · 15/07/2019 11:54

Goodbye Summer definitely! I knew it as soon as you mentioned the pink hair. I loved it too and tried to find it on Amazon a few years ago but it's out of print.
