Sorry for "doing my head in" but that's what it feels like! I read this book in the 1980s.

It was unfortunately one of those tacky, teen romance novels with a misty looking photo on the cover. The girl on the cover had pink hair...it was about her...she wanted to be a fashion designer and lived in London. She gets a job in a small clothing factory run by a grumpy, old fashioned man.

Her parents want her to go back to school after summer but she wants to carry on in the job instead. The title might have been "Something Summer"

I think it had summer in it anyway.

I have googled and googled. All I can find is that Heartlines was a series of books like this by Pan which were published in the UK. All the majority of the other lines were USA and this was defo very English.

Was it "The Factory Girl" by Maggie Ford or perhaps "Factory Girl" by Stephanie Bond?

Alison Prince is the writer, that’s the one.
I rather loved reading it myself, Henny Penny but I only had it from the library. It is listed on Amazon but rather ear and no image given.

I love MN for this alone!

Brilliant detective work. I absolutely love books and have many that have stayed with me from my teen years.

I'm just so pleased to see the cover and know the title! That'll do me for now!

Rather dear, not ear!

There is a copy on Ebay for £2.45 at the moment 😀

WhatchaMaCalllit · 15/07/2019 12:11

Clearly not as @Sparadrap has found it!

Well done Sparadrap!

I see you’ve found it which is great!

But just to say Point Romance was American it wasn’t solely American. A number of titles were set/published in England. I’ve got a big collection!

Sounds like the kind of book I would have devoured as a teen!!

I've tried asking this before on Mumsnet with no joy but seeing as the book detectives on this thread are so amazing I'll give it one last shot.

Another 80's teen romance - definitely British. From the point of view of a teen boy who had a crush on a girl who I am pretty sure was called Julie. Julie fancied an older bloke called Steve. She ordered things of catalogues and when she cooked Steve fish and chips she went into the chip shop and asked them to cook the fish in breadcrumbs so he'd think it was homemade. I have no idea why I need to know what this book is called but I'll not rest easy until I do.

Ahh.... I love it with MN do this.
Well done.
So glad you found out what it is.
