I hate it! So pointless as well, if a poster is ranting about a washing machine I doubt anyone is then going to go oh yes a washing machine I need one of those and click the link to a random unrelated washing machine

YANBU. I used the word exercise in a thread and it linked to pregnancy exercises which were utterly irrelevant to the thread (and might have been upsetting to anyone trying to avoid reading about pregnancy).

I’ve seen other forums bring this sort of advertising in (albeit the links are external), and it really pisses people off - it looks cheap & nasty and can kill off smaller forums entirely.

One forum I used recently tried bringing it in but people complained so much they got rid of it pretty quickly. I agree it’s particularly bad on posts about sensitive subjects.

Yeah I was distinctly unimpressed when it happened to a random post of mine when I mentioned garden furniture.
