Is Mumsnet HQ doing random advertising links not just pop ups as Per usual it’s very irritating.

Sooverthemill · 13/07/2019 17:16

Yes washing machine and trousers for example. WTAF.

Shahlalala · 13/07/2019 17:19

It’s shit!
I initially thought a poster was linking sun cream and found it odd...

KeepFuckingOff · 13/07/2019 17:21

It’s so bloody annoying and really shitty for sensitive threads. Really shitty.

Digitalash · 13/07/2019 17:37

I hate it! So pointless as well, if a poster is ranting about a washing machine I doubt anyone is then going to go oh yes a washing machine I need one of those and click the link to a random unrelated washing machine

ElizaPancakes · 13/07/2019 17:45

Now I know what it is it doesn’t bother me tbh.

Amibeingdaft81 · 13/07/2019 17:48

MNHQ is just annoying. Full stop

ScreamingValenta · 13/07/2019 17:48

YANBU. I used the word exercise in a thread and it linked to pregnancy exercises which were utterly irrelevant to the thread (and might have been upsetting to anyone trying to avoid reading about pregnancy).

exWifebeginsat40 · 13/07/2019 17:58

does piles still work? piles .

AnathemaPulsifer · 13/07/2019 17:59

There was a thread about piles of laundry the other day and it linked to the other kind of piles.

AnathemaPulsifer · 13/07/2019 18:00

Ha, cross post.

IWouldBeSuperb · 13/07/2019 18:05

I understand them doing it for revenue etc. but I wish the links looked different to posters' links so we could choose whether to click or not!

It would feel less sneaky and those few people who have apparently forgotten they need a new washing machine get a handy reminder and link!

ChippyMinton · 13/07/2019 18:07

YANBU

OlderThanYouThink · 13/07/2019 18:15

They're doing it again? The last time it was a resounding no and resulted in people misspelling words to stop it

sideorderofchips · 13/07/2019 18:17

Leggings is another one

Ghanagirl · 13/07/2019 18:17

It’s just plain weird.

OP posts:
sideorderofchips · 13/07/2019 18:17

Oh they’ve stopped the leggings one

sideorderofchips · 13/07/2019 18:17

No wait. Only if you use a capital letter for the first letter

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 13/07/2019 18:19

It's very cheap and nasty all this touting for clicks.

@OlderThanYouThink I thought I had seen it before, but no one else seems to be complaining so I thought I had maybe seen it somewhere else.

Jemima232 · 13/07/2019 18:19

Have none of us got washing machines already?

Or piles, come to that.

BethanyGilbert · 13/07/2019 18:20

lunchboxes

AtrociousCircumstance · 13/07/2019 18:20

It’s intrusive bullshit. It’s using those of us who provide the content for this site and it breaks trust.

Stop doing it MN Angry

BethanyGilbert · 13/07/2019 18:21

lunchbox singular maybe?

MindyStClair · 13/07/2019 18:21

I’ve seen other forums bring this sort of advertising in (albeit the links are external), and it really pisses people off - it looks cheap & nasty and can kill off smaller forums entirely.

One forum I used recently tried bringing it in but people complained so much they got rid of it pretty quickly. I agree it’s particularly bad on posts about sensitive subjects.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 13/07/2019 18:23

Yeah I was distinctly unimpressed when it happened to a random post of mine when I mentioned garden furniture.

Tacky and gross.

TheSpottedZebra · 13/07/2019 18:23

So if I capitalise Washing Machine will it not work?
