"OK, I'll bite" ?

It's one of those mysterious MN phrases that no one would use in real life. It sounds so pompous. The question wasnt aimed directly at you, Sharon!

Just eff off with your biting.

I would pronounce it "nace" OP

BinkyBaa · 12/07/2019 22:45

I dont think it's a MN phrase. Surely it's just an americanism?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 12/07/2019 22:46

Of course 39 is middle aged!!!

ShatteredBrianne · 12/07/2019 22:47

Nace - it comes out in northern Irish accent whenever my brain sees it. I'm not even Irish.

Phrases that make me unreasonably angry Grin

HTH - no you're not you sarcastic bint
Slow hand clap - cringeville monitor is broken Angry
Just saying - well obviously - cringeville monitor cranks back up to life at the cringeness of it.

Tenpenny · 12/07/2019 23:03

Due to this thread I am having to come to terms with the realisation that I am now middle-aged 😮

Dont know if its used on here much but I despise the term "little legs" when referring to small children.

And, I have actually used the mn phrase "did you mean to be so rude?“ in real life Grin it was brilliant, the rude person looked suitably ashamed

ShatteredBrianne · 12/07/2019 23:05

Tenpenny - brilliant! Was there a response? Or just a shocked face?

The horrible patronising assertion that people are "a bit dim" or "a bit thick", or "weird"/"bonkers"/ "a bit odd" just for being an outlier on Gaussian curve of Mumsnet norms.

cherriesandoranges · 13/07/2019 02:42

@Moraxella or "a bit goady" whatever than means

Applejack5 · 13/07/2019 07:52

I really hate the phrase "wow, just wow." Nobody ever says that.

saraclara · 13/07/2019 08:00

you've just made me realise that a certain middle aged man I know must be a mumsnetter! He totes used the word cockwomble in a FB post

Cockwomble isn't specific to, and doesn't originate from, MN. Is widespread.

usersouthcoast · 13/07/2019 08:04

I absolutely hate when people say they work in a "niche" job. Like us mere mortals who work in really common jobs just really wouldn't understand so it's best they don't go into it.
Never in my 34years have I met someone who says "my job is in quite a niche area"

Ellapaella · 13/07/2019 08:11

'This with bells on'

Makes me cringe every time I read it.

PerpendicularVincent · 13/07/2019 08:13

OP: I've just seen my neighbour rob the local jewellers with a sawn off shotgun. He's now sitting in the garden cackling and wearing all the jewellery he stole. AIBU to call the police?

Pointless, annoying response: keep your beak out OP

shieldmaidenofrohan · 13/07/2019 08:16

“Are you on glue, OP ? “

Very patronising
