People eating using my fork

A couple of times when I’ve been in a restaurant or at work, people have asked if they can have some of my food if I’ve finished eating and then proceed to use my (eaten from) cutlery to spear it and eat. I also had a friend ask if she could have my used fork because she forget to get one from the baskets of cutlery. This has happened a couple of times now so although I thought it was a one-off I’m wondering if I’m overreacting because I think this is VILE unless it’s your partner or children. Would you use someone else’s cutlery after them?!

I wouldn't but I've seen plenty that do. I used to be friends with a family that would all share a lollipop and it made me queasy lol

Unshriven · 12/07/2019 11:07

Well it's really no different to the partner/children thing.

Unless you have some kind of lethal saliva, they'll probably be OK.

22Giraffes · 12/07/2019 11:14

Yanbu at all! I would use my hands before using someone else's fork and would not want someone using mine!

Barbie222 · 12/07/2019 11:16

If you've finished it's a bit gross for them, but a waste of emotional energy for you to get this upset! What's it to you if you're not going to put it in your mouth again?

Myheartbelongsto · 12/07/2019 11:20

grim

Nousernameforme · 12/07/2019 11:21

Ok it won't kill you but it is completely disgusting.

araiwa · 12/07/2019 11:22

Up to them

FuriousVexation · 12/07/2019 11:28

"I wouldn't recommend using my fork, I have a gum infection" should sort things nicely...

Miljah · 12/07/2019 11:28

My ILs were a bit like this.

It reached a point where I would deliberately refuse a dessert at a restaurant meal so as to avoid this revolting thing they did where they all shared the desserts between them, taking a spoonful and passing them around.

No, BIL, I don't want to eat anything that a spoon from your halitosised mouth has touched, thanks.

maras2 · 12/07/2019 11:34

I've never had people helping themselves to my food.
That's so rude and minging.
Mind you I do have a resting bitch face and a death stare perfected over the last 66 years Smile

HennyPennyHorror · 12/07/2019 11:35

I'm with you OP. I've seen Gordon Ramsay and other chefs do it too...boak.

My DH's Aunt always wants to make the potato salad at MIL's house and I've seen her LICKING THE BASTARD SPOON as she stirs in the mayo!

Can't ever eat it can I??

AuntyMarysBigRedPants · 12/07/2019 11:39

YANBU I would be dry heaving in their face

LucyAutumn · 12/07/2019 12:36

YANBU. I also hate it when people help themselves to my drink as well Envy (not envy)

Strunderthuck · 12/07/2019 12:41

So I guess you guys have never kissed anyone - your OH or a random on a night out? Because it basically amounts to the same thing.

Preggosaurus9 · 12/07/2019 12:47

What?! That's weird. Restaurants have plenty of cutlery Hmm just go ask for another one...

PicsInRed · 12/07/2019 12:50

Nooooooooo.
Burn it.
🔥🔥🔥

Alarae · 12/07/2019 13:01

Why can't they use their own fork?! Confused

So, we mostly agree that they are manky buggers. Thought so. I’ll mention the gum disease next time.

Do your children and partner not have germs?

BykerBykerOoh · 12/07/2019 13:51

I’d share a fork with anyone except your manky husband and kids.

TanyaChix · 13/07/2019 22:00

Trendy & Byker. TBH, picking the food off someone's plate using their cutlery is less about germs and more about table manners. My husband and children don’t need to ask as I’d willingly share anything with them. I don’t usually open a yoghurt at work and ask Dave in accounts if he’d like to lick my spoon. Do you?

My husbands family all eat off each others plate. It makes me feel so sick. If they ask if they can eat my left over food I just say no, I don't see why i should feel sick because of their weird habits.

PawPawNoodle · 13/07/2019 22:17

It doesn't really bother me, I can't get worked up over it. I'll share cutlery or a drink with anyone I know and trust not to have a dirty gob, I'm yet to die from it.

Chickychoccyegg · 13/07/2019 22:27

i dont get why you're bothered though if your not planning to use it again?
