Nurse commenting on house

My neighbour had a community nurse around today while I was there. When the nurse walked in she commented on my neighbours photo on the wall of a dog and asked who the dog is/was. Neighbour told her. She then used the bathroom and came out saying it was a beautiful bathroom!! Neighbour thanked her. As she was leaving she commented on a painting on the wall and asked her who had painted it.

AIBU to think healthcare professions shouldn’t comment on people’s houses? What does she say if she walks into a shithole?

Op......this is called breaking the ice. I do home visits. I have seconds to make a relationship with a patient. I may hate the curtains, paintings, picture of dog but will say something nice about them to get my patient interest and to relax them before i start my medical procedure. Yanvvvvu if you really think the nurse is interestdd in dog pictures, bathroom etc

I'm a nurse. I also have aspergers and walk on eggshells around the public in case I accidentally offend someone. People are definitely getting more irritable and will complain about any perceived slight now. I'm glad to be leaving.

There'll be no professionals willing to serve the public.
It is really annoying that some folk who think those employed by the government, Teachers, Nurses Carer ETC are fair game to be abused and they expect perfection because it is free to them.
Some people don't know how lucky they are.

Ridiculous

justilou1 · 13/07/2019 12:28

Good grief! She was making conversation and trying to make her patient feel comfortable about having a stranger in her home.

UndertheCedartree · 13/07/2019 12:34

She was trying to engage with her patient and form a therapeutic relationship.

Obviously if the place was a shit hole she would find other things to talk about.

I've had delivery drivers comment on my house (positively) and I was thrilled because I put a lot of work into it and it was a compliment. If the nurse had said something negative you'd have a point, but it's a sad world if we can't say nice things to each other any more because it's "not professional" 🙄

Proably just making conversation. I guess if the house was filthy the nurse would have to make conversation on something else 😃

When my DD was having physio home visits. The lady used to comment on my nice home, gave me a little buzz as sometimes I feel like I’m winning a losing battle with housework but I am pretty house proud. She also used the toilet and said that she wouldn’t use the toilet in a lot of homes she visits so it have a little confidence boost 😃

OMG I do home visits and do this also. Only compliments and as a conversation warmer.

OP lobs in hand grenade, doesn't come back.

MrMakersFartyParty · 13/07/2019 13:09

As a nurse I talk about loads of things, our kids, families, jobs etc. I find this so depressing and I'm really starting to change and resent the public because of people like the OP

sqeakywheel · 13/07/2019 13:11

Jealous much?Envy

Tallgreenbottle · 13/07/2019 13:19

Either this is the strangest reverse ever or OP needs a strong vodka (or has had several).
