Bought a teapot on ebay, arrived with an old break very obvious so asked to return. After several abusive emails this was the last one I received after seller had to refund me.

You know what?
Keep the junk as you describe it. I don’t want it back. In my views it’s been contaminated with Englishness. I’m only selling things because I’m leaving this hate filled country, anyway.
My experience with you was another interesting example why this stupid country should not be part of a civilised community of countries. Never do business with the English. Too right, I’m afraid to say.
Enjoy a nice English tea time on me.
I can’t wait to go back to my home country.

LOL !!

HeronLanyon · 12/07/2019 01:40

It is not racist. Crazy rant. Think not just the teapot which is cracked there.

If English isn't a race, is American, African, Chinese, Pakistani, Russian, Japanese? If someone said,"I hate doing business with those cheap Chinese people" Would that be racist?

Eek, just going by what you posted but not sure where to start!
White English, American. Not discriminated against.
Chinese, etc, cheap labour why would hate doing business? You'd like it, surely?! (Not saying this is my view, just can see why people do!)

TheRedBarrows · 12/07/2019 04:11

“I am Welsh and suffer stereotypical abuse all the time, so its not ok”

Stereotypical abuse is not OK. There is plenty of offensive stereotyping of the Welsh and Wales and I am surprised some people have dismissed it as trivial.

OkPedro · 12/07/2019 04:20

You’re not English though op you’re welsh 🤔
I’m Irish and it would be an insult to be called English 🤣🤣

AndBreatheJustBreathe · 12/07/2019 08:41

Close laptop. Go to home bargains. Pick up unused teapot for circa £2.99

popehilarious · 12/07/2019 08:57

@IncandescentShadow In reply to my posting "English isn't a race", you posted "For the love of god, the Equality Act doesn't distinguish between race and nationality." with two definitions of 'race'.

My post "So English is a race?" was questioning whether or not you were stating 'English is a race'. I was seeking clarification as it wasn't clear what part of "English isn't a race" you disagreed with.

I pointed out a distinction in the two definitions - an "and" instead of an "or" may seem minor but legally can mean a world of difference. You have now stated that the reason for this is because the definitions are from two different places - obviously I understand this but that doesn't address how they might be used differently which was the point I found interesting.

You ask why people don't look it up - I did not because you said you had copied them in your post. It is possible you made a typo when copying, if so then that's why I don't understand the specific phrase you used.

newmomof1 · 12/07/2019 09:10

It's not racist at all.
Just report the abuse to eBay and move on with your life 🙄

Helendee · 12/07/2019 09:25

OkPedro

Why would you be insulted by being called English?
Personal reasons or just unpleasant?

Helendee · 12/07/2019 09:27

Can someone explain to me why it’s socially acceptable to mock the English?

newmomof1 · 12/07/2019 09:29

@Helendee because we're dickheads.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/07/2019 09:35

Helendee
It think it might be because of their lack of a sense of humour!

Helendee · 12/07/2019 09:38

Newoneof1

Speak for yourself! 😄

Helendee · 12/07/2019 09:39

I think the English sense of humour is great, very self-deprecating.

Sugarplumfairyfartface · 12/07/2019 09:40

Might not be racist but replace "the English" with "Muslim" "Jewish" "black" "Asian" and it's basically saying the same thing so why not be offended you may as well as there would be uproar if those words were used so whilst it is mildly amusing and the person is a complete idiot personally I would post it and report it to eBay or whoever it is as could be an English hating IRA terrorist for all you know just saying

Schoolquery1 · 12/07/2019 09:48

It’s the gammon reference that is highly insulting, and yes it is 100% racially offensive! If that was a reference to any other colour, they’d have the police knocking by now.
And English may not be a race per se. But how do you think a Nigerian or a Frenchman would perceive the same rant directed at them? Forget Englishness...this is British to a tee. Tolerance is a one way street.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/07/2019 09:50

Helendee
I am Welsh but I live in England and my DC are English. The English are just a likely to be making the jokes about other parts of the British Isles. The English ruling classes did not treat the Welsh, Scottish and Irish brilliantly in the past so the fact that negativity has largely been relegated to sporting banter is a good thing.

Helendee · 12/07/2019 10:13

I’m not disputing the behaviours of any one nation just wondering why English baiting seems to be more acceptable.
Personally I have a foot in each camp being a quarter each Welsh, English, Scots and Irish.

Buster72 · 12/07/2019 10:16

Racism includes reference to nationality, so it could be racist.
It could also fall under the scope of malicious communications and may end up in court.

So both a crime and a racially aggravated one at that.

WellThisIsShit · 12/07/2019 10:27

What a pleasant seller! Glad you’ve blocked now Smile

Lifecraft · 12/07/2019 10:40

I think the English sense of humour is great, very self-deprecating.

I'm English but like most of us, I'm too stupid to know what self deprecating means.

Lifecraft · 12/07/2019 10:45

When it comes to race, people confuse genetics with the legal term.

So, for example, genetically, Jews aren't a race. How can they be, You get black Jews from East Africa, and white, blonde Jews from Sweden. There's probably Japanese Jews too. But of course, being anti Semitic is definitely racist. Because the law incudes under racism, religion and nationality.

Zippyx · 12/07/2019 10:52

I would say there is racist intent there, although not stated politically correctly (English isn't a race).

YANBU.

BertrandRussell · 12/07/2019 11:04

“English baiting seems to be more acceptable.”

Historically. English baiting was “punching up”.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 12/07/2019 11:17

This is actually quite a funny response op 🤣
