Bought a teapot on ebay, arrived with an old break very obvious so asked to return. After several abusive emails this was the last one I received after seller had to refund me.

You know what?
Keep the junk as you describe it. I don’t want it back. In my views it’s been contaminated with Englishness. I’m only selling things because I’m leaving this hate filled country, anyway.
My experience with you was another interesting example why this stupid country should not be part of a civilised community of countries. Never do business with the English. Too right, I’m afraid to say.
Enjoy a nice English tea time on me.
I can’t wait to go back to my home country.

Xenophobic more than racist. I’m xenophobic towards many English people too even though I am English. Embarrassing nation at times.

Anyway I think I’d have just laughed at that message.

Bottletopsx · 11/07/2019 12:34

I did not want to get into the black or white argument. I had so many abusive messages I just copied and pasted the last one. Anyway I have had my money back and she can rant on for as long as she likes as she is now blocked.

If I sent this with English replaced with some other country I would be hauled into court!

No you wouldn’t.

whirlwinds · 11/07/2019 12:36

Not racism, it's Brexitism at it's best though. Many foreigners that live and work here feel it, not really xenophobic but a consequence of how formerly pleasant and welcoming Brits have turned vile against anyone with a EU passport. Goes both ways, portions of the UK want to get rid of all the "nasty" European foreigners and they in return learn to dislike and hate the British for a variety of reasons purely down to how people have changed in their behaviour towards them all due to this EU Referendum.

MissBootyBass · 11/07/2019 12:37

What exactly is the 'black or white argument'? Can't say I've heard of it.

BertrandRussell · 11/07/2019 12:38

You did my want to get into the black and white argument -but you started a thread about racism. Riiiiiiiight.......

SylviaAndSidney · 11/07/2019 12:40

The word racist is right there in your title, yet you didn't want to get into the black and white argument?
Just using the xenophobic anti-English point, even though you're Welsh?

Sure.

RosesAndRaindrops · 11/07/2019 12:41

I'd burst out laughing if I got that!
Sounds erm..... barking

Lifecraft · 11/07/2019 12:45

I did not want to get into the black or white argument

That could be tricky if discussing racism.

Anyway, last night's Panorama, alleged anti Semitism in the Labour party, what did we think? But please, I don't want to get into the Jewish/ anti Jewish argument.

Poloshot · 11/07/2019 12:48

Haha superb. Send her lol back and a pic of you using it

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 11/07/2019 12:53

"I did not want to get into the black or white argument."

On a thread about racism.

Quality.

Whatafustercluck · 11/07/2019 13:01

Why refer to you as gammon? Are you sure you didn't say anything a bit.... Brexity?

blackteasplease · 11/07/2019 13:03

Not OK but ant means - rude and unhinged - but racist is the wrong word. Xenophobic maybe or nationalist or maybe just anti English. None of these things are ok but I think it's important to use the right word.

CatG85 · 11/07/2019 13:06

Just someone having a rant after their attempt to sell a broken object without being honest about it was ruined.

You have the refund and a nice broken teapot, I'd just reply with thank you and a smiley face and not bite.

MindyStClair · 11/07/2019 13:08

I did not describe anything as junk as the seller says, total lie. I was polite even though in one of her messages she said I was the scum of the earth, should not be allowed to walk the earth, white trash, mental ct etc etc

If they said all that about a teapot they are clearly not the full shilling, why would you pay them any mind at all?! And saying that you shouldn’t be allowed to walk the earth is far worse than their comments about the English, so it’s weird to focus on that aspect.

Report, block, move on.

RosesAndRaindrops · 11/07/2019 13:11

Not the full shilling
Exactly, or as we used to say "sandwich short of a picnic" Grin
Not really racist though.

Lifeover · 11/07/2019 13:14

In no way shape or form is this ok. At least they are leaving the country

MindyStClaire · 11/07/2019 13:14

Equality Act definition of racism:

In the Equality Act, race can mean your colour, or your nationality (including your citizenship). It can also mean your ethnic or national origins, which may not be the same as your current nationality. For example, you may have Chinese national origins and be living in Britain with a British passport.

Race also covers ethnic and racial groups. This means a group of people who all share the same protected characteristic of ethnicity or race.

So yes, it's racist. Yes, there are many more vile examples of racism out there, but those messages are racist.

Havingarethink · 11/07/2019 14:02

The best person to ask if this is racist, would be a British /English person who is a also a POC. I can't be sure but I'm pretty certain they would tell you that they would rather be called an English prick rather than a insert a colour prick.

Havingarethink · 11/07/2019 14:05

It's insulting to be sure but I wouldn't call it racist.

JassyRadlett · 11/07/2019 14:10

If I sent this with English replaced with some other country I would be hauled into court!

You haven’t spent much time on any MN threads about Americans or Australians, have you OP?

DoneLikeAKipper · 11/07/2019 14:14

In my experience (which I accept may not count for much), people rarely react to others in life (or on the internet) the way the seller above has done without any sort of provocation what-so-ever. People generally don’t go from zero to crazy over nothing, and I would be very interested to see how this conversation went on both sides from the start. Of course, the seller could just be one of these rare people who likes throwing out abuse over nothing, but we’ll never really know.

TibetanCherryTree · 11/07/2019 14:14

I'd reply ""See ya. Don't let the departure doors hit your arse on the way out".

Heratnumber7 · 11/07/2019 14:18

Xenophobic, maybe. Racist, no. Funny, yes.

LadyRannaldini · 11/07/2019 14:19

Surely you realise that as a white English person the race card is of no use to you. Unless it's genuine racism, I treat it as a contemptuous joke.
