To wonder how many people don't do their spouse's laundry?

I see this on threads quite regularly: OP says they do cleaning/laundry etc, next posters say "why do you do [his] laundry?"

Do many households have separate laundry baskets- one per person? Or do people mean they take turns to do communal loads? How many of you only do your own laundry?

I've only ever seen this on MN, although in fairness I've not made a habit of asking friends and acquaintances how they manage the load (excuse the pun) in their households...

AIBU to ask what happens in your homes?

We have a communal wash basket, so it would be more work to sort out my own clothes to wash them. We both stick a load on when we have the time, and clothes are put away by whoever is around when they are dry.

I do all of the laundry for everyone in the house. Dh has never done it.

I rarely do BF laundry (we live together) he works away mon-fri and comes home with a bag of stuff, it's all blue and grey so goes in one wash load. He doesn't often do my laundry as I do it in the week when he isn't there. Plus he is a chuck it all in kinda guy and my clothes contain wools and silks so need extra care.
He will put a load on if I specifically ask though. We both do sheets and towels when needed though

DH does all the washing

I would do dh's laundry if it ever made it to the laundry basket.

It doesn't - it gathers on the en suite floor so he does it himself.

I don't do my dh's laundry. There have been times when he has done it and it's in the washing machine, and I needed it out because it was in my way, so I've hung it up to dry for him (to be fair, that doesn't happen very often). But we have never regularly done each others washing. We have separate washing baskets. We do our own when we need it. If he doesn't do his, he just wears old clothes until he gets around to it. We both do the dc's washing, depending on who happens to be home on the day it needs doing.

I just stick all the washing into together, if it was done separately dh wouldn't have any clean clothes to wear

Benes · 09/07/2019 21:44

Why Mrs? surely he would just have to do his own washing instead?
