To ask advice on this foot wound? (Pic included)

So last Friday (10 days ago) I fell off a children's roundabout at work and got a few cuts.

This one on my foot was cleaned straight away and I've been cleaning it with TCP but it's getting worse, my whole foot feels bruised and like the skin is being stretched tight and hot to touch too. My lower leg aches.

I plan on seeing pharmacist tomorrow but noticed there's some red lines coming from the wound and when touched it's very tender, I've a few chronic health problems, not too worried as temp is 37.4 it's just so painful.

Anyone got any tips? Don't want to consult dr google and can't sleep with the pain. Feeling such a wuss.

Jesus I can't believe they sent you home.. you can visibly see how nasty it is. Has it gotten any better this morning?

MollyHuaCha · 09/07/2019 11:00

Keep taking photos on your phone so you have evidence of how far the infection has spread.

This will help reassure you it's getting better, or if it's not, will give you something to share with medical team.

SunniDay · 09/07/2019 11:14

Hi OP,

I hope you are feeling a bit better.

It sounds like when you see a medic you are not getting your message across. Perhaps this is because you feel unwell or perhaps you are not a very forcefull person.

I wonder if it would be worth writing a very short note with bullet points that you INSIST on going through with them. E.g.

I am on immunosuppressants.

I have previously had sepsis

I have been prescribed an anti-biotic where the patient information leaflet says not to be taken with anti-coagulants (which I am on.)

I am concerned due to red line tracking and excessive amounts of pain. I am also concerned my drugs could mask the high temperature of infection. Or sepsis could keep my temperature low.

Put everything you think relevant in short clear points then insist on going through the points with the medic. Ask to keep your note (or keep yourself a second copy anyway) to show to a further medic if you are referred.

Good luck.

frogsoup · 09/07/2019 11:51

That is good advice from Sunniday. I remember being repeatedly fobbed off by nurses and midwives in my first pregnancy and in retrospect I was extremely passive. After extensive interaction with the medical profession after my son was born that is no longer the case!

Before every medical appointment I have an idea in my head about what I think probably needs to happen - antibiotics or referral or whatever. If the appointment doesn't match the script in my head there needs to be good reason why. It's not that I won't take medical advice, obviously I do, but if I have serious concerns I won't let go until I've had them properly addressed. I had an adult triage nurse put my son at the bottom of the a&e queue because his fingers were still pink, despite him drifting in and out of consciousness and, it turns out, having sats in the low 80s. We didn't stay long at the bottom of the queue.

buttertoasty · 09/07/2019 12:52

Op if it's no better today then call an ambulance. Then the triage nurse can't fob you off as paramedics will examine it instead. Botulism is a possibility given you got the cut in an outside play area.

Hope you got some sleep and it's feeling a bit better.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 09/07/2019 12:58

At MRI said it looked nasty, I'm now vomiting and have diahorrea. Not sure if it's the antibiotics or what but if this carries on I'm going back, I feel absolutely horrendous. I've no energy at all.
I'm going to stay at my mothers tonight who's also rural and doesn't drive (and I also don't get on with) but I don't want to be alone, weird I know.
Thank you all still.
Can't remember who mentioned the hospital but yes that's the one and really the reputation for it is awful.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 09/07/2019 13:01

So you've taken a nose dive health wise, showing signs of sepsis and you're going to stay with your mum rurally with i ability to get to hospital?

You need to grow some lady balls, pull your big girl pants up, take a bit responsibility if your health and get yourself to hospital or the GP at the very least.

Sorry, but anything other than that is plain stupid.

Laiste · 09/07/2019 13:06

Gosh i thought i'd come back to this thread and see the OP was tucked upon IV overnight in hospital Shock:(

....... is there anyone reading this in Pembrokeshire who can accompany OP and help get her voice heard at the hospital!? She's feeling weak it's hard to stand up for yourself when you're not well. This is awful!

My mother nearly died from sepsis. There's been so much on the news lately about how it needs to be taken into consideration during triage now. But OP is getting fobbed off :(

HairyFloppins · 09/07/2019 13:06

Call an ambulance now OP. Is the wound still tracking?

BananaRama99 · 09/07/2019 13:08

I would honestly call an ambulance now, vomiting and diarrhoea are classic signs of sepsis. Especially with how unwell you are feeling and the lack of energy

frogsoup · 09/07/2019 13:08
Hmm
Laiste · 09/07/2019 13:09

Go back to hospital OP, there'll be different staff on shift now.

Ring an ambulance and you can take your time and explain to them. They'll see how ill you are and have more time for you simply because of the logistics of what they have to do.

Allfednonedead · 09/07/2019 13:10

Weighing in to second calls for calling an ambulance. Print out SunniDay’s very helpful post and don’t let them send you home again until a doctor has read it and actually looked at your foot for more than five seconds.

BlueSkiesLies · 09/07/2019 13:13

You’re clearly unwell but going to your mums rather than A&E. Come on. Sort yourself out and get back to hospital NOW sand do as sunnidays suggests and has a list of points you need to cover.

frogsoup · 09/07/2019 13:13

That was a ' wtf are you playing at' face btw. Monumental stupidity to ignore the advice here.

whatswrongwithmyarm · 09/07/2019 13:16

Oh god op, please call an ambulance

EatYourTeaNow · 09/07/2019 13:19

If you're vomiting and have diarrhoea then chances are the antibiotics won't be absorbed so the infection will only get worse.
Please go to A+E.

lalafafa · 09/07/2019 13:22

Hope you’re ok op xx

MummytoCSJH · 09/07/2019 13:23

I agree you need to go back but theres no need to call the OP stupid. I had headaches for months before my tumour was diagnosed, went to a&e nights on end for them just to say you'll be fine and it's just a normal headache as they'd missed it on the scans. Its debilitating to say the least especially when you're already weak and don't have anyone to support you with your young children :(

DrPeppersPhD · 09/07/2019 13:24

@HCantThinkOfAUsername
Ambulance. Now.
You're deteriorating, you know this is sepsis, diarrhoea and vomiting is a sign of a severe infection, and I'd be surprised if it hasn't spread, if you don't get this sorted how long do you seriously think you have?

MrsMozartMkII · 09/07/2019 13:24

Please! For the love of all things, call an ambulance out.

You're really not well and getting worse.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 09/07/2019 13:26

Yes you're right it's just horrible being made to feel such a hypochondriac I've been twice now and nothing's been done apart from make me feel a massive time waster there.
I will do something

OP posts:
ohtheholidays · 09/07/2019 13:31

Go back to the hospital and refuse to leave, tell them they have to see you and treat you properly and that your making a formal complaint.

Tell them that God forbid but if you lose your life because of the infection and they're lack of fucking common sense then your DC would be alone!

AbsentmindedWoman · 09/07/2019 13:32

Are there any patient advocate groups in Wales who you can call or someone can onyour behalf? You or someone else needs to insist on being treated.

I can't believe what I'm seeing, you clearly need medical attention and are rapidly going downhill. This is insane.

You are not brings hypochondriac. Please put that out of your head.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 09/07/2019 13:32

Are you at Withybush OP? They do not have the best reputation, I'm afraid. You are not being a hypochondriac or time waster, at all.
