Respiration?

KTara · 05/07/2019 22:36

Reparations?

HoneysuckIejasmine · 05/07/2019 22:38

You what?

swimmering · 05/07/2019 22:40

reparations

Angrybird123 · 05/07/2019 22:40

It's a nice idea but wildly impractical and would destabilise the American economy in a way that no one needs now. There dies come a point where we have to draw a line under historical injustice and move past it.

Singleandproud · 05/07/2019 22:40

Slavery was around long before America got its independence so surely it is Britains fault more so than the Democrats. Britain profited hugely from the slave trade as did other major players at the time. I’m not saying that compensation shouldn’t be paid but I’m not sure how you can blame the Democrats when it started long before them.

Soontobe60 · 05/07/2019 22:41

The problem with that is that it isn't just America that profitted from slavery. Many countries world wide both profitted and suffered from exploitation through the slave trade. How would you decide who should pay, and to whom?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/07/2019 22:42

How far back should we go - and do we come up to present day slavery?

Zoobluebabypink · 05/07/2019 22:42

If historical wrongdoings all resulted in reparations centuries later, all countries would have enormous amounts to pay for one reason or another

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 05/07/2019 22:43

Caused slavery?

You know slavery predates the existence of America, right?

AntsMarching · 05/07/2019 22:45

You are wrong to try to simplify such a complex issue down to blaming it on one party. That is patently feeding into the Trump position.

dreichuplands · 05/07/2019 22:45

I think rather than paying reparations the US should focus on offering a high quality of education to all regardless of the area lived in , affordable healthcare and good representation for all in the legal justice system.
Supporting African Americans still living with the impact of centuries of discrimination seems a more useful way forward.

themmatricc · 05/07/2019 22:45

obviously being deliberately provocative but historically you are right democrats were for slavery republican party was set up against it.

Barbie222 · 05/07/2019 22:46

Have another, OP! It's Friday!

GoFiguire · 05/07/2019 22:47

You want the Americans to pay for the right to breathe?

RJnomore1 · 05/07/2019 22:49

I thought this was to do with the cost of intensive care treatment in the us.

Wrong again

nolongersurprised · 05/07/2019 22:53

You want the Americans to pay for the right to breathe?

Only the democrats, apparently.

I wonder how it would work? Do fast or rapid breathers need to pay more? Does an 80kg man climbing a mountain need to pay more than a small woman who will spend a rainy day reading on the couch?

blackteasplease · 05/07/2019 22:57

Wot?

babysharkah · 05/07/2019 23:00

Are you talking about repatriation? I'm confused otherwise

BoneyBackJefferson · 05/07/2019 23:14

As has been said

How far back do you want to go?
Are you prepared to get those that sold the slaves to the British to pay?
Or those that sold slaves to the Egyptians?
Maybe even the Greeks or the Italians?

Patroclus · 05/07/2019 23:17

Where are all these people coming from lately?

Patroclus · 05/07/2019 23:17

This is just pure shit stirring isnt it.

BMW6 · 05/07/2019 23:22

I imagine there were far more people enslaved during the Roman Empire (including British).
Can we sue Rome for reparation?

BMW6 · 05/07/2019 23:23

And what about the Hebrew slaves in Egypt?

dreichuplands · 05/07/2019 23:24

To be fair to the OP I was listening to a story about a mum who had unknowingly run up a bill of many thousands use gas and air while giving birth, she was charged by the minute for each minute the canister was in her room.
The consensus in the USA was that this wasn't right though.
