to not be scared by seeing ghosts

Just that really. I just saw someone walk across the landing in my house, there's no one there of course. Usually like this incident it's out the corner of my eye but I've also seen ghosts looking straight at them too. Sometimes I smell things that aren't there too. I'm reasonably sane and well adjusted and I've been seeing phenomena for years and years. I was just thinking though that ghosts are supposed to be scary but it's not that I've got used to it, I can't remember them ever scaring me. Would you be scared if you saw a ghost? I don't feel brave, more like "oh look there's another one"
Well prepared for all the people saying I'm stark raving bonkers but I know I'm not imagining any of it.

Me neither because they're not real, well bye

BrightYellowDaffodil · 04/07/2019 21:56

It depends - I'm generally not bothered and sometimes I'm fairly sure I know who they are. But other times I haven't liked what I've seen/heard so I've asked them to leave me alone.

Arsparsley · 04/07/2019 21:56

You may not be imagining things but your senses could well be deceiving you. That and your interpretative narrative.

dudsville · 04/07/2019 21:59

You have unusual experiences, you have a theory for it that works for you, the experience doesn't bother you. All's well!

akmum18 · 04/07/2019 22:04

Ive seen them since I was a child they sometimes freak me out when I’m not expecting it, but I’m used to it now. I was once told they’re not ghosts in the sense we view, but a ‘crossing of worlds’ like a glitch in the system but that’s a tin hat theory Grin

Oysterbabe · 04/07/2019 22:07

I'm not scared of things that don't exist either.

Passtherioja · 04/07/2019 22:08

I've seen loads of unexplained things-usually at a poignant time. I know who it is and it brings me comfort; he'd never hurt me x

AhhhHereItGoes · 04/07/2019 22:23

Personally I think it's probably a trick of the mind. I've seen things, felt things, smelt things - but my imagination is wild.
However, I just don't know for sure nobody knows anything 100%.
If I was to see one context would be everything. During the day in a pleasant house/town would not be scary. Alone in an unnerving place would definitely be scary.
Likewise if I got bad vibes of the thing.
So perhaps, perhaps not.

You aren't mad OP.
You either do see ghosts or other things, you see things and your brain interprets them as ghosts or you have a wild imagination.
None of us can tell you.

But as long as you aren't frightened then no harm done.

edwinbear · 04/07/2019 22:28

I grew up in a haunted house and seeing ghosts was a regular occurrence, for those of us living there as well as visitors. I had one or two frightening experiences and there was an unpleasant ‘feel’ in one of the outbuildings that meant even my mum and dad avoided it. But in the main, we grew used to them and developed a similar attitude to you OP.

I’ve haven’t seen anything supernatural since I moved out mind.

bingbongnoise · 04/07/2019 22:30

@Handmethegin

to not be scared by seeing ghosts
VivienneHolt · 04/07/2019 22:32

Ghosts aren’t real so no, yanbu for not being scared.

FloofenHoofen · 04/07/2019 22:35

It's your perception. My perception of your situation would be to suggest hallucinations, and yes you can smell and also feel things that aren't there.
I experience this during sleep they're called hypnagogic and hypnopompic hallucinations.

However yours occurs when you're awake so personally I would be telling my GP and investigating any potential mental health conditions that could cause these types of hallucinations.

Handmethegin · 04/07/2019 22:46

@akmum18 that's how they sometimes seem to me - a "crossing of worlds" like I'm looking through a frosted window and the other person is walking past oblivious to my existence.
Sometimes I see them clearly though and they're the ones that have looked at me or seemed to be here with purpose.

@BrightYellowDaffodil there's one who likes to change the music I'm playing to Christmas songs, over and over until I tell him I know he's there then he stops. I don't see him but I know who he is.

@edwinbear good to know it's not just me, I'm just used to it

Wow there's a lot of scientists with proof that this phenomena doesn't occur on this board..!

Blueberrysponge · 04/07/2019 22:56

I sometimes hear people talking or the doorbell going when I'm half asleep. Once at my friend's house I was staying over babysitting while she went out. I remember I definitely heard the door go and some drunk friends coming in, even the sounds of chatter and beer cans opening. And I needed the toilet but couldn't be bothered going through to get stuck chatting with drunk folk. Then the door went and I heard my friend come back in for real, I was so confused because the first event seemed so real, but it never happened, was just half asleep.

Has anyone ever had that weird but amazing sex with no one half asleep thing?! Literally best sex ever but it's just a hallucination.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/07/2019 22:57

Just reasonably sane, are you op. Saying that you've beaten me.
I'm batshit crazy, but. I think any ghost would have more sense than to come and live with me, thoughGrin. (Lighthearted hence the grin).
All jokes a side. I do love ghosts.
I'm obsessed with the Haunted Liverpool books.

Ledkr · 04/07/2019 22:57

There's always is.. it seems to bring out the sanctimonious know alls

Sparklesocks · 04/07/2019 23:00

I wouldn’t be scared if I saw someone I knew, that would be reassuring and quite lovely to see them again. But I would be if it was a random!

Dreamhat · 04/07/2019 23:01

I think maybe it might be an idea to see your GP.

If you are experiencing visual hallucinations and smelling odours that aren't there, it might be wise to rule out a physical cause.

You don't have to go and say "I see ghosts", but maybe couch it in language such as "sometimes, I experience smells that I'm not sure are real, and I wondered if they might be a symptom of something."

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/07/2019 23:04

I absolutely believe you OP, that you’ve seen one. 100%

I’ve seen one. It’s fundamentally changed me. It hasn’t made me scared of ghosts. One thing - it’s made me wonder why I have only seen one, in 50 odd years of life. Now I know they exist. Why have I seen just one.

Handmethegin · 04/07/2019 23:07

@ThroughThickAndThin01 it's odd how it just happens isn't it. I sometimes wonder why I can't communicate with them, like why can't I have a chat, but they're usually just passing through and don't even see me.

OP posts:
RosaWaiting · 04/07/2019 23:08

Through may I ask how the experience changed you?

Handmethegin · 04/07/2019 23:09

Wow there's a lot of scientists with proof that this phenomena doesn't occur on this board..!

Always, but I didn't ask anyone whether ghosts exist or not as I know they do so I'm just scrolling on past those posters. Each to their own opinion.

Its not really about believing or not believing. It has actually been proven that consciousness survives bodily death.
Also you hear some things and you have no choice to believe, as There are some things you just would not lie about.
When I was at school. A girl who had recently lost her dad told us that he came to her one night, and was talking to her for about 1 hour. Telling her he's always with and to look after her mum, and to do her best in school. I.highly doubt she'd was mock her father's memory and making something like that up.

DarlingCoffee · 04/07/2019 23:10

I’ve seen one as well OP, so YANBU but be prepared for a lot of people that tell you that you are. ‘There are more things in heaven and earth horatio, than are dreamt of you in your philosophy’
