to not be scared by seeing ghosts

Handmethegin · 04/07/2019 21:53

Just that really. I just saw someone walk across the landing in my house, there's no one there of course. Usually like this incident it's out the corner of my eye but I've also seen ghosts looking straight at them too. Sometimes I smell things that aren't there too. I'm reasonably sane and well adjusted and I've been seeing phenomena for years and years. I was just thinking though that ghosts are supposed to be scary but it's not that I've got used to it, I can't remember them ever scaring me. Would you be scared if you saw a ghost? I don't feel brave, more like "oh look there's another one"
Well prepared for all the people saying I'm stark raving bonkers but I know I'm not imagining any of it.

be prepared for a lot of people that tell you that you are.

I'm 42 I'm used to reactions from people who don't believe me. That's fine, they don't have to.

Rosa I’ll find it difficult to explain how it has changed me. I can only clumsily describe my feelings. From “do they exist, don’t they?”. “How bloody scary” Visions of scooby doo scary fake ghosts. Childhood memories of ghost story sleepovers trying to entice a ghost to out itself. Why do some people see them . If people see them why aren’t there a zillion photos of them. Then I saw one, absolutely no doubt, and apart from being totally shocked my first thought was “Now I know” I will always believe anyone with an experience. I don’t want to see anymore, but I know what I saw.

Btw I don’t tell people in rl. Only one or two. My dc have also seen it, it’s in our home.

Handmethegin · 04/07/2019 23:23

@Awwlookatmybabyspider
There's too much I can't explain. The only time I've felt unnerved by any of it was once night when I was sitting opposite a friend who was looking slightly away from me with his head tilted a little to the floor. Another face appeared over his and turned to look up straight at me. This other face looked right into my eyes and it wasn't nice. All this time my friend hadn't moved and was still facing a little away from me. I stared back and said something along the lines of "don't mess with me", this other face moved back down over my friend's features then disappeared. Now that was freaky. And I can't explain it. No alcohol involved or anything.

P.S. why Liverpool are you local? I'm in Liverpool Grin

People are so rude! I've seen hundreds (but more often than not, the same ones over and over). My whole life. Lived in two very haunted houses, known for it in their towns, so it wasn't just me that saw them! Other residents (and visitors) did too.

RosaWaiting · 04/07/2019 23:24

through thank you.

recklessruby · 04/07/2019 23:25

We live in a haunted Victorian house. We have all seen or felt our ghost. She drifts through meaning no harm.
I believe you OP

IvanaPee · 04/07/2019 23:27

Always, but I didn't ask anyone whether ghosts exist or not as I know they do so I'm just scrolling on past those posters. Each to their own opinion.

You don’t know that they do, though.

I agree with another PP about maybe seeing a doctor before you assign anything to the supernatural.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/07/2019 23:27

Yes I'm a scouser. Grin

That story is as creepy as hell, BTW.
#shudddderrrrrrsssss.👻

Aaarrgghhh · 04/07/2019 23:28

Here’s the thing, I don’t know if I believe ghosts are real. I like to think they are and because I’ve never seen one and have only watched about them in the context of creepy and wanting a scare, I think if I seen one myself I’d shit myself. Saying that, because I haven’t seen one myself unless I’m reading about them or watching some cheesy ghost hunter show, they don’t scare me all the time only when I over think about it. I kind of hope I don’t see one though, but until I do I can’t say they are real.

IvanaPee · 04/07/2019 23:29

But how is it that nobody has ever in the history of the world caught one on camera?

How come they’re always victorian women or Georgian soldiers and not someone from the 80s with shoulder pads and a bad perm?

Most “sightings” seem to be at night. So a dream, then!

It’s never at 11am in the fruit aisle of Tesco!

NorksofPlenty · 04/07/2019 23:35

Oh wow, I'd be terrified if I ever saw a ghost. I have heard and experienced a few, but never seen anything. I don't ever want to either! Can you describe what you see, how do you know it isn't a real person, are they see through or floaty like in films, books etc, have you ever communicated with one?? I'm so intrigued!

VladmirsPoutine · 04/07/2019 23:36

I'm not going to deny your personal lived experience but I think you need to rein it in somewhat. If you believe in ghosts you'll almost certainly see/experience them. Like the same way if you anticipate a shit day you will have one.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/07/2019 23:41

I hadn’t thought of that before Ivana but you’re right. Unless the shoulder padded ghosts don’t cause so much suspicion just people who are a bit outdated on fashion.

My ghost was a traditional ghost as well. But I can tell you that my dc had been talking about seeing it for a while which I had poo poohed like the sceptic I was. They kept going on about it and just said I needed to look in a particular mirror to see it (no description). 2.00 one afternoon on a sunny day I did, and there it appeared. I only asked them afterwards what it had looked like and what had happened and individually they described the same thing I had seen. I didn’t tell them I had seen it. I can only described it as something caught in time, there would have been no conversing with it. Like an old fashioned cine film caught in a frame and flickering. One day I’ll tell them I’ve seen it too. I think the sightings have stopped though, no ones said anything for a while.

70sWitch · 04/07/2019 23:41

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

Its not really about believing or not believing. It has actually been proven that consciousness survives bodily death

Has it? I'd love to know more about this. Can you expand or link to the research please?

RosaWaiting · 04/07/2019 23:42

Ivana “How come they’re always victorian women or Georgian soldiers and not someone from the 80s with shoulder pads and a bad perm?”

Someone always asks this. But lots of things I hear from people are modern. Is it that the massive canon of older ghost stories are at the front of your mind? And certainly books and tv shows feature ghosts from....well, whoever’s no longer here and may well just be wearing jeans.

RosaWaiting · 04/07/2019 23:45

PS also Ivana you say most sightings at night - um, no. Maybe in the documented sightings though I don’t know how they document such things.

Vlad - it’s good to anticipate a shit day at work, you’re always either prepared or pleasantly surprised 😂

notangelinajolie · 04/07/2019 23:47

I'm scared when I think of ghosts but in reality when I see them I don't feel any fear at all.

Lycanthropology · 04/07/2019 23:48

It has actually been proven that consciousness survives bodily death

Er, when and by whom?

Handmethegin · 04/07/2019 23:51

@IvanaPee, yes ok I don't know they are ghosts but I do know that my experience is valid and as it's been going on most of my life and my nan and son have also seen things I'm guessing I don't have a sudden brain condition that's causing hallucinations for decades and infecting family members. But anyway I'm totally fine that you have a different opinion, I also often wonder how there isn't a ton of photographic evidence.

Incidentally I don't see Victorian women or floating soldiers. How about a teenage lad in a tracksuit standing two foot to the side of a well lit country path where the ground next to the path drops down to a stream so he would actually have been standing on thin air? My dog pulled at his lead so I glanced down at the dog, looked back up and he had gone. There was good visibility and he could not have run off in that split second without me being able to still see him. My husband was a few metres behind me and saw nothing.

@Rosa I’ve literally never heard anyone, on here or in rl say they’d seen a ghost in normal clothes. Not ever!

And on this thread alone people have talked about waking up and seeing stuff, or falling asleep and seeing stuff.

And, as I said, not one picture or video or anything, ever?! Don’t you think that’s weird?

@ThroughThickAndThin01 I think that must have been the way shadows were falling across something in that instance.

Only seen in the same mirror? Unless you think the mirror is haunted chances are it had been on your mind because they’d said it. And one probably “saw” it first and told the other etc.

We’re very susceptible, I think, and our brains can trick us quite easily!

IvanaPee · 04/07/2019 23:54

@Handmethegin I’m not saying your lying or anything! I think if you want to believe something is true, your mind will play tricks!

Like, I just can’t logically believe a dead teenager in a tracksuit was floating in the air over a river!

Sinn · 04/07/2019 23:54

I've seen ghosts or spirits as I say, ever since I can remember. Even when I was little I used to see them so it's normal to me.

A few people in my family can see them, we've often seen the same one and have told my mum at different times without discussing it with each other. She doesn't see them and gets a bit freaked.

DH was a non believer until our recent house. I could see one as soon as we moved in and hadn't told him. He saw it after a few months and said guess what I've just seen? He was 😱 when I told him exactly what he'd seen as I'd been seeing him too.

Deffo not always Victorian or old clothes either, mine are usually modern.

I don't mind a bit if people don't believe, I wouldn't either if I wasn't me Grin

WorraLiberty · 04/07/2019 23:57

Would you be scared if you saw a ghost?

Only for my mental health...

Honestly, I work in a local attraction - manor house over 700 years old and you wouldn't believe the amount of people who have convinced themselves it's haunted.

It isn't.

Sinn · 04/07/2019 23:57

When I was little I wasn't a believer or a non believer, I just saw people who I knew weren't alive anymore if that makes sense, no one put the idea in my head or anything. It was a long time later that I realised other people couldn't see them and I quickly learned to keep quiet about it.

Handmethegin · 04/07/2019 23:57

@NorksofPlenty a lot of the time it's as if someone walks past and I'm seeing them through frosted glass, you know like the bathroom window. I know tonight it wasn't a real person as my son was in bed, I was sitting in his room looking at the open door to the landing and my husband had just been for a pee, waved at me and gone back downstairs. No-one else lives in our house. Someone (frosted) then walked out of the bathroom and crossed the landing to the spare room.

@Aaarrgghhh that's the thing, by most people's logic I should crap my pants every time it happens but I just don't. What I see is very different from in the films though.
