Her ludicrous speech comparing EU membership to slavery is a spit in the face of every descendant of actual slaves. Shame on her.

I realised last night that she’s the living embodiment of Aunt Lydia TemporaryPermanent. Almost expect her to start off with “Under His a Eye”.

BertrandRussell · 05/07/2019 06:59

Yes- her conversion was interesting. Cheerfully accepting transubstantiation rather than women priests. And all that cutesy stuff about cats and teddy bears while making woman prisoners give birth shackled.

“Something of the night” was a good line though. And it’s fantastic to see an older woman taking a prominent role in anything.....

Cobblersandhogwash · 05/07/2019 07:04

I think people talking shite should be stopped from talking shite.

Freedom of speech does not mean you can talk bollocks and say, "It might be bollocks but it's my opinion and therefore it's valid."

Nope. You talk out of your rectum and you will, quite rightly, get slammed.

bellinisurge · 05/07/2019 07:05

I was baptised a Catholic. Lot of gentle contempt for people who become Catholics just to avoid women priests.

Cobblersandhogwash · 05/07/2019 07:05

@itwaseverthus "a failing despot"?

Are you referring the EU?

Please tell me in what way is the EU despotic?

I do love concrete examples when big claims like this are made.

Cobblersandhogwash · 05/07/2019 07:07

@itwaseverthus I am a big believer in democracy.

But only when the election or referendum is legal and fair without corruption or rule breaking.

TheClitterati · 05/07/2019 07:12

I actually don't think she should apologise. She wouldn't mean it and forced apologies are not apologies. Just bullshit.

Let her own her ridiculous embarrassing statement and be reminded about it for the rest of her days. She's a hideous person and in fine company with the rest of the bigoted Brexit party.

1tisILeClerc · 05/07/2019 07:21

With luck karma will prevail and if she and the Brexit party get anywhere near 'running' the country after the next election, all eyes will be on them when they fail.
I hate to think what state the UK will be in though.
If the UK truly ditches the EU and goes crawling up the backside of the USA there may be more disappointment as the UK becomes the 51st state, after Puerto Rico.

TemporaryPermanent · 05/07/2019 07:34

No I wouldn't call for an apology. Just gives her and Farage's business venture more publicity. Any apology would be a lie, she likes being offensive and ignorant. Wouldn't like to be her confessor.

twofingerstoEverything · 05/07/2019 07:39

I suspect we'll see much more of this nonsense from the Brexit Party in the EU parliament. A lot of them (I include AW in this) are attention-seekers. Other are professional shit-stirrers (NF). You can find your MEP's contact details here if you want to write and object. I wrote to mine after their Tuesday toddler tantrum.

What I think we won't be seeing from the Brexit Party is mature, rational, informed debate. It's so much easier to make a silly gesture like turning your back, rather than discussing something from a position of experience and knowldege.

omione · 05/07/2019 08:59

I must have heard a different speech !

FriarTuck · 05/07/2019 09:06

She shouldn't apologise unless she's actually sorry. Forced apologies are meaningless.

Dionn · 05/07/2019 09:07

That speech was an utter disgrace. A slap in the face of truth and morality

VivienneHolt · 05/07/2019 09:09

I always remember her conversion to Catholicism once the Church of England began ordaining women as priests.

Imagine not being able to live with women being ordained, but being happy to turn a blind eye to the widespread cover up of sexual abuse of children.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 05/07/2019 09:11

I think its fair enough for her to say it

And its fair enough for people to complain about her saying it

The most people have said is that she should apologise...i agree with some on here that there is no point in an apology forced or otherwise

No one is shrieking

And if this is thread is honestly going to mean the end of Mumsnet someone to give justine a heads up

Gooigi · 07/07/2019 19:58

I don't see what good a forced apology would do. She's been a bigot for decades, she's not about to change now.
