Is this a thing? Weird teen street behaviour

Out walking on a wide pavement earlier today, enjoying the sunshine, when teenage girls I’ve never met before - probably about 17/18 - walking towards me, when one alters her course to walk right in front of me and bellow in my face.

When I ask why she did that she just giggles with her friend and skips off.

Is this a thing now? I have to say it was rather disconcerting.

No it’s not a thing. Atleast not among my teens or their friends. And at 18 that’s incredibly childish behaviour.

Soubriquet · 03/07/2019 20:28

Just kids showing off in front of their friends

MachineBee · 03/07/2019 21:54

It was very weird. I was fine but it’s stupid thing to do to a stranger in the street. What if I’d been someone who suffered from anxiety or had a nervous disposition? Or if I’d been someone with a temper?

What vile behaviour, she'll come up against someone who will probably turn on her at some point. It'll serve her right.

MachineBee · 03/07/2019 22:10

Wow! 100% agreement on MN. At least so far Grin

Is it the latest version of Happy Slapping? Angry

Bunnybigears · 03/07/2019 22:14

That's not a thing as far as I am aware its just being a twat and very childish for a 17/18 year old.

AutumnCrow · 03/07/2019 22:18

She'd get twatted round my way if she was 18. And I'm not kidding.

Tink1990 · 03/07/2019 22:21

Thats horrible!

LaurieFairyCake · 03/07/2019 22:22

I'd better not meet a teen who does this. I have a very instinctive right hook that immediately appears when I'm surprised or threatened.

lolaflores · 03/07/2019 22:23

Might be another version of kids on bikes playing chicken with traffic. I've seen younger people walking into the street in traffic.
Being downright obnoxious seems to be in fashion at the moment.

staydazzling · 03/07/2019 22:23

as my grandad used to say those who go looking for trouble should always find it.

Very understandable! 👍

DontCallMeShitley · 03/07/2019 22:29

Someone on another thread mentioned a lad doing something similar.

Maybe it is the new version of -being a prat- happy slapping.

My reactions are such that I would probably retaliate with a smack in the face or a knee in the privates because I have had various creeps approach me in the past and I take no prisoners, so would very likely end up in some kind of trouble.

DontCallMeShitley · 03/07/2019 22:30

Strikethrough fail, sorry.

MachineBee · 03/07/2019 22:36

I sincerely hope this isn’t a new form of happy slapping. That was a horrid craze.

They must know it’s perfectly possible for the reflexes to take over in a situation like this and that the shouter runs the real risk of getting lamped. I’ll bet they choose their victims carefully.

MachineBee · 03/07/2019 22:37

Doh! Is it very wrong....

OP posts:
MachineBee · 03/07/2019 22:39

I’m not sure many would describe me as a wimp! But perhaps they were fooled by the premature wrinkles and grey hair from my own teens Grin

What did she bellow at you? Words or just ridiculous noises? She'd probably have got a Glasgow kiss from me if she was in my face 😬

PodgeBod · 03/07/2019 22:51

Pretty shit but better then the happy slapping that was popular when I was a teenager. I haven't seen bellowing in the face, but I have seen teenagers blocking traffic in my area just to be annoying. So they will half way cross on a green man but then stand still and refuse to move so the car can pass afterwards. Its infuriating.

BummyKnocker · 03/07/2019 22:56

What did she bellow? I would have been mortified too, it is horrible to be targeted like this. Sad

MyGuideJools · 03/07/2019 23:05

There were 2 teens in front of me on bikes the other day, on the road. both decided to take up the whole road cycling 2 abreast. Then suddenly did wheelies and cycled along with their wheels in the air.
They knew damn well I was behind them so I beeped my horn and they jumped out of their skin.
I sound really old now, but some of the teens round here are awful.

Branleuse · 03/07/2019 23:07

showing off. Probably dared by friend, and also probably younger than you think

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 03/07/2019 23:08

Last year I walked past some school girls at a bus stop. One of them leaned towards me and yelled "PENIS!!" in my face. I guess it's showing off of sorts.
