Is this a thing? Weird teen street behaviour

Out walking on a wide pavement earlier today, enjoying the sunshine, when teenage girls I’ve never met before - probably about 17/18 - walking towards me, when one alters her course to walk right in front of me and bellow in my face.

When I ask why she did that she just giggles with her friend and skips off.

Is this a thing now? I have to say it was rather disconcerting.

No words, she’d just went ‘Aaarggghhh’ really loudly.

@Branleuse - you’re probably right about the age. They weren’t in school uniform so could be 16 and just finished GCSEs.

You should've given her a stern lecture about going to the library and reading to improve her vocab. - even "penis" girl did better than her.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 03/07/2019 23:14

Some are just plain weird .

I would likely react by going "Aaargggghhh" really loudly back at her

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 03/07/2019 23:16

Oh please, I hope she tries it on me. I’ll slap her hard enough for both of us.

ElizaPancakes · 03/07/2019 23:17

I had something similar but I was driving. I was going through a crossing, the traffic light was green, this young woman I assume had the hump because she had to pause before crossing and yelled ARSE at me as I went past.

No idea what that was about, what yours is about, or even what happy slapping is!

Moralitym1n1 · 03/07/2019 23:20

Anyway it's supposed to give you a fright and give them a laugh (and make them feel momentarily all powerful, like.

Suppose we should be glad they're not dropping stone's onto your car (while in motion) from a height, let me teenagers like to do near me.

IvanaPee · 03/07/2019 23:23

I genuinely lash out when I’m scared so probably would have belted her!

Tillygetsit · 03/07/2019 23:25

My first reaction would be to bellow back. Worked on dd's tantrums.

PregnantSea · 03/07/2019 23:26

She was probably just showing off in front of her friends. One day someone will punch her for doing that and then she will learn not to.

Just ignore it and move on.

pigsDOfly · 03/07/2019 23:31

I had something similar but was in my car.

My drivers window was down when I had to slow down near a group of school kids aged about 14. One of the girls leaned close to the window and bellowed loudly, no words just a loud noise.

I think I was meant to be startled and react with shock; such a shame for her, I just continued facing forward and moved on as the traffic moved.

Tadpoletofrog · 03/07/2019 23:38

I had similar happen to me last year. I was walking alone, in the dark adjacent to a park, so pretty quiet, although it wasn’t late. Walked past one of the entrances to the park and someone jumped out, and bellowed at me. Scared the shit out of me, I instinctively lashed out, and very nearly whacked a young teenage girl around the head

I wondered after what the legal position might be if I had instinctively hit her, or if I had been walking my dog and he reacted and bit her. Would I have been potentially liable for assault if she made a complaint? Anyone know?

Defender90 · 03/07/2019 23:42

Happened to me recently although the girls were younger maybe 13/14 walked toward me no bothering then screamed at my face HIYA TRACEY and ran off laughing like hyenas.

Smellbowpenisbeaker · 03/07/2019 23:51

Twat. Not nice. Hope you’re okay.

I still remember the only street-teen abuse I’ve ever received. Was walking with my BF (now DH) And one girl said, “What the fuck is he doing with her?”

Then her mate said, “Don’t you mean that the other way around?”

To this day, I wish I knew! As it is, I’m simultaneously sad about being out of DH’s league and angry that they put him down all at once!

Fluffyscamp · 03/07/2019 23:57

Well bloody hell I’m actually quite relieved it wasn’t just me randomly getting barked at (really loudly) by a teen through my car window recently with my kids in the back in slow traffic. Thankfully I saw him sort of gearing up to it as he walked to the car so I managed not to jump out of my skin and just give a wtf look which I’m guessing wasn’t the reaction I was hoping for. The only reaction from the kids was a very calm mummy why did that weird man just bark at you which his mates heard so they were pointing and laughing at him rather than me Grin

tobypercy · 03/07/2019 23:57

It's not new, I had it done to me in the mid '90s.
Some people think it's funny.
Thankfully it wasn't common then or now.

Thump · 04/07/2019 00:16

High on drugs.

pigsDOfly · 04/07/2019 00:20

I doubt the girl that yelled into my car was high on drugs Thump they looked about 14 and were in school uniform clearly on their way home from school.

Itsyersel · 04/07/2019 00:31

Should have punched her in the jaw!

Bravelurker · 04/07/2019 00:47

On the way home from work on my bike when it was very dark, 2 older teenage boys peddled towards me with their phone torches on and shining them in my face , intending to blind me.
I ignored it but I decided to carry a small can of body stray in my little front basket. I probably wouldn't have used it if It happened again but the idea of spraying one of them in the face made me want it to happen again Blush.

NewtonPulsifer · 04/07/2019 00:49

I had this in from a group of French teens at an aquarium on holiday (U.K.). I was walking with DS2, age 5, and one of the fuckers ran up to us as was all “arrrghh, oooooh” and did a weird dance. I stepped forward, trod on her foot, and did it back. She got a right fright. Absolute fuckwit was lucky I didn’t right hook her jaw as the thought crossed my mind for a second.
Round here they wouldn’t get away with it, and someone would twat them.

GibbonLover · 04/07/2019 01:16

Oh God, everything I learnt in self-defence class would have kicked in if that had happened to me and I predict it won't be too long before the silly cow gets karate chopped. Probably by a petite woman in her sixties who looks like she wouldn't say boo to a goose!

Chouetted · 04/07/2019 01:23

Agree with whoever said it's not new.

There's a reason it's always the Middles causing mayhem in old boarding school books. Some teens just seem to sort of lose all grasp of their senses around the age.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 04/07/2019 01:28

I'm 33 and stupid idiots making caveman noises like this at people has always been a thing round here... probably speaks volumes about where I'm from.

OkPedro · 04/07/2019 01:34

There’s always one who thinks “drugs or drink” sometimes people are just arseholes
