Hello - Producer Amanda has just found out that a friend of hers thought the lyric to the first line of Brain Adams' Summer Of 69' was 'Got my first real sex dream' .... it's 'Got my first real SIX STRING' .. an easy mistake to make though...
So AIBU to ask for your similar lyrical mix-ups?

The whole of Get Lucky- in fact that whole album- is hard to hear. I still think it goes "let's raise the bar, in a courtesy car"

And there's another track where the chorus is "lose yourself to dance" where the first two lines are definitely "I know you don't get a break that often/I know that you were speeding on the way to Scotland"

babyno5 · 03/07/2019 22:11

DD's friend thought KD Lang's Constant cravings was "cant stand gravy" 😂😂. Can't Unhear that now 😂

Hecateh · 03/07/2019 22:22

In the 80s, my daughter
Meatloaf
Her version 'All dressed up and no place to go - which as the real words were 'revved up' I was happy about
Human League sang 'Don't you want my babies?'
and Paul Young sang
'Every time you go away, you take a piece of meat with you.'

GummyGoddess · 03/07/2019 23:15

Cherry chapstick, e.g. lip balm.

Bonnie Tyler sings "living with a poltergeist who's giving off farts"...

MaryPopppins · 03/07/2019 23:21

For years I sang "my lover's got no money, he's got his trom bo lees" (actually "strong beliefs")

Didn't have a clue what a trom bo lees was. But always what I sang.

Followed by "freed from desire, mine insenses purified"

Don't even know what she's really saying there still now.....

2toe · 03/07/2019 23:27

Someone I worked with years ago was wandering around work singing “I can see Deirdre now Lorraine has gone” instead of “I can see clearly now the rain has gone”, it still makes me laugh every time I hear the song.

DoveBlue · 03/07/2019 23:27

Uh oh we're in trouble, SUMMERS come along and it's burst our bubble.

Always wondered why summer was bad.

Lotts123 · 03/07/2019 23:31

Lorde - Royals She sings “you can call me queen bee”, my brother & I sing “you can be a green bean”

Also KC & Jojo - Show me Happiness, as a teenager all my friends sang “show me your penis” 🤦🏼‍♀️

All very mature!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/07/2019 23:58

Bonnie Tyler sings "living with a poltergeist who's giving off farts"...

The actual lyrics are 'living in a powder keg', which also happen to sound very much like 'eating lots of powdered egg' - which absolutely explains the giving off farts!

I drove all night and crapped in your room - is that all right?

Errrrrrrmmmm, probably not, actually, if you really need to ask.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 04/07/2019 00:03

Wait.... turning snakes into the sea

It isn't that!!? I'm off to Google me some lyrics!!!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/07/2019 00:08

Christina Perri, collecting her jar of farts.

Sounds like a cry for help and a case for social services to me.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 04/07/2019 00:09

Time of My Life :

"with my body in soap I want you more than you'll ever know"

10 year old me was very confused by this.

30 year old me very grateful for lyrics being available on the Internet.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 04/07/2019 00:11

Family legend has it that my granddad was very confused with Paul McCartney making a song about "Mulligan Tyres"

dangrenade · 04/07/2019 00:12

‘And you lick me out in a wave of love.
Ooh baby do you know what that’s worth?
Ooh heaven is a place on earth.......’

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 04/07/2019 00:13

Last one I promise.

My daughter loved the Elbow song One Day Like This

Instead of "throw those curtains wide, one day like this a year can see me right"

She would sing :
"... One day like this a year and silly rice"

Naturally I plan to be singing her lyrics when we see them in Manchester next week 😂

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 04/07/2019 00:17

I lied... Last one I swear.

It Must Have Been Love by Roxette, lyrics are:

Make believing
We're together
That I'm sheltered
By your heart
But in and outside
I turn to water
Like a teardrop
In your palm

Until very recently, confused as to the meaning though I was, I sang:

But in a knapsack,
I turn to Autumn
Like a teardrop
In your heart.

Bumper1969 · 04/07/2019 00:35

Robert Palmer

Gonna have to face it you're a dickhead in love.

Seahawk80 · 04/07/2019 00:38

DH is terrible for this
"I saw British accents" instead of I'm sorry Miss Jackson by OutKast
"I've found myself a cherryade " instead of cheerleader by OMI
And this morning he was singing along to Rebel Yell by Billy Idol ... "in the midnight yeah" instead of with a rebel yell!

Seahawk80 · 04/07/2019 00:40

@TopEndChops I always thought it was loser street!

Also in Like a Prayer by Madonna I thought it was "level crossing" not Let the choir sing!

Furries · 04/07/2019 00:44

@sar302 - I spent a few weeks singing that too (whilst vaguely realising it was odd).

Even once I’d found out what the lyrics really were, I still sing along to my version as it’s more fun!!

I just picture a typical USA rural motel with loads of horses tucked up in bed for the night and heading off the next morning on a new adventure!

Who knew that Abba shopped in Tesco instead of Glasgow ?
