Some of my friends do this and I just think 'WHY?'

AIBU?

I should add the same friends are knackered by it all..

I don't. If he's especially mucky then yeah but otherwise once or twice a week does it.

MondeoFan · 02/07/2019 19:01

I don't, but I had a friend that did and she used to really stress herself out with it, bathing, drying etc. I think people do it as they think it will send them off to sleep nicely afterwards

luckygreeneyes · 02/07/2019 19:01

I don’t either, twice a week unless visibly dirty. I also don’t understand friends who get stressed out about it

nicecuppaforme · 02/07/2019 19:02

Yanbu if you don't want to.

I bath my toddler every night because he likes it, it winds him down and is part of his bedtime routine.

EssentialHummus · 02/07/2019 19:03

Meh, whatever works. We do but we’re very routine-y.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 02/07/2019 19:03

Every other night for us! I'm on a water meter anyway and so can't be arsed with the expense of running a bath every night

nicecuppaforme · 02/07/2019 19:03

They're knackered by bathing their toddler 😂 it takes like 15 minutes.
Also my toddler does get dirty throughout the day too actually, he plays in the garden a lot and is toilet training.

Passthecherrycoke · 02/07/2019 19:03

We don’t every night, unless they’re dirty but I tend to in the summer as they’re covered in sun cream which attracts dirt sand etc

Mixingitall · 02/07/2019 19:04

It depends on the the age of the child, when they’re small a bath helps them to fall asleep and probably becomes routine.

My children are older and I make the call based on how dirty they are, they’re currently filthy from paying outside all the time, and clammy from being so active, I wouldn’t miss bath/shower time.

AyBeeCee10 · 02/07/2019 19:04

How old. Personally I think its lazy and icky not to. Toddlers are constantly messing and running about. As well as pooing. A bath is part of a good routine .

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 02/07/2019 19:04

Ours gets one if he’s dirty. Otherwise he might get one at the weekend or if it’s been a while. Sometimes he might go two weeks without a bath but not often. This week he’s bathed in the paddling pool on the balcony.

ElizaPancakes · 02/07/2019 19:04

I never did. All three of my kids have treated baths like a fun water park so it never wound them down.

Of course they’d have a wash if needed but if not then twice a week or when especially smelly!

ElspethFlashman · 02/07/2019 19:05

My friend does this. Personally I think bathing any kid 365 days a year is batshit.

You'd swear they were down t'mines.

fishnugget · 02/07/2019 19:05

I should say they're about 14/15 months

BooseysMom · 02/07/2019 19:06

I thought it wasn't good for their natural skin oils etc to be bathed every day. I have a constant battle to get my 5yo in the bath and he loathes having his hair washed so i manage a bath about twice a week and a hair wash just once!

fishnugget · 02/07/2019 19:07

It think it's a waste of time, a complete faff, waste of water and bad for their skin.

But then mine gets hyper in the bath so it's not part of bedtime routine

OP posts:
Passthecherrycoke · 02/07/2019 19:07

Even if we don’t do it every day it’s every other day or x3 per week - couldnt imagine just once they’d be well grubby

NewAccount270219 · 02/07/2019 19:07

We bathe one year old DS every day. It's part of his routine, he loves it and he's always filthy from his dinner, if not before that.

BarryBarryTaylor · 02/07/2019 19:07

I did at that age, at 3.5yrs Dd started getting very dry sore patches of skin behind her knees so aside from some prescribed creams, the GP said just bathe every other night, so that’s what we do now.

formerbabe · 02/07/2019 19:07

Toddlers get really mucky imo...especially when they're eating. I always bathed mine every day. The world won't implode if you don't though.

RedSheep73 · 02/07/2019 19:07

We did, because A it's fun and they enjoyed playing in the water, B it's a routine and once I'd got them in a bedtime routine I wasn't going to risk it, and C they always seemed to get filthy. I bath/shower myself every day, why would I not do the same for them?

user1480880826 · 02/07/2019 19:08

14/15 month old is not going to get very dirty except from eating. Mine is 2.5 and she really does need a bath every night because she’s filthy by the end of the day.

Wheresmrlion · 02/07/2019 19:08

YANBU. Unnecessary unless it’s been a really hot or muddy day and what a huge waste of water, energy and time, plus not good for their skin.

We aim for every other night here but sometimes if we’re having a nice time playing after dinner we’d rather carry on so bump bath on a day. If they’re covered in paint or mud they’ll obviously get bathed if it’s not bath night.

nicecuppaforme · 02/07/2019 19:09

It think it's a waste of time, a complete faff, waste of water and bad for their skin.

Ok, so don't do it then, no one is telling you to.
