Some of my friends do this and I just think 'WHY?'

AIBU?

Used to be 3 mornings a week for my 3 year old but now it's becoming daily as she keeps sucking on her hair and it makes it smell

SudowoodoVoodoo · 03/07/2019 17:42

I did it as and when needed, often after particularly revolting nappy changes.

It took too long to do as bedtime routine as they'd get hyped up, and want lots of time to play.

They didn't get generally filthy though and tended to get a good clean down with a flannel through the day such as after meal times. Wet wipes were pretty rubbish for that kind of thing as they just smear rather than picking up the mess.

checkeredredshorts · 03/07/2019 17:44

I do it every day because I like him to go to bed nice and clean and it helps him relax and unwind, I'm sure he knows it's bedtime afterwards.

He is a mucky thing though always rooting in the garden and covering himself on food Grin

MustardScreams · 03/07/2019 17:48

I do because dd goes to a forest nursery and is usually filthy when I pick her up. Plus it winds her down after a long day and gives us a chance to catch up.

Tigger001 · 03/07/2019 17:50

I don't and we were advised it was perfectly fine, if not actually preferred, not to as it can dry out their skin.

NeckPainChairSearch · 03/07/2019 17:58

Every day. She's messy and loves a bath! Same with us and other slightly older DC.

I don't even think about what other people do...too many variations for there to be a 'right' way.

Leftielefterson · 03/07/2019 19:31

Every night now because I’m plastering her in spf all day and it’s the only way to get it off her. She loves a bath so I’m going to add it to the nightly routine.

crispysausagerolls · 03/07/2019 19:32

It depends if your toddler likes baths! DS LOVES his bath and hs never missed a night; it’s part of his routine, he needs a proper wash at the end of the day and it gets him settled before bed. I would feel very weird not doing it.

Sweetooth92 · 03/07/2019 19:32

I’m amazed people have toddlers who can get away without one daily. My son is 18 months and is usually a crusty snotty filthy mess come bedtime. No amount of wipes are cleaning him up and removing the nursery grime and paint and dinner and god knows what else! Maybe mine is just extra grotty 🤷🏼‍♀️

crispysausagerolls · 03/07/2019 19:35

Sweetooth92

It’s not just yours!

offfjoseph · 03/07/2019 19:37

My kids are absolutely filthy and vile by the end of the day. They pretty much need power hosed down by bed time! I showed them every night. That way they go to bed nice and clean and comfortable. A shower literally takes a few minutes

Sweetooth92 · 03/07/2019 20:09

@crispysausagerolls glad to hear it! Always amazes me when I see posts like this/the is it ok for my child to re wear today’s clothes and I’m like how is this an option?!

LuannC · 03/07/2019 20:44

Every 3 days unless are Ill, sweaty, dirty!

myself2020 · 03/07/2019 20:48

I wash mind with a flannel daily. bath once or twice per week.
They get thoroughly dirty, but a flannel cleans them just as well, and wastes much less water.

Picegina · 03/07/2019 20:51

I do bath my son every night, as it is part of the routine and does help settle him for the night unless we arrive late from somewhere out ot he is ill. Missing one is ok every now and then but I join the others, he is usually in need of a good bath especially after dinner. (Wear today's clothes tomorrow? No chance...sometimes needs a change during the day.) So bathtime is not stressful for us.

Shootingstar1115 · 03/07/2019 20:54

My kids get bathed every night here. The get so dirty outside playing, whilst eating and when it’s sunny it’s sun cream and sweat that need washing off. If they didn’t get do grubby I would bathe them less but right now they need a daily bath. My daughter even had two today 🤣 we went to the beach and had chocolate ice cream so I give her an early bath then she wanted another when he older brother had one.

I like them being freshly bathed and in clean pyjamas before getting in their bed sheets.

It’s also good routine for them and settles them down before bed.

MerryDeath · 03/07/2019 20:57

i do in the summer/particularly if he's had sunblock on. he showers now which is amazing! i wouldn't religiously the rest of the time but most night i do.

CampingUnderOakTrees · 03/07/2019 22:08

I do. Mine get so dirty. Age 1 and 3. They are always outdoors and we live near a beach and lots of countryside so they are seriously in need of washing by the end of the day. Mud, leaves, woodchip, sand, stones, food! Both at very outdoorsy childcare settings too. Also sunscreen? Have to wash that stuff off.

Frankola · 03/07/2019 22:19

I bathe my 2 year old every night as part of her bedtime routine.

I do think it also helps to instill good hygiene habits in children from an early age.

Paigexx · 03/07/2019 22:58

My daughter is only 4 month old but I do bath her every night I just see it as well I shower every night so why shouldn’t I bathe her every night? 🙄

Paigexx · 03/07/2019 22:59

Also starts her into a bedtime routine and baths make her a little more sleepy

MrsMas · 04/07/2019 07:57

We usually do every other day as we have active messy garden playing rain or shine 2yo but he's loving the novalty of the shower atm which is great. Thinks it's fireman Sam's hose

SinisterBumFacedCat · 04/07/2019 08:51

I used to bath my DS everyday, then he started to suffer with eczema, Dr said reduce the baths. It worked. Water is not great for dry skin. My DS’s skin now is in a much better condition now than mine was at his age and I was bathed a lot.

mindproject · 04/07/2019 08:58

I bathed mine every other day. She wasn't a big fan of baths, she still isn't.

Lumene · 04/07/2019 09:08

YANBU. Baths every day can irritate some skins.
