Following on from this -it was just getting interesting. Someone posted about how Meghan called herself a feminist but hadn’t earned the title. I was interested to know how you earned the title- but the thread ended.

Oh, I forgot to mention that not being feminist or confident enough is also a stick to beat her with!

No, it's proclaiming yourself to be a feminist, using the feminist label in PR events and to raise your profile but then choosing to live a life that is the complete opposite.....whilst still preaching it.

BertrandRussell · 08/07/2019 16:50

Usually on Mumsnet feminists get pilloried for suggesting that someone isn’t a feminist if they say they are.....

@MauritiusNext
Your accusing me of only seeing race, don’t tell me you’re “colour blind”...
You seem obsessed with my views🤷🏽‍♀️

LaurieMarlow · 08/07/2019 16:58

Also, does one act bar you from being a feminist? Surely we all make mistakes?

LaMarschallin · 08/07/2019 16:58

Still jogging along at the side of this thread (obviously interested enough to read two threads about H&M. Not the shop; the royal family members. It saves me money on trashy magazines).

Just a quick plea to Bertrand.

You use a dash to hyphenate your sentences a lot. Please could you put a space before the dash. At the moment, things read (for example):

I care about Meghan specifically, because it is fascinating to watch how British people- both real people and the press- deal with her. I have many theories.

when

would jar my eyeballs less.

I doubt you'll change and I'll carry on reading these threads with interest.
I just feel better for having mentioned it.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 08/07/2019 16:58

I didn't object to black and white pics - only ones where half his face couldn't be seen - couldn't see the point of that tbh, might as well have not bothered. I also have no interest in godparents, but I think it's weird that they make a point of saying that they won't say who the godparents are.

The class thing is interesting. I think foreigners actually get an easier time than Brits wrt this. MM is outside of our class system, whereas Kate Middleton is very easily categorised. William's friends were apparently very scathing about her middle class origins - these are the people who think they are higher up the good chain than the actual queen. MM might escape that a bit. If she encounters racism I think it is more likely to come from Harry's social class than ours.

Grin I’ll try - I don’t do it on purpose, I promise!

What did she lie about?

JaimeBronde · 08/07/2019 17:11

Maybe Meghan meant she didn't know who she was going on a blind date with until she met Harry.
Or simply she didn't know him only knew of him?

LaMarschallin · 08/07/2019 17:14

@BertrandRussell

Excellent!

I thought you'd get the joke.

And you did Smile

Many others would have told me to eff the eff off. Or something witty.

Despite you being all Jeremy Paxman-y, I do enjoy your posts.

Redglitter · 08/07/2019 17:16

Youd think Harry would know enough about the media to know that the whole 'were not telling you' route merely generates more interest. They'd actually get more privacy if they were more open.

If they'd said who the Godparents were it would have been of interest for 30 seconds instead days later the christening & the mysterious GPs are still in the news. Ofcourse that could have been the plan all along

Doxxing is against talk guidelines Shock

BertrandRussell · 08/07/2019 17:23

“Was that the 'it's different in America we haven't really heard of the royal family I didn't know who he was' guff?”
She said “in the states you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the royal family” “I didn’t know much about him”

Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

I'm really sorry; maybe I'm not getting the joke this time.

I meant that the poster I was replying to reminded me - in their style on this particular thread - of Jeremy Paxman. Occasionally.

I really didn't mean to be nasty to them or anything.

DidItAgainOops · 08/07/2019 17:30

You weren’t at all @LaMarschallin! Your exchange with Bertrand tickled me so I just made a little bad joke that Bertrand actually really is JP...

LaMarschallin · 08/07/2019 17:39

@DidItAgainOops

Good grief, I'm thick!

Sorry. It can be awfully easy round here to tread on people's corns and I so didn't want to (and I've only just found out what "doxxing" is. Thought it might be ruder).

Please may I help you on with your coat....?

But I'd rather you stick around. You're funny and bright and could teach me a thing or two 🙂

Well of course she didn’t have the same understanding, she grew up in another culture.

I would recognise an American footballer, might go and see a game if I was on holidays there, might even get a photo
