Has anyone been? Hoping to go later this year and although the good reviews massively outweigh the bad, all the bad ones mention over crowding. We'd be hoing around 2pm on a Wednesday for a couples massage, food and spa use.

I think you would be okay. We did a session about 11am-1pm on a Weds and it was fine, last August.

LIZS · 30/06/2019 21:46

Went last year. The middle floor has limited spaces in the different rooms. Be careful where you hang robe and slippers (don't leave anything in pockets) as they tend to get swapped. Was not too crowded in larger pools otherwise.

Whynotnowbaby · 30/06/2019 21:47

It’s been fine whenever I’ve been, I just find it very expensive but you know that already!

Sparklyring · 30/06/2019 21:52

@Whynotnowbaby it is expensive, is it worth it though?

We went last year in June, loved it

Whynotnowbaby · 30/06/2019 21:59

Yes for a special treat! Whenever I’ve been it has been a big birthday or other important event, I’d probably go if I was in Bath on holiday though and enjoy it as part of the whole holiday experience. I have really enjoyed it whenever I’ve been.

2015newstart · 30/06/2019 22:01

It's not as good as it used to be - they've completely changed one of the floors and it feels more cramped. IMO it's still worth it and I'll definitely go again, but I'd only go in a quiet time or you won't enjoy it. Midweek should be fine.

Alloftit · 30/06/2019 22:02

Oooh I went for my friends hen do last December, on a Saturday morning. It was wonderful. Go go go.

Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 30/06/2019 22:04

We went last year on a Friday afternoon in Feb. It was great! My dp isn't really a spa person (he bought it for me as a gift) but I struggled to get him out of the top floor pool. He particularly loved being in toasty water whilst only 5degrees.

Oh and the lazy river bit of the downstairs pool is good fun Grin

Sparklyring · 30/06/2019 22:49

I think we'll go for it! We're only in Bath for 2 days on our way down to Cornwall and I really fancied it. Thank you all.

It’s lovely
Don’t rate the treatment much i think they are overpriced and but the roof top pool in the warm weather is amazing place to be

Titsywoo · 30/06/2019 23:03

I hated it. Loads of people and mainly couples cuddling and snogging. Felt like a massive orgy was about to start Grin. We stayed in the hotel opposite and thry have a gorgeous spa that doesn't get overcrowded. It's called the Gainsborough.

AliTheMinx · 30/06/2019 23:05

Yes. I got engaged in the rooftop pool! We live near Bath so have been a few times. I'd say it's a little bit tired now, although I think they were/are renovating parts. It's still a lovely experience. Midweek should be fine. The main over crowding is always on weekends when hoardes of hen parties descend! Mid-week is much quieter - and they have a nice Twilight Package too. Have a wonderful time!

Spanielmadness · 30/06/2019 23:07

I think all Uk spas are overpriced, bath particularly so. Get a cheap flight to Europe and go to a spa where they do it properly.

Sparklyring · 30/06/2019 23:47

@Titsywoo The Gainsborough looks amazing!

Bailbrook Lodge is a lovely little hotel a short walk from the town centre and they do very reasonable packages including the thermae spa. Champagne breakfast too 🍾

nokidshere · 30/06/2019 23:58

The Gainsborough hotel spa is amazing!

GroggyLegs · 01/07/2019 00:08

@Spanielmadness - I love that idea, any tips?!

We went to the thermae in Bath and it snowed really heavily - the rooftop pool in thick snow was AMAZING. Obviously thats a bit niche but the treatment was good and we had a good afternoon overall.

Birdshitbridgegotme · 01/07/2019 00:25

Expensive but totally worth it imo. Very crowded but alot of space so wasnt a problem

Hmmmmmmum · 01/07/2019 07:19

It's a great experience and fun.
But it isn't a relaxing spa day. I've been 3 times and it was very crowded each time.
Lots of people walking around up and down stairs to the different areas.

YouWhoNeverArrived · 01/07/2019 07:23

DH and I got married on a Sunday, and didn't fly off on honeymoon until the Wednesday morning, and the Thermae spa is what we did to fill one of those two days in-between. We really loved it, as newlyweds. We were there on a weekday afternoon, though, so it didn't feel too crowded. I would certainly go again.

User8888888 · 01/07/2019 07:27

For me, it was fun in a group but isn’t a relaxing, luxury spa. It felt very busy and a bit like going into a public pool. I’ve been a few times but wouldn’t go out of my way to go back.

ThomasRichard · 01/07/2019 08:36

It’s more like a (nice) public swimming pool than a proper spa, just with more ‘heavy petting’ going on. As long as you go with that in mind then you won’t be disappointed. The view from the rooftop pool is ace and it’s quite fun to know that the water is naturally heated. I recommend going to the Roman baths first to set the scene.

modgepodge · 01/07/2019 08:40

I went on Valentine’s Day one year - very busy! Also went midweek in school holidays and it was ok. tbh it’s not my top choice of activity, you can’t really chill with a book and I found it a bit dull. 2 hours was plenty!! Thats just my personal opinion though, not anything wrong with the spa.

wafflethewonderdog · 01/07/2019 09:00

I went about 7 years ago, one evening in February. I thought it was amazing - great being outside in the dark in the rooftop pool, being able to see across the city. Don't think it would be as good during the day.
