I go to noisy small gigs lots and I'm 47, usually the oldest woman there. I feel sorry for the girls I see there enjoying themselves who will eventually be policed into stopping doing what they love by tedious and rather sad older women who can't deploy a bit of imagination and resent people who are different.

cantfindname · 29/06/2019 18:12

I'm 66 and would LOVE to go!!

Harpingon · 29/06/2019 18:12

I went when I was 20, back of a van with a band, got out before the fence and ran across a field and got in under it, slept in the van a field a tent saw amazing bands with thousands of people my age. No photos, drank warm beer not prossecco with straws. It's a money making thing now taken over by the BBC etc. The youth cannot afford to go unless the are from well off family's. Its sad.

BestIsWest · 29/06/2019 18:13

Ageism on Mumsnet again. Who would have thought it?

monkeytimesthree · 29/06/2019 18:13

@PolkadotLollipop ALL for the gram.

YABU. I'm still a semi-regular at Donington, and I'm the wrong side of 40. And judging by my own experiences, there are a lot of us.

SkintAsASkintThing · 29/06/2019 18:15

I went to see Metallica recently and there were loads of people in their 60s and 70s having a whale of a time.

Are we.ever too old to enjoy the music or things we love ? 🤔

TomKittensMumisaFruitloop · 29/06/2019 18:16

Any festival involving camping, loud music and loads of people is my idea of hell but you like what you like regardless of age.

Music doesn’t have an age. Anyone can enjoy anything at any time.

Tallgreenbottle · 29/06/2019 18:16

The diversity there is representative of the music fans and also the population as a whole tbh OP. It is a white middle class festival. Look at the line up. It is going to be mostly filled with white middle class people 😂 It is as popular as it is because the white middle classes are the largest demographic in the UK Hmm

It's not a state run event 😂 it is allowed to have a target market, that market is allowed to be white. It is a total non issue.

I'd love to go.

White, working class and no Instagram!

RaininSummer · 29/06/2019 18:20

Blimey. I went in 1981 and would love to go again if I could have time off work and could afford it. Wouldn't be keen on the queues and my arthritis might make camping hard but I love the festival feeling. Catching up with some bands on TV now. My daughter might be a bit fazed if I went as its now her thing.

GimmieTheCoffeeAndNooneDies · 29/06/2019 18:20

For all those people shouting racist at the OP, maybe they would like to consider why almost the entire audience at Gasto is white.

StoorieHoose · 29/06/2019 18:22

Kylie is a fucking legend and deserves to be playing the legends slot.

Have you been to Glastonbury OP?

Allhailthesun · 29/06/2019 18:22

LaurieMarlow not saying people can’t do whatever they want. The point is people do things because they feel they they are missing out. Not because they have any interest in long distance running, mountain climbing or popular music. Are you saying Glastonbury doesn’t have kudos for white middle class people?

“Sea of white faces” Peoole are arguing this the wrong way round. Stormz can play to whoever he wants. It’s noticeable that black faces are missing at Glastonbury though.

ilovesooty · 29/06/2019 18:24

Tragic?
Don't be ridiculous. Stupid point of view.

monkeytimesthree · 29/06/2019 18:27

@Allhailthesun is arguing more articulately than me. This is exactly it.

How do you know what people have an interest in? I don’t think you’re in any position to speak for other people. Concentrate on yourself and what you want to do.

Smokeonthewater · 29/06/2019 18:27

You sound really bitter and twisted. If people want to go to a festival at any age, good on them!

Emmapeeler · 29/06/2019 18:28

The Eavis family don’t seem to think so. Hmm

monkeytimesthree · 29/06/2019 18:28

@StoorieHoose kylie is NOT a legend.

No and I won't be going either. I did festivals when I was in my twenties before I had a mobile phone and it wasn't about "the experience".

Thank goodness you’re here OP to share the vastness of your wisdom of doing things The Correct Way.

Stormzy took the gig knowing that the core demographic of Glastonbury is white middle class indie/rock music fans though. That is the audience that the band's attract - just like Knebworth attract heavy metal fans
