My beloved Bosch of 10 years has shit the bed.

I'm tempted to just get another one but would like to canvas opinions.

I'm in the States so also have GE, Electrolux and other brands the UK might not have if anyone wants to chip in with those too.

I'm prepared to spend quite a bit, I do probably at least one load a day and use it for hand wash stuff a lot too.

A Miele or an AeG are built to last, according to my parents.

plobsalt · 29/06/2019 15:50

Ahh they sell Miele here but they're like hen's teeth and the places I can find them say 'call for best price' when they have all the other prices missing lol! I'll call just to get a shock.

*all other prices listed.

Recently bought a Bosch ecosilence. Came out one of the best in which. It's perfect, don't even know it's one, cleans so much better than my old Samsung

justilou1 · 29/06/2019 16:01

Bosch is fab

GreenGrowTheRushesOhh · 29/06/2019 16:02

Miele is definitely, hands down the best.

If it’s out of your price range, I’d go for Bosch/Siemens. I love my Bosch.

plobsalt · 29/06/2019 16:26

I don't mind paying a lot for one. The lower range Miele is coming in at around £1180 pounds and the highest range Bosch at about £1000.

I don't feel like I need the higher range Miele to be WiFi and have the duel dispenser system thingy. I'm perfectly capable of putting liquid in each time lol!

Miele

DontCallMeShitley · 29/06/2019 16:31

This time last year I searched the internet for a decent machine after having Bosch 3 times in a row, the last one was rubbish so was going to try something else.

I looked at Which and found most of them had no reviews, however I was looking for one that was less eco friendly as I wanted one that rinsed properly which is as rare as hens teeth.

I read reviews, not from companies that sell them as they all tend to say how great they are and I know from experience that a bad review is never published, but from independent sites.

A lot of the sites I found were in the US and were favourable for top loaders for washing and rinsing, we don't have many options in the UK for top loaders. I am assuming you are looking for a FL machine rather than a TL? Otherwise have you looked at White Knight or similar?

I was taken in by the reviews for Samsung before I found the bad reviews for Samsung. I had to Google the problem before the many bad ones appeared in search. The machines have a rep for not staying in place and the one I had tried to leave the house. It was rebalanced, recalibrated, double and triple checked and finally returned for an exchange.

I now have yet another Bosch. I always choose a larger capacity drum so I can wash duvets and larger loads. This machine is meant to use more water to rinse, has aqua plus in fact, and an allergy wash. However it produces a build up of soap around the door. I alternate washes with detergent, followed by no detergent. No modern machine rinses.

Spending more does not give you quality these days, all machines are intended to last 5 years maybe 7 if you are lucky.

Having said that, my research indicated that Beko would be good value, rinse well and have a large capacity, plus an allergy setting. Sadly it also required different fittings on the pipes so was returned before I had a chance to find out.

Sorry for the essay. Read reviews, and Google faults for any machine you like the look of, check for anything that is important to you because the modern machines are nowhere near as good as the ones from 10 years ago.

DontCallMeShitley · 29/06/2019 16:36

Also look up which country they are made in and try to avoid too many bells and whistles, most are not needed, and it is more to go wrong. Search out sites that may not appear on the first page of your searches and read everything you can.

Bosch is pretty good, I had good results with them. I have to say, every LG appliance I've had has been fantastic quality and value for money. . .

plobsalt · 29/06/2019 17:20

@DontCallMeShitley thanks! I had a horrible feeling the quality would have gone down over the years as it has with most things. Sad

I really want a HE (energy efficient low water machine) as we're on a septic that's finding life hard with our current HE machine. Adding more water to it could be disastrous!

The Mieles are putting me off a little with their tons of bells and whistles and electrics I have to say.

OP posts:
plobsalt · 29/06/2019 17:22

I mean obviously it's going to be electric lol. I'm not quite up for a wash board and mangle!

But the electric dispensing systems seem a little unneeded and another thing to go wrong.

We don't have the option of getting things fixed if they go wrong so reliability and long life is the most important!

I just can't get around to top loaders. Most of my friends have them but I think they don't do them with the low water...

plobsalt · 29/06/2019 17:22

We have an LG fridge and dishwasher and they've both been great.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 29/06/2019 17:23

We have a Miele 9kg and it is wonderful. It can take duvets, dog beds, all the laundry you can shake a stick at and never once conks out. The fancy stuff is a bit ott, but you can ignore that and just do your usual washes and be fine.

Madbengalmum · 29/06/2019 17:25

Had both Bosch and Miele, sould go for a top of the range Bosch over Miele any day. I love the pause option Bosch offers for those clothes you either drop on the way to the machine or forget to put in, i really am not a fan of miele anything and i have owned everything including dishwashers, steam ovens and coffee machines, and all had issues.

plobsalt · 29/06/2019 17:26

I'm having to reach in and hand pump the water out three times every load. That's worked for a few months but now it's taking a whole day to do a load and I have scars on my arm from the pumping!

I bloody over it!!!

OP posts:
plobsalt · 29/06/2019 17:27

@Madbengalmum wait, what?! The Miele doesn't have a pause function??????

OP posts:
DontCallMeShitley · 29/06/2019 17:48

I think all machines have to be HE now, which is why none of them rinse properly.

I ended up with Bosch again because it is still a reasonable machine, mid range one as I wanted the larger drum and allergy setting. Some models are better than others. I have Vario Perfect (again) but my older ones were the logik (or whatever it was) and were much better.

I looked at Miele but really, all those extra settings - why?? And interestingly those were the ones that were in the sale, so either returns/rejects or not up to standard or just not popular, so many of the same make, it made me very wary.

I still wish I could have had the BEKO but the company couldn't be bothered to fit it so lost the sale.

My last Bosch gradually ground almost to a halt, and no more can the bearings or brushes be replaced, they have ensured that the entire machine has to be scrapped now. I used to pour jugs of hot water into mine as the heater broke, it still washed, but in the end I was tired of soggy floors and wet feet where I missed the drawer.

See if you can find out which companies encompass various makes, there are only a few left now after being taken over. Beko is made somewhere like Turkey whereas many others are made in Poland/Chec etc. and then you have Korean ones.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 29/06/2019 17:54

My Miele seems to be indestructable, and I've never needed any repairs in 20 years. There's a reason they are often in Old People Homes. But if you really can't get your hands on one, I'm just rubbing it in, sorry Grin

plobsalt · 29/06/2019 17:59

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants does it have a pause function so you can throw in stuff after it's started?

OP posts:
trackingmedown · 29/06/2019 18:10

My Miele doesn’t have a pause function (but it is very old so maybe new ones do), however you can cancel a wash and restart it.

plobsalt · 29/06/2019 18:12

Hmm.

The bummer about a Bosch is that we'd have to get an electrician out to wire a 240 outlet in. Fucking bloody hell.

OP posts:
SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 29/06/2019 18:12

No pause, sadly. But it is old, and will not die, so maybe newer models do? Ah, see Tracking has the same thing.

Lllot5 · 29/06/2019 18:13

My Samsung eco bubble is great. Good spin and not too many unnecessary programmes.
