My beloved Bosch of 10 years has shit the bed.

I'm tempted to just get another one but would like to canvas opinions.

I'm in the States so also have GE, Electrolux and other brands the UK might not have if anyone wants to chip in with those too.

I'm prepared to spend quite a bit, I do probably at least one load a day and use it for hand wash stuff a lot too.

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best washing machine page with lots of great options loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

This is going to sounds weird but I sometimes suffer from OCD and having something not in the wash when I forgot it can send me right over the edge! I'll just have to be careful to check and recheck for any stays. Blush

LG 12kg. I love mine so much- which beat buy. This is my second LG. First one lasted 10 years. Do 3 loads a day

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 29/06/2019 18:17

LG has a pause. Very handy

Stargirl90 · 29/06/2019 18:42

Miele for sure, or Siemens if not

MissConductUS · 29/06/2019 19:05

Miele, by a mile. I'm on my second (first lasted 19 years of daily use) and would never buy anything else. They're the Mercedes-Benz of washers.

plobsalt · 29/06/2019 19:15

@MissConductUS does it have a pause button so you can open the door mid wash? (I'm getting unreasonably worried about this Grin)

OP posts:
plobsalt · 29/06/2019 19:16

Just heard from dealer. Miele has no pause function. What the actual fuck?!

OP posts:
MissConductUS · 29/06/2019 19:21

No pause. I don't know how you would open the door with water in the drum. You can cancel and it will pump out the water and let you start again.

It's never been a problem thb. If I forget something it just goes in the hamper for the next load.

HappydaysArehere · 29/06/2019 19:26

I was looking at Miele but their weight put me off. There have been times when my washing machine has needed moving and the weight of aMiele is too much. I said what about having to pull it out and the salesman said you don’t as front comes off.

LakieLady · 29/06/2019 19:26

Spending more does not give you quality these days, all machines are intended to last 5 years maybe 7 if you are lucky.

My Bosch is 12 years old. Does this mean my next one won't be as good?

plobsalt · 29/06/2019 19:33

The Bosch opens immediately. It doesn't use much water so it's always lower than the door.

Topseyt · 29/06/2019 19:37

Bosch for me. My last one lasted 15 years.

Current one is three years old and going well. It is the ecosilent drive. It does have a pause function, which is very useful.

KeepHimJolene · 29/06/2019 19:38

My Miele is 20yr years old, had one repair and at 14yrs old (when repaired) had clocked up the Miele equivalent of 22yrs of washes. I would never choose anything else they are brilliant for families.

SeaSidePebbles · 29/06/2019 19:42

The best one money can buy is definitely a Miele. It is an awful lot of money, but they last for a very long time.
I have a TwinDos, I use most of the functions, a load every day for washing and drying. It’s amazing.

cadburyegg · 29/06/2019 20:01

We have a Samsung ecobubble, love it.

Bought it last year after the Bosch died - only had that 3 years. Never again!

Blitheringheights · 29/06/2019 20:04

Also changed a Bosch for a Samsung ecobubble, LOVE it.

funmummy48 · 29/06/2019 20:06

Another vote for the Samsung Ecobubble. I love mine!

EdithWeston · 29/06/2019 20:10

My Bosch lasted 20+ years and I've recently replaced it with another one.

It might be worth getting a subscription to Which? magazine. Only fivers brands available in UK, but it carries out its own performance tests so is way more useful than most review sites

trilbydoll · 29/06/2019 20:15

We've got a Samsung, not one of the £££ ones, but I'm very pleased with it so far. A more expensive model had a little mini door so you could add forgotten items.

AgentJohnson · 29/06/2019 20:17

If I had the cash I’d go for a Miele but I don’t so I have gone for Siemens. Every manufacturer has so many models that you’ll find something with thought function combo to fit your needs. My second hand Miele top loader just died but I was planning on upgrading anyway and even though it didn’t have a dedicated pause button, you could pause it by just turning it of and opening the door. The programme would restart as soon as you turned it on again.

I use powder so self dosing models didn’t interest me but the steam function on my Siemens is the best.

serenoa · 29/06/2019 20:20

Definitely Miele. I've had mine eight years and it's not given me the slightest bit of trouble. I'm not sure whether you'd call it a bells and whistles machine; I like that a light comes on when I've overdosed the detergent and need to do another rinse cycle, and when the machine needs a 90 degree non-bio wash to clean it out after a series of bio low temperature washes. The handwash programme looks after the most delicate fabrics, there's other options that are very useful

It was a then-recently discontinued model from the 'W' range at a great price at the time my old AEG gave finally up the ghost. it's quiet and does its job well without me noticing it. I'd have paid more for it.

DontCallMeShitley · 29/06/2019 22:31

@LakieLady, our previous Bosch lasted a good while as did the second, but the third packed up after 3 years. I am hoping to get 5 out of the new one as they are no longer made in Germany and the quality isn't as good.

Samsung Ecobubble has an issue with jumping around if it is not on a solid concrete floor according to many of the comments and complaints I read when ours shifted alarmingly in a few minutes and only stopped when I turned it off, it travelled the full length of the hose and then started going round in circles. The engineers were unable to rectify it, neither could they stop it from shaking the entire house and causing things to fall off worktops.

sheepysheep · 29/06/2019 23:07

My Miele doesn’t have a pause button - you just open the door to add extra things. However it doesn’t allow the door to release after a certain time - not sure if that’s because of water temperature or drum fullness.

sheepysheep · 29/06/2019 23:10

Oh and it’s indestructible - husband is a farmer / ag engineer so he is perpetually filthy and our two boys are feral and get their clothes very dirty. The machine is on every day and has never let me down...
It was expensive but it also came with a ten year guarantee so I think it was worth it...

FermatsTheorem · 29/06/2019 23:11

My experience is that Bosch have gone downhill in terms of quality. I now have a (bottom of the range) Miele. I love it.

On the short cycle (works for everything except DS's rugby kit), the water level stays below the door so you can open it at any point and add the stray sock that escaped half way down the stairs.

Yes, it defaults to eco washes, but you can add extra water/pre-wash/rinses.
