My beloved Bosch of 10 years has shit the bed.

I'm tempted to just get another one but would like to canvas opinions.

I'm in the States so also have GE, Electrolux and other brands the UK might not have if anyone wants to chip in with those too.

I'm prepared to spend quite a bit, I do probably at least one load a day and use it for hand wash stuff a lot too.

AEG were bought out by Electrolux many years ago. I was an AEG diehard fan but no longer.

@rslsys Maytag are still huge here. I've no experience with them so am a little shy.

I know my next one is going to have the wee window in the door so I can pop the dropped socks and undies in after the cycle starts. Also NEVER getting a bloody washer dryer combo. Those bastards take forever!

Definitely Miele. Mine is now twelve years old. If you can afford the initial outlay it is worth it.

Miele, bought on 10-year warranty from John Lewis in 2000. It survived a move to Australia and two house later moves but some vital bits rusted at last.

The Au fitters were amazed that anyone would offer a ten-year warranty. Shock

Bought a new one and all good. Being in a wooden house, it's on marine ply base to stop it walking. I no longer think of the noise because, like all Aussie houses, the machine is in the laundry so can be safely ignored.

Miele all the way. Hang on....no timer,so I can't set it to come on when leccy is cheapest.

Have had our Miele for 13 years. No problem very quiet and energy-efficient low water use. Fell out of love with Bosch, quality has declined.

There's no timer on mine but there is a delay function. I can postpone the start of a cycle by up to 23 and a half hours in 30 minute increments. So setup the cycle at 8:00 PM, delay by 6 hours and it'll run at 1:00 AM. I have the cheapest Miele so you may have this function too.

If Miele is hard to get in America, I imagine that it is like in Australia, when things go wrong, parts have to be imported and it takes forever. I’d think about that one carefully. (Miele isn’t impossible to get here at all, but they are ridiculously expensive. My personal experience with Miele is hit and miss, tbh. Have had some very reliable appliances, some less so. Had an entirely Miele kitchen and that was a total nightmare.)

Pmspiers7 · 02/07/2019 01:14

If you are wanting a reliable and long lasting washing machine you should get a Miele you pay a bit more but are built like a tank and are tested to last 20 years I should know I work in a large electrical department if you can’t afford a Miele I would go for a Siemens hope that helps

My Samsung one plays the most annoying fucking song when it finishes. I have switched the stupid song off in the settings but my helpful husband switches it off at the wall every night so it doesn't remember not to play it.

I'm ranting but for the sake of your sanity, don't buy the singing Samsung.

QuestionableMouse · 02/07/2019 01:25

We use a Miele at work which gets absolutely hammered. It can be on constantly from morning to night, with everything from string mops to high viz jackets in there.

If it can stand up to that abuse it'll last in a normal family home.

Mine is a hot point and it's pretty good too.
