To feel the rage with “teacher tired” posts

Rainbowsandglitterbullshit · 28/06/2019 18:26

The season of teachers posting SM messages “no one knows tired like an end of term teacher/TA/dinner lady” is almost upon us.

I want to scream, what about the fuckers who work stupid hours all week and don’t get 6 weeks off in the summer, half term, two weeks Easter, two weeks at Christmas.

I wouldn’t be a teacher for all the tea in China but these people chose their career.

Grrr, actually don’t care if I’m BU.

I've never actually come across a post claiming that teachers are more tired than anybody else if I did then yes I'd feel like you do because other people work just as hard and don't get the long holidays.
However, if you're objecting to teachers expressing the fact that they're tired and looking forward to the end of term..... I see nothing wrong with that, we're all entitled to feel the way we feel. It isn't a contest is it?

Shayne11 · 28/06/2019 19:57

‘All teachers work over the summer holidays’

Yeah try 6 solid weeks like the rest of us !
Makes me laugh every year

Aragog · 28/06/2019 19:57

I can’t bear the FB gloating from every teacher at the start of the summer holidays.

But again, as said previously, this only happens because the people you know who are teachers are all having their holiday at the same time - so it seems like loads of posts about it. Whereas lots of other non-teachers do the same about holidays, but its spread out throughout the summer, not just all at the same time.

Witchtower · 28/06/2019 19:57

I think most jobs are tiring and stressful, but aren’t we all allowed to have a moan once in a while?

The main issue with teacher bashing is that most think teachers are not allowed to be tired as they get so many holidays, unpaid may I add.

Teaching is a profession which never ends. It is mentally draining as well. Dealing with children who have mental health problems, are on the children in need register, children who come with a very sad story.
You carry their pain everyday.
The impossible demanding deadlines.
No funding
Shite pay

I really could go on.

Just remember teachers do not choose this profession for money. They do it as it’s their passion. Unfortunately a passion which is slowly being killed by various barriers which are being put up.

Everyone is allowed to moan at how stressful their job is. Don’t moan about others moaning 😂

herculepoirot2 · 28/06/2019 20:00

And I never worked during the summer holidays. Just saying. But then, I really needed the break. 😂

flumposie · 28/06/2019 20:00

My non teaching sister in law has matched every holiday that I've had this year with the same time off. Difference is she didn't do any work during her 'holiday' ...

mumsneedwine · 28/06/2019 20:01

I thought a lot of people had a 2 week holiday in the summer ? Like me.

The difference at this time of the year, at senior school at least, is the kids are ready to finish. This causes behaviour to dip and managing reluctant kids is not easy. Ever tried to coax a teen to do something they don't want to do ? Multiply that by 100 and that's been my day. I've been a social worker, counsellor, advocate with parent and emotional support today, on top of the teaching. So I'm a little bit tired. As are other people in mother jobs.

www.tes.com/news/teaching-one-most-stressful-jobs-britain

“Teaching is among the most stressful jobs you can do in Britain, according to new health and safety statistics.

The latest figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) show that in the teaching profession there were 2,460 cases of work-related stress per 100,000 workers.

This was twice the average rate across all industries of 1,230 cases per 100,000 workers in the three-year period averaged over 2014-15 to 2016-17”

Rainbowsandglitterbullshit · 28/06/2019 20:02

The post my OP was referring to said, no one knows tired like end of term teacher tired! That’s what gives me the rage. Not saying teachers don’t work hard, but so do a lot of professions who don’t get 13 weeks holiday a year!

OP posts:
BoneyBackJefferson · 28/06/2019 20:02

Yabbers

That’s not at all uncommon in the world of work.

Ah yes, the real world, where if you get sworn at, attacked, molested, sexually harassed etc. the person gets fired.

If only schools were more like the real world.

herculepoirot2 · 28/06/2019 20:03

The post my OP was referring to said, no one knows tired like end of term teacher tired! That’s what gives me the rage. Not saying teachers don’t work hard, but so do a lot of professions who don’t get 13 weeks holiday a year!

But with respect, isn’t that what they're saying? That you think it’s the same, but it isn’t?

BoneyBackJefferson · 28/06/2019 20:03

Rainbowsandglitterbullshit

Not saying teachers don’t work hard, but so do a lot of professions who don’t get 13 weeks holiday a year!

And you won't find a teacher that disagrees with you.

Sparklesocks · 28/06/2019 20:05

It’s not a competition, just because a teacher says they’re busy/tired doesn’t mean you can’t possibly be those things too - don’t worry, there’s plenty of fatigue to go around!

The fact is there are always people who have it easier than you, and there are always who have it much harder.

Itellpeopletogoogleit · 28/06/2019 20:05

Generalising is such an issue here. Not all teachers share these memes and I bet the ones that do have lots of teacher friends on their social media and it's a joke amongst them. I'd be interested to know what your job is, OP.

Secondly, teachers are individuals and not defined by their profession. They're not all the same!

Thirdly, not all teachers do their job in the same way; it depends largely on policies within their school, whether they teach primary, secondary or sixth form. The PP who said their three kids brought home the same hand out so that must mean the teacher can't have loads of planning - why do you think they reuse them? Work smarter, not harder and all that!

Some people on here live in their own little outraged bubble but would it hurt to consider that everyone thinks their life is difficult and by sharing those feelings it doesn't mean yours is easy.

Life's short, don't be a dick!

BoneyBackJefferson · 28/06/2019 20:06

Shayne11

Yeah try 6 solid weeks like the rest of us !

Yeah, cos you don't get evenings and weekends off, its solid fucking graft all day all of the time.

Try again.

LittleDoritt · 28/06/2019 20:07

My husband was a sixth form teacher for years and did this "woe is me, I'm so tiiiiired" shit every July. Now he works in a ten hours a day, 20 days holiday a year job and I think the penny may have finally dropped.

Liverbird77 · 28/06/2019 20:07

I've quit teaching after 14 years. Before teaching I was in journalism, which is a tough job with fewer holidays. I have also worked behind bars, as a silver service waitress, cleaner etc.
I can honestly say I have never known the tiredness I felt, even as an established teacher with lots of experience. It was crushing and relentless. And for anyone banging on about holidays, the salary is split over 52 weeks. Also, teachers go in early, have no lunchtime to themselves, stay late and have to use a lot of their own time in planning and prep. Furthermore, they face abuse that wouldn't be tolerated in any other workplace. They deserve every day of that holiday.

CandlesOnTheHearth · 28/06/2019 20:07

I worked in another industry before teaching and in pre-uni jobs before that, and there was always a toilet you could hide in

Or shredding you can do. Or just something that is part of your job but that is slightly less demanding for 10 mins to give yourself a bit of headspace.

bourbonbiccy · 28/06/2019 20:08

I don't think you are being unreasonable. There are many jobs that are just as, if not more stressful with just a big of a work load, that you take home with you and makes you not sleep at night, that then don't get all the Holidays

However that doesn't take way from the fact that they do have a big workload, it is a stressful job and the numbers of teachers are dropping dramatically again. We should all respect our teachers as they are educating the future,

I think it is that other professions don't complain as a mass industry/ role all together, especially on here, you don't see threads about how Finance Managers are over worked and all the stakeholders in the business treat them like shit, and the SLT shout at them and everyone should be more respectful.

I think also everybody has an opinion on teachers, as they have had some experience of dealing with a teacher so can have a personal experience to relate back to and everyone obviously knows what is acceptable treatment of their children ,so can have an opinion but they don't really see what happens behind closed doors.

Hateit · 28/06/2019 20:08

@Rainbowsandglitterbullshit I agree that they might not be any more tired than any other working professional but to then lower yourself to say that teachers aren't particularly intelligent is a low blow and pretty much turned me right off your original point.

Rainbowsandglitterbullshit · 28/06/2019 20:09

Do you think other professions don’t require you to go in early, stay late, miss lunch breaks?

As for the 7 days a week, bull shit!!

OP posts:
joystir59 · 28/06/2019 20:10

I teach sometimes. It completely wipes me out. Definitely one of the most tiring jobs ever. It is so intense!

chipscheesegravy · 28/06/2019 20:11

Completely agree OP! My teacher friend told me she couldn't meet up last week as it was manic and she had to stay until 5pm 😂

herculepoirot2 · 28/06/2019 20:11

Do you think other professions don’t require you to go in early, stay late, miss lunch breaks?

I’m sure they do, but the ones I have worked in didn’t also require me to go home and do three more hours’ work, and they didn’t require me to manage thirty other people (different sets of people) for five hours a day. Confused

Rainbowsandglitterbullshit · 28/06/2019 20:11

I didn’t say teachers weren’t particularly intelligent! Re read and understand correctly before slamming me! I’m very happy to be slammed for something I’ve said! I believe I mentioned my two friends who under their own admission are not Mensa material, I didn’t say ALL teachers were that way!
