Not to have realised until now that Joey Maynard’s ‘displaced organ’ was a prolapse?

I know there is or was an enormous Chalet School thread but I can’t spend six weeks trawling through that.

Fascinated to note (because I’ve been reading the complete synopses how all the CS women taken seriously ill either went straight to the San or journeyed - over days - for a consultation with Sir James Talbot. It was he who diagnosed said ‘displaced organ’. At which point Joey had iirc nine children. May be wrong, lost count.

(I read and reread the entire series over my first three decades.)

I like Reunion. In between all of the falling from cliffs and being rescued by hot doctors, I think one of the characters slaps a total stranger and gets away with it (that may be in another book), there’s a pleasingly bonkers interlude where someone gets stuck to a table cloth and an oblique reference to one of the characters stealing someone else’s man. There really is something for everyone. Grin

TrickyD · 02/07/2019 16:26

When the enormous CS thread was running, a lovely poster who had manually transcribed many of the books very kindly emailed them to me.

We became FB friends and she has since married and, not without difficulty, is now expecting twins. Probably won't run to eleven though. Who in their senses would?

If you are reading this, LibraryPre, hello, thanks and love. Smile

Dishclout · 02/07/2019 16:37

I think Margot slaps a panicking stranger across the face when the lift malfunctions, @Squirrel26. Then again, she was probably thrilled she was able to give expression to her violent streak with a semi-respectable excuse. And good practice for being a nun in my experience of teaching orders. Grin

Doesn’t one of the mistresses offer someone else in the lift tranquillisers immediately afterwards?

Squirrel26 · 02/07/2019 16:47

I think it’s the recipient of the slap who is offered the tranquilliser, Dishclout. Talk about victim blaming. Grin ‘Look, you made such a fuss I’ve had to slap you, and now you’re wasting my friend’s Valium.’

Ponders why they were walking around with a ready supply of tranquillisers anyway. Presumably because they all led such eventful lives. Possibly one of the reasons they all married doctors.

NewSchoolNewName · 02/07/2019 16:56

Margot has serious anger problems.

I’m sure I remember one book where she nearly kills a classmate because she has a temper tantrum and deliberately throws a bookend at her head. And then IIRC it all got smoothed over very quickly Shock Hmm
Blatant favouritism there, I bet she’d have been looking at expulsion if her mum wasn’t BFF with half the staff.

Cassie124 · 02/07/2019 17:00

Margot also got away with blackmailing another pupil IIRC

missyB1 · 02/07/2019 17:06

Actually Margot was a bit of a cow all the way through the books from spoilt diva toddler to bad tempered old boot at school. Gets away with being so aggressive by blaming the devil - yeah nice one Margot Hmm Mind you she had the nauseously irritating Len to put up with, little miss perfect would be enough to make me bad tempered and aggressive I expect!

NewSchoolNewName · 02/07/2019 17:15

They always made such a big deal out of Len being the oldest didn’t they?

Like that should make a difference to anything when they’re triplets!

Shelby1981 · 02/07/2019 19:22

@emerencealwayshopeful if you still have the link pleeeease could you send it to me? I'd be so grateful Smile

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 02/07/2019 19:33

No-one annoyed me more than Mary Lou.

I think I lost that comment on every Chalet School thread.😁

My mum read the books in the 40s and 50s and absolutely loved them. She really hesitated buying me the first book because she thought they would be dated. This was in the late 70s.

I fell in love with them and read them obsessively for many, many years. I didn't start to notice how annoying some of them were until I started rereading them about 15 years ago.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 02/07/2019 19:33

post not lost

Papergirl1968 · 02/07/2019 19:42

I have the one drive log in details. I’ve just checked and it still works. I’ll PM Shelby, Pencreed and BendingSpoons. Anyone else who wants them, let me know.

BendingSpoons · 02/07/2019 19:44

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Grin

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 02/07/2019 19:45

Can I have the One Drive details please.

Papergirl1968 · 02/07/2019 19:59

Yep, just sent it Around.

swampytiggaa · 02/07/2019 20:26

Could I have the one drive please? Had it before but lost it during a device change 🙂

Thank you

BertrandRussell · 02/07/2019 20:34

Could I have the details too? Not if it’s any bother......

TheStakeIsNotThePower · 02/07/2019 20:38

Oh wow could I also have the one drive? Used to have it but lost the details.

QuaterMiss · 02/07/2019 20:39

Happy sigh ...

@Papergirl1968, another one begging for the One Drive of CS books, if you would be so kind?

SweetestThing · 02/07/2019 20:51

I'd love the OneDrive link too, please .I've managed to amass a small collection of original versions through local vintage fairs, eBay and our local second hand book shops. Can't abide Mary Lou or Joey. Or the Robin. Stupid name too.

funnelfanjo · 02/07/2019 20:53

@Papergirl1968 i would love the link too please.

Flev · 02/07/2019 20:55

Please could I have the Onedrive details as well?

LaMarschallin · 02/07/2019 21:00

I used to belong to the Chalet School club back in pre-internet days.
I remember there being an article in one of the little magazines theorising that the middles had such a reputation for naughtiness because of "hormones". Being around 13-14 they might have starting periods etc (think gels were later starters then).

Funny. I never felt the slightest desire to turn anybody's hair white using cornflour when I first started. I'd have been a dead loss at the CS.

Tinyteatime · 02/07/2019 21:03

Ooo please could I have the onedrive details if it’s not too much trouble?
