Not to have realised until now that Joey Maynard’s ‘displaced organ’ was a prolapse?

I know there is or was an enormous Chalet School thread but I can’t spend six weeks trawling through that.

Fascinated to note (because I’ve been reading the complete synopses how all the CS women taken seriously ill either went straight to the San or journeyed - over days - for a consultation with Sir James Talbot. It was he who diagnosed said ‘displaced organ’. At which point Joey had iirc nine children. May be wrong, lost count.

(I read and reread the entire series over my first three decades.)

I’ll send out some more links to people later - I just looking for dd’s riding helmet!

ilovepixie · 05/07/2019 20:15

Thank you so much! That's my next few nights sorted.

cwg1 · 05/07/2019 21:09

Aroundtheworld Are the HarperCollins editions full copies? Alas, no. The hardback and Girls Gone By paperback editions both have the complete texts. AIUI, the various Armada and HC editions are all abridged to a greater or lesser extent. The only exception is the special edition of School At from Elinor's centenary in 1994. It has the full text, as well as featuring Nina Brisley's charming cover and spine illustrations.

I think the last person I sent to was ChiaraRimini.(wondering if that name is a Brideshead reference)

My brain is going round and round trying to think of a way of making sure we haven’t missed anyone.......

Just finished Gay from China- can’t decide which one to go for next.......

ddl1 · 05/07/2019 21:22

Another CS fan here! And yes, it must have been a prolapse. Hardly surprising really, for the mother of 11 children!

Jemima232 · 05/07/2019 21:34

@RobinHumphries

How's the lamb chop situation at your nunnery these days?

(When I was a Staff Nurse our Ward Sister was a nun and invited us to the nunnery for dinner. We were given 8 chops each. And that was just the Starter.

Nuns win hands down with eating Kuchen IMHO.)

Clankboing · 05/07/2019 21:39

@Papergirl1968 would you mind sending me the link please? I hardly dare admit that I had the whole lot and when I moved house I stupidly chucked them away :-( Why!?

Doubleraspberry · 05/07/2019 21:55

Robin you are great during the war! I always wished we heard more about you. You even stood up to Joey.

Ilikesweetpeas · 05/07/2019 21:58

@Papergirl1968 I'd also love the link if that's possible please? I have a few chalet school books. I love them!

Alicecooperslovechild · 05/07/2019 22:53

Please don't ask me how because I can't remember (Google could help) but I downloaded the ones from the OneDrive a few years ago, converted them to the right format (a free online program) and emailed them to my kindle email (who knew that I had one) and now have almost the entire series on Kindle - much more convenient than the hard copies which I have now lent to a friend's daughter.

StressToy · 05/07/2019 22:59

It wasn’t your fault @RobinHumphries. Everyone called you ‘the baby’ until you were in your teens, and thought you were about to expire every time you said you were tired. It does things to a girl.

Papergirl1968 · 05/07/2019 23:03

Bertrand, I’ve done everyone from ChiaraRimini to ilikesweetpeas.
Teamwork! 👍🏼

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 05/07/2019 23:26

I did have most of them downloaded to my Kindle but the last time I looked at OneDrive some of the books that had been there had mysteriously disappeared. Iirc almost the entire series was there originally apart from Jo To The Rescue and Mary-Lou. Are they all back again now?

I still have a lot on either Kindle or iBooks - some open better in one format or the other.

Doubleraspberry · 06/07/2019 08:09

I’m now getting a request to verify the One Drive account as ‘someone else may be using it’. Obviously can’t do that!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 06/07/2019 09:37

I got that too, Doubleraspberry and gave them an old email address. They are taking twenty-four hours to verify it.. 🤨

RoundingError · 06/07/2019 11:06

I’ve just been googling how to do this (there are some helpful YouTube videos), but it would require me having a laptop (which I don’t) on which to download and install calibre, and then using that to convert the files from calibre to mobi, and then having a way to get them to kindle that’s wireless (the YouTube guy used a wire from his laptop, but I don’t have that). If someone did have the tech to convert them to mobi, then they would work on iBooks and Kindles, I think.

I want to do this as dd would love to read them (she has a basic Kindle e-reader), but I’m not giving her my ipad to read them online for hours at a time!

missclimpson · 06/07/2019 11:17

I got the verification message Doubleraspberry but tried again and got in the second time. I am in France and thought at first it might be because my IP address is forrin', a refusal which would not be in the spirit of the Chalet School.

Apileofballyhoo · 06/07/2019 11:24

Ooh Missclimpson, I'm in Ireland and can't get in all. You've given me hope!

Apileofballyhoo · 06/07/2019 11:30

Nope, but I did get 'somebody might be using your account' before the verify your account message I usually get - which gives a choice of email or phone no to verify, with an option to choose 'I don't have these anymore'. I haven't chosen this in case it messes it up for everyone, I'm still hoping it will still just let me in!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 06/07/2019 12:01

Hmm...I'm in Ireland too, Apile.... I've stalled on this. It seems to want me to set up my own account. Boo! Let me in!

AngelaScandal · 06/07/2019 13:00

Would a kind Chaletian PM me over the one drive details. Bitte und Danke

Jemima v impressed at your Gaelic. Is that Scottish Gaelic?

AngelaScandal · 06/07/2019 13:01

ballyhoo and fuzzy

I wonder would a vpn help?

Parker231 · 06/07/2019 13:22

Please can I have the One Drive details. I’d love to read the books. Thank you

Howyoualldoworkme · 06/07/2019 13:30

Oh dear, I've been in the San and lost track of this thread! Could I please have the One Drive details too?
If you have Kindle Unlimited there are some ersatz Chalet books to read for free and also Jean of Storms. Some of them are very good, some not so much.
I have a pretty fair collection and my adult DS buys me some occasionally but I still have gaps in the story I need to read.
My late BF bequeathed me all her school story books but they're mostly Abbey Girls. Now there's a strange bunch!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 06/07/2019 13:44

What is a vpn, Angela?
