Not to have realised until now that Joey Maynard’s ‘displaced organ’ was a prolapse?

I know there is or was an enormous Chalet School thread but I can’t spend six weeks trawling through that.

Fascinated to note (because I’ve been reading the complete synopses how all the CS women taken seriously ill either went straight to the San or journeyed - over days - for a consultation with Sir James Talbot. It was he who diagnosed said ‘displaced organ’. At which point Joey had iirc nine children. May be wrong, lost count.

(I read and reread the entire series over my first three decades.)

It’s the crispy potato balls in melted butter that I always lusted after.

How did they all stay so ‘trim’ in that carby, fatty paradise Grin

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/07/2019 09:55

Nuts and honey aren't my favourite cakes, but I've had a variety.

(And although this is Germany .. I'm just off to the bakery to get some twists of bread).

BertrandRussell · 05/07/2019 09:58

I think I’ve now sent to everyone from (and including) pootiepie onwards. If i’ve missed anyone, pm me!

Doubleraspberry · 05/07/2019 10:04

My confession is that I have very often been disappointed by ‘kuchen’. And have never ever found those potato balls.

I do have a friend who confused senf and sahne and demanded a hot chocolate with mustard. I think at least one Chaletian would have literally died laughing.

BertrandRussell · 05/07/2019 10:40

There are Dutch things called something like butterballen that are hot and crisp and delicious and high calorie...

LaurieMarlow · 05/07/2019 10:58

Brilliant. Fuck the Tiernsee, I’m going to the Netherlands.

Thanks bertrand Grin

Years ago, I was nearly foolish enough to take a temporary job looking after year-old triplets and their three year old brother.

It wasn't a set of all-boy triplets in a place beginning with L, was it??

missclimpson · 05/07/2019 12:26

I have been re-reading The School at the Chalet and in a restaurant in Paris Madge says in her fluent and impeccable French, "le comptoir s'il vous plaît".
Did they give her the counter to take away? Must have been a struggle to get it on the train.

LaurieMarlow · 05/07/2019 12:40

I’m not a linguist (clearly not Chalet girl Grin) but I believe Elinor is notorious for frequent mistakes in both language.

Clearly didn’t have the advantage of a thorough CS grounding.

Thechaletschoolrocks · 05/07/2019 13:02

Hello! I’ve been a lurker for ages and have created an account to ask if @Papergirl1968 or @BertrandRussell could please send me the link? Flowers
My mum’s got a load of early editions from when she and my auntie were growing up, and i’ve got a lot of the Armada copies (don’t know how to add photos) but there are some gaps and I’d love to read them!
Many, many thanks!

BertrandRussell · 05/07/2019 13:07

Done, Thechalet.

I’m enjoying this work of supererogation. It means I can ignore everything else while I watch tennis!

Pascha · 05/07/2019 13:08

How have I not seen this thread til now? I had the one drive login a couple of laptops ago but I've long-since lost them so I would appreciate if someone could give me it please? I seem to recall an unabridged Exile with the Switzerland chapter that says so much in there and I would live to refresh my memory.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 05/07/2019 13:08

Hello all, I've just stumbled across this thread and it has given me much merriment. I used to love the Chalet series. I owned a few and borrowed more from our school library. I would love to have the OneDrive link please if it isn't too much trouble. Thanks/Danke schön/Merci ☕🥞

QuaterMiss · 05/07/2019 13:32

Please, someone talk me through this. I have all the info. Should I be downloading One drive to my phone? Or ...?

BertrandRussell · 05/07/2019 13:42

I just put one drive.live.com into the search bar and it prompted me...

TailsoftheManyPaws · 05/07/2019 14:04

Mine automatically signed me in as my own email address, and I had to open it in a new browser in order to sign in with the Chalet School email and password instead.

Yugi · 05/07/2019 14:09

Well I was reading this thread before I went to the supermarket and found these. Had to buy them 😂

Not to have realised until now that Joey Maynard’s ‘displaced organ’ was a prolapse?
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 05/07/2019 14:47

Thank you for the link @BertrandRussell ☺️ I hope I can get into it. Have you had a taste test yet, Yugi? 😄

Yugi · 05/07/2019 15:04

IsFuzzyBeagMisegg I was waiting for dinner but now I am thinking of a very Carly afternoon snack 🤣🤣

Yugi · 05/07/2019 15:05

Carby not Carly

Maddaddam · 05/07/2019 15:08

Could I have the link too please?
I have about 30 of the books, saved for my children but none of my 3 dds are keen on boarding school stories, which is such a waste. My sister and I still re-read them though.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 05/07/2019 15:19

Yugi 👍😂

ChiaraRimini · 05/07/2019 15:34

BertrandRussell please may I have the link? Sorry I am on the app so can't send PM.
Does anyone remember the teacher whose hair turned white overnight during the escape from the Nazis?

Jemima232 · 05/07/2019 15:49

Ladies

I have searched for, and failed to find, a single second-hand copy of any of the CS books within the many and various charity shops in the HIghlands of Scotland.

DH has got caught up in the hunt.
He says we've never had a better holiday.

DH: Shall we try there?

Me: Ooh yes.

DH: I never thought I'd spend four days in Scotland looking for books by.....who's the author again? Sir James Talbot?

Me: Aargh!

Jemima232 · 05/07/2019 15:56

Don't worry, QuaterMiss

I have had to ask DD how to sort out OneDrive for me.

Conversation with DD today:

DD: Happy Birthday Mother!

Me: Thank you, DD. What is OneDrive?

DD: You don't need it. (foreseeing hours of tuition ahead)

Me: I do need it. I want to read all the Chalet School books.

DD: Never heard of them.

………...twenty minutes later...……

DD: Yes, yes, all right. Ask for the link and send it to me. I'll be up in August and I'll show you what to do. I can't believe you want to re-read such a load of old crap. Actually I can believe it. Poor DFather. You've made him go round how many charity shops, looking for this shite?

………..another twenty minutes later...…….

DD: Huh. I wouldn't let Sir. James Talbot near me with his speculum. He sounds like a git.
