Propess induction

I'm currently in hospital awaiting my first baby. I'm just under my due date (due on Monday) but because of a few things have been induced.

My midwife examined me yesterday and said I was 1-2cm dilated but today the hospital midwife said they could not break my waters. I had a propess put in at 12 and so far haven't had any real symptoms 😩 my dh has been sent home as visiting is only until 8 so I'm just sat here alone. Does anyone have any positive stories to tell me?

I'm worried as it's been in for 9 hours now that nothing has actually happened and it hasn't worked. Midwife said if it doesn't work we will repeat so potentially I'll be here 48 hours with nothing happening :-(

I'm scared to give birth but I think I psyched myself up for today and now I'm sat alone with no progress. Also there is a woman in the next bay who is in labour and keeps making very loud moans (almost screams) so that is not making me feel more confident.

Anyone?

I had a propess put in at 6am. Things started quite slowly but then ramped up dramatically overnight and I gave birth at 0950 the next day. The lady in the bay opposite had two 24 hours apart and nothing happened for her at all. I think it depends on how you react to the pessary. I walked around and bounced on my ball continuously to try and help things along. I don’t know whether it helped or not but at least I felt like I was doing something.

Dgs is now eleven days old. Dd was induced with propress because of pre eclampsia. Propress didn't really do anything, so six hours after it was removed she had prostin gel. When examined she was 2cm and had waters broken. Eight hours later she was put on syntocin drip as there was no real progress, three hours later she was fully dilated and dgs was born without assistance and dd only used gas and air for pain relief. It was a long haul she has propress Friday morning and baby was born Sunday lunchtime.

mintoreo · 27/06/2019 21:10

Hi, I had propess and the pessaries and had no reaction to them at all. I didnt even get to 1cm and they couldn't break my waters, literally nothing at all. In the end I had a c section about 48 hours after the induction process started. They gave me a choice to have a csection or to start the process and do it again. So just be prepared for this as a potential option.

Raver84 · 27/06/2019 21:10

I had pro pes at midday contractions started at 730 pm labour really built quick and had my son a 9pm. He was my 4th though so was expecting a quick one once it got going.try to rest and be patient. Easier sais than done I know

boredaloneandwaiting · 27/06/2019 21:11

Thank you both for replying :-) I think I'm just a bit ☹️ because if this doesn't work I have to have another propess so that's another 24 hours and then if that still doesn't work then they will do the gel. I think I had told myself that no matter how bad it got baby would be here soon and now it feels like I'm just sat waiting for something that isn't happening.

I've got some very slight back pain in the last ten mins or so but I think that's from lying on the bed. I've been walking all day since I had it in and just went up and down the stairs a few times but I don't have the energy for more.

Also the lady opposite has now been told she can go have her waters broken. She's been here an hour 😩

I feel like when Rachel on friends gets annoyed cos everyone is progressing but not me :-(

AuntieMaggie · 27/06/2019 21:11

My advice is to sleep/rest and eat to build up your energy. I had two lots, then broken waters, drip etc and the whole thing took over 48 hours til DC finally arrived. It can take a while but try to relax and save your energy for the end of labour

boredaloneandwaiting · 27/06/2019 21:13

I just feel like crying (I know I'm being a big baby I'm lucky I'm not in awful agony) I just wish dh was here with me or I could go home.

Propess is a slow release form of the gel so it may take some time to work.
A lot of hospitals bring people in 2 days before 42 weeks of overdue because it can take 2 days to get you into labour
So don't be disheartened, everyone's body's are different and are at different states of readiness for giving birth so they will respond differently to the propess or prostin gel
Just relax, potter about, take a walk, go the shop or cafe, read a good book or whatever you like to do... let your body gear itself up a
And good luck Thanks

EAIOU · 27/06/2019 21:35

Poor love! Mines went in 8 in morning and baby was born at 4 the next. All very spontaneous and a quick labour. I had no symptoms until a bloody show and a very sudden evacuation of all bodily fluids🤢😖. Under 2 hours and baby was born.

Congratulations and good luck. Also second the lots of rest and sleeping if you can.

Moanger · 27/06/2019 21:41

Is that the one where they put something in, send you out for 2/3 hours (preferably walking around) and then back for them to take it out? If so I had it put in at 12, waters broke at 8.30pm and had the baby at just before 10.30pm. Hope it goes as well for you. 🤞🏻🙂

Herbert1234 · 27/06/2019 21:42

I had the propess at 12, contractions started at 1 and continued for 24 hours before I'd gone from 1cm pre propess to 3cm so they could break my waters. He was back to back though so everything was slow. My advice is try and get some rest (I know how hard it is!) And try not to worry. Worrying won't change how things go, and you're in the best place. Wishing you luck and sending hugs

wallymum · 27/06/2019 21:43

Hey, first of all congratulations you're gonna meet your lil one soon! Thought I'd share to keep your spirits up. I was induced had two rounds of pessaries and then the drip. Was in for 2.5 days. Waters broke after 24 hours but failed to progress beyond 2cm. Ended with a c section but we were both well and c section was absolutely fine! It turned out lil miss was back to back which can be a cause of failure to progress! Good luck and enjoy it xx

boredaloneandwaiting · 27/06/2019 21:43

Thanks again everyone. Back pain seems on and off and my stomach does seem to keep tightening like bh almost?? Not sure if I'm imagining it all though as I'm so desperate to get it all going!

Greenolivesorblackolives · 27/06/2019 21:45

I had all the pessaries I was allowed which was 4 days worth and it still didn’t get me to 1cm.
It’s tough and it’s a long process but all so worth it.
Good luck.

hammeringinmyhead · 27/06/2019 21:48

I had a propess at 1pm, contractions at 4.30pm (very mild tightenings) and then I shot from 4cm to 10cm dilated in an hour and gave birth at 8pm. You may find things happen in the next couple of hours. I will say that my waters had gone 24 hours before, hence the induction.

boredaloneandwaiting · 28/06/2019 00:15

Still nothing ☹️ Trying to sleep but it's so noisy !

OP posts:
Tingface · 28/06/2019 00:20

Bless you that’s rubbish. Can you fashion some ear plugs somehow?? Got any headphones? Or a white noise app under your pillow?
Hospitals are such awful places to try and test- just when you need it most!

SpanglyPop · 28/06/2019 00:25

Ah hun I was you2.5years ago!! Trust me SLEEP. You will need it. I also cried like a baby when they sent my DH home convinced I'd end up giving birth overnight and he wouldn't make it in time. It worked out all good in the end.

boredaloneandwaiting · 28/06/2019 00:47

I just want some sign this bloody thing has actually worked :-( as it is I'm thinking I'm going to get to 24 hours and have to have another put in then who knows if that will work :-(

OP posts:
UserFriendly14 · 28/06/2019 01:22

I was had this too and yes hospitals are the worst! A woman next to me was clearly making the most of her last good night sleep and sounded like a farmyard animal!

I had propess at 7pm, contractions at midnight (15 mins after sending DH home!), waters went at 2:30 and baby at 9:30. My advice is hold off from pain relief for as long as you can and don’t underestimate gas and air- it’s amazing. I’m looking forward to my next labour just for that again!

Do you know what you’re having OP?

boredaloneandwaiting · 28/06/2019 01:54

No we have kept it a surprise :-)

Still no sign of anything happening :-( they just did monitoring and midwife keeps asking if I have any pain etc or loss from down below but nope!

Feel this is going to be a long weekend 😩

OP posts:
boredaloneandwaiting · 28/06/2019 01:56

@UserFriendly14 farmyard animal made me laugh! I currently have one woman down the room crying as she can't get comfortable in her bed, one on the phone to her dh (I assume) telling him every detail of what is occurring on the ward and one who appears to be pretty ready for delivery. They all came after me and they are all waiting for delivery suite beds or to have their waters broken. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Shelley54 · 28/06/2019 06:32

Propess didn’t work for me and neither did the gel. I can promise you if you get to the gel it’s lovely, cold and soothing after the irritation of the propess. Sorry it’s not working faster for you.

boredaloneandwaiting · 28/06/2019 06:38

Waters broke at 4am 😳😱 decided to see what happened naturally but no progress so having a drip put in now....terrified is not the word
