Propess induction

I'm currently in hospital awaiting my first baby. I'm just under my due date (due on Monday) but because of a few things have been induced.

My midwife examined me yesterday and said I was 1-2cm dilated but today the hospital midwife said they could not break my waters. I had a propess put in at 12 and so far haven't had any real symptoms 😩 my dh has been sent home as visiting is only until 8 so I'm just sat here alone. Does anyone have any positive stories to tell me?

I'm worried as it's been in for 9 hours now that nothing has actually happened and it hasn't worked. Midwife said if it doesn't work we will repeat so potentially I'll be here 48 hours with nothing happening :-(

I'm scared to give birth but I think I psyched myself up for today and now I'm sat alone with no progress. Also there is a woman in the next bay who is in labour and keeps making very loud moans (almost screams) so that is not making me feel more confident.

Jeds55 · 28/06/2019 06:55

@boredaloneandwaiting you'll be fine, my waters went at about 2am after prop first day then gel second so was put on drip at 8:30am, had dd at 5:20pm. Good luck

MrsAJ27 · 28/06/2019 06:59

Hope everything goes well

MrsElizabethShelby · 28/06/2019 07:07

The drip is fine lovey especially as you have had the prostaglandin first.

Your on the final stretch, it won't be long now!

DoctorDread · 28/06/2019 07:23

Good luck op

PookieDo · 28/06/2019 07:29

Ah excited! My waters broke at 37 weeks with no contractions so they had 24 hours to induce me, ended up on the drip because the gel and pessaries worked but my contractions were irregular

Good luck

galaxy101 · 28/06/2019 07:32

I had the drip... don't delay asking for an epidural if you think you're likely to need one. If I ever had to have another with a drip I'd refuse it until the epidural was in first.

Evibella · 28/06/2019 07:36

Absolutely agree with galaxy! I went from 4 to 10cm in 1.5 hours and I absolutely needed the epidural but shift changes meant it was delayed until baby was born.

galaxy101 · 28/06/2019 07:40

I tried to word that so as not to scare you but I really would recommend you ask as soon as your contractions start, incase there is a delay. I got one with my first, with my second there was no time (I asked at 6cm) and no one available to do it

Liskee · 28/06/2019 08:07

Things will move quickly now a drip is on the cards! Good Luck Wink

sashypants · 28/06/2019 08:15

I had the drip with my first baby, once waters were broken it still took 19 hours
But good luck OP!! X

Redcherries · 28/06/2019 08:20

I agree with PP, I had the drip with both babies, after experiencing the first one I asked for the epidural before they started the drip for the second baby. Please do ask for one if you need one, or consider it just before that point so they have time to arrange it.

With the first one for some unknown reason the midwife cancelled mine and by the time it was realised it was too late.

I hope all goes well and you soon have your baby to snuggle!

Jeds55 · 28/06/2019 08:27

If you're still reading (prob bit busy!) I would also recommend asking for an epidural early on. I asked way too late and by the time they found the anaethitist (sp?) I was 9cm dilated. Exciting day for you

EdtheBear · 28/06/2019 08:32

Things have moved on but my friend and I have similar propess stories, hideous backache then baby appeared without much warning.

EAIOU · 28/06/2019 17:25

Any news OP? Good luck 🥰

boredaloneandwaiting · 29/06/2019 06:56

He's here 😊😊 9lbs! Was a bit traumatic in the end as he got stuck in my pelvis so we ended up in theatre but he got here in the end :-)

Just say recovering now. 😊😊😊😊

First time I was eight hours from pessaryto birth, second was 3 days of 2 pessaries and breaking my waters. I know someone who has two pessaries and then a c section because nothing happened. Everyone reacts differently.

I hope things start happening soon for you!

EAIOU · 29/06/2019 08:05

Oh my god yaaaaaaaay congratulations and what a lovely big boy!

So glad you're both safe and well 🥰

I had a propess with ds2 it got me to 4cm and then they took me to the delivery suite to break my waters it was slow though I was in active labour for 17 hours.

x2boys · 29/06/2019 10:13

Should have rtft! CongratulationsFlowers
