To find people's surnames that really don't fit their jobs funny

DH knows an accountant called Mr Crook, I always giggle when he mentions him as I still find the name funny after all these years, apparently he's got a very serious personality and doesn't like anyone joking about the name, to be fair he's probably heard them all by now! Separately, our old neighbour was a baker and his name really suited his job as he was actually a Mr Baker! Do you know anyone with a surname that either does or doesn't fit their profession?

Which ones are urban legends, @BertrandRussell ?

HistoriaTrixie · 28/06/2019 02:37

Nearly 20 years ago, I was an assistant to a forensic accountant named Fellin. Yep, pronounced "Felon".

And in the 'name DEFINITELY fits job' category, a good friend's husband had his vasectomy performed by this guy!! Shock

My dad was taught to swim as an adult by a teacher who would only call himself by his first name. Turned out his surname was Drown.
I had a doctor called Doctor Pox as a child.

Wherearemyminions · 28/06/2019 07:12

I knew a police officer many years ago, Sgt Bacon.

SerenDippitty · 28/06/2019 07:29

There’s a US actor called Garrett Wang. He’s NOT a porn actor.

The surgeon, who operated on my Ds, is called MÅ• Butcher

ElsieMc · 28/06/2019 07:37

Dr Cockshott, working in IVF. Mr Pigg, the butcher. Both were clients of a firm I worked for long ago and with fond memories. Also a Ceri and Dick Devine - my boss could not see why I found this funny.

BiscuitMachine · 28/06/2019 07:59

There is an ENT consultant called Mr. Smelt.

Went to school with a girl who’s father was a gynaecologist. Their surname was Love.

‘Lay back and relax madam, Dr Love will see you now’ Grin

YouJustDoYou · 28/06/2019 08:15

One of the doctors I worked with was called Dr De Ath.

YouJustDoYou · 28/06/2019 08:15

Was actually spelt DeAth but he asked us to separate it on documents so as not to scare patients Grin

SirTobyBelch · 28/06/2019 08:27

The surgeon who removed my appendix was Mr Tombs.

zigzagbetty · 28/06/2019 08:34

BlueGlassesFrames · 28/06/2019 08:41

Not quite so good but one of the ladies who worked in the office of my old college was called Miss Meany. She was one of the loveliest people I've ever met, but to call her by her first name also felt slightly disrespectful so I still just call her Miss.

MyChildrenHaveHorns · 28/06/2019 09:03

Met a nurse by the name of Angela De'Ath 😳

ddl1 · 28/06/2019 09:06

BertrandRussell: Not only is there an MP called James Cleverly, but he represents the constituency of Braintree!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 28/06/2019 09:06

My old GP Dr Butcher

Gynie called Mr Tingly

and Nurse Nurse

ddl1 · 28/06/2019 09:09

I know a gardener with the surname Green. There is or was a firm of estate agents called Doolittle and Dalley. I am told that at one point, the leader of the Republicans in the American Congress was called Delay. Which reminds me that the name of the current American President can arouse some giggles, at least from Brits!
