The lesbian bus attack was everywhere with several threads on here.

Nobody seems to care about 2 gay men being verbally abused and stabbed by a 12 year old.

What in the hell?

MyOpinionIsValid · 26/06/2019 19:44

It's not flagged up on any of my news feeds .

Evilspiritgin · 26/06/2019 19:46

Christ that’s awful, I honestly haven’t read anything like that in the news, I have a niece aged 12 It’s unfathomable to imagine her doing something as heinous

PineappleSeahorse · 26/06/2019 19:46

Did you just see the story today or did you read about it before then?

SandyY2K · 26/06/2019 19:47

There is now.

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 19:47

It was on the BBC page as a top news story yesterday. Sank without a trace.

Eugh! That's about a mile away from where I grew up. I thoght shit like that was long gone.

It hadn't come uponp my news feed either. Nothing to do with not caring, simply not knowing!

And now, if you don't mind, I'm going to check with my cousin and make sure it wasn't his son or anyone they know!

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 26/06/2019 19:52

Hadn't come up on my news feed either. This story is awful

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 19:55

Actually it was 3 days ago.

It's local news here, so I knew about it. It was on the Fail & Grauniad websites on Monday too. Obviously have discussed it with friends & colleagues & am genuinely speechless. I can't understand what kind of ratbag raises their children to stab someone in the head at all, never mind because they're different.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/06/2019 19:57

I'm struggling to see why this is the point you're making. Because you think people are what, sexist? Homophobic against gay men but not lesbians?

Of course people will be horrified by an attack by a very young child on a couple because of homophobia. It's shocking and I worry about how a child of 12 becomes that violent and homophobic.

I imagine though that one reason the story about the bus attack gained so much traction is that the perpetrator wasn't in custody.

IceIceCoffee · 26/06/2019 19:58

I’m in Liverpool as a city we condemn it and are bothered. It’s all over local social media

Evilspiritgin · 26/06/2019 19:59

I presume the same sort of people that turn a blind eye when a 11yr old is shot, I still can’t believe that the parents of those boys did nothing

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 20:03

And 12 year olds engaging in a homophobic stabbing attack isn’t news worthy because they were caught?

I’m just shocked and bemused as to why the lesbian bus attack got such widespread horror but this just passed on by. It appeared on the same place on the BBC page. I do think gay men face more bigotry and hostility.

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/06/2019 20:04

Yes, having texted cousin, found out it was a few days ago and, as IceIce said, it is all over local media, roundly condemned, lots of solidarity for the men, puzzled indignation / disbelief about the boys!

Could you, perhap, have phrased your OP better? Maybe invited us to discuss it instead of making it sound as though you were berating us? Or were you actually berating us?

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/06/2019 20:11

I do think gay men face more bigotry and hostility.

Of course they do. As do lesbians.

I find competitive news really strange. If you want to talk about it, talk about it. If all you want to do is say, "why aren't you talking about what I think you should be talking about?" it's like those people who post memes saying, "why are we giving out methadone while veterans are homeless?" It's possible to care about both.

I assume in the media there were other reasons. Can't name the perp, still looking for the perp, Liverpool never gets on the news, photogenic lesbians, slow news day and so on.

Pikapikachooo · 26/06/2019 20:16

I don’t think it’s because people don’t care
There is a funny pattern to what gets reported and what doesn’t

Same with child murders , and family annihilation stories .

I think the other tale was mainly covered as it had a very shocking photo to accompany it

teddypasty · 26/06/2019 20:18

The other news story got more hits because there was a sexual element. The lesbian couple were attacked after they refused to give a "show" for the boys. This info featured in most of the headlines. It's part of the reason people clicked.

museumum · 26/06/2019 20:25

It’s not hard to see why the picture of the women with names in the bus with blood caught the attention more than a news report with a picture of an empty street and no names.
Humans are wired to relate to human stories, this reads like a court report. It’s no less horrific but it is less emotional due to lack of detail about the individuals.

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 20:37

I’m more intrigued at the indifference on a national level than discussing it hence the title. We know it’s hideous and shocking, I find the indifference even more shocking and upsetting though.

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 20:40

I find the fact homophobia starts st such a young age and 12 years olds can have such hate and stab more shocking than the bloodied photo. One of the men was hospitalised with neck and face wounds. They had verbal abuse too, pretty sure there would have been sexual content, there normally is with homophobic abuse.

OP posts:
teddypasty · 26/06/2019 20:43

pretty sure there would have been sexual content

It wasn't in the headline though op. That's the point. Clicks lead to clicks. It's a horrible world we live in

S1naidSucks · 26/06/2019 20:44

Why did it take you so long to start a thread, if you were so horrified? You’re on here berating everyone else, while you did feck all until today. Of course people are horrified and rightfully so, but this is also a predominantly female site, so it’s natural that male violence against women will be talked about, because it happens ALL the time.

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 20:47

It was in all the papers, discussed in the media, even the prime minister commented on it and there were 3 threads on here.

3 days later, zilch on this story.
