The lesbian bus attack was everywhere with several threads on here.

Nobody seems to care about 2 gay men being verbally abused and stabbed by a 12 year old.

Lumene · 26/06/2019 20:50

Well did you start a thread on it at the time?

If not YABU to complain something didn’t happen when you could have done it yourself.

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 20:52

I thought Id wait and see how long it took to appear on here. Was clearly never going to happen.

Was also comforting my gay teenage son who finds all homophobic attack stories deeply upsetting and anxiety inducing.

Today’s update that was clearly of little interest moved me to post.

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 20:55

I find it interesting and wonder if it’s a sign of something deeper. If you’re not pretty and female homophobia is just ignored.Youre just expected to get on with it.

TheInebriati · 26/06/2019 20:58

Scoring imaginary points on the back of such a serious assault is unacceptable imo. You should have just started a thread.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/06/2019 21:02

I thought Id wait and see how long it took to appear on here.

I have never thought that. If it's important to you, start a thread.

And just so you know, being a young, pretty woman means you will have semi-constant harassment, never mind being a lesbian.

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 21:02

I didn’t want to discuss the story but the indifference. Couldn’t care less if you think that was acceptable.

OP posts:
GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 21:05

Being harassed is not the same as being harassed and suffering from homophobia. Stories highlighting the hatred and attacks round the world are a weekly occurrence. Knowing many round the world want you dead and hate you is incredibly damaging for youngsters growing up. The harassment they suffer is an addition.

So here we have it... Goady McGoady him/herself.

Seems to me you're less upset by this horrible story than you are interested in having a gratuitious go at posters here.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/06/2019 21:09

I thought Id wait and see how long it took to appear on here. Was clearly never going to happen Bloody hell, OP.

So you are berating us, collectively, for not having reda a story you had read.

Fuck that for a game of soldiers.

I find it interesting and wonder if it’s a sign of something deeper. You could have said that in your OP... and you would have had an entirely different discussion.

As it is you have occupied a high horse and we are all looking up at you wondering where your ladder went!

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/06/2019 21:11

And actually that is a good reason to switch off the social media and the news. Constantly streaming atrocities cannot be good for young people's mental health. Awareness is good but only if there is a sense of agency and power attached.

Posting just to berate people, rather than discuss it, isn't productive. Although you don't care so as you were.

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 21:18

I think it’s pretty shitty to be honest. If the attack had been against an elderly person it would have been everywhere.

Sorry but I think the indifference on here and nationally is worth discussing. You may not but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be highlighted or discussed.

Re switching off social media. So gay teens don’t get to enjoy what other teens do and should be isolated even more.Hmm Gay teens also need to keep abreast of world news the same as everybody else.

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 26/06/2019 21:20

Oh FFS that's clearly not what I was saying. There are 100 million missing women in the world thanks to sex selective abortion and femicide. And two women a week are murdered in the UK by men. When that makes me despair, I switch of social media and stay away from FWR.

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 21:22

My teens have to watch the news and read papers daily for school. I don’t think my son should do less well in school because of bigotry and hate towards his sexuality.

OP posts:
IcedPurple · 26/06/2019 21:25

the indifference on here

Oh give it a rest! Everyone here has said that this attack was a disgrace.

There are any number of news stories available on any given day, and even the biggest news hound is only ever going to read a small proportion of them. Berating people because they haven't read the same news stories as you is tiresome.

Tallgreenbottle · 26/06/2019 21:28

I'm in Liverpool and everyone is horrified. Though given the shithole area it happened in, it doesn't surprise most of us.

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 21:32

Interesting as some quite small news stories cause outrage and crop up here. The lesbian bus story was in exactly the same place on the BBC site.I don’t believe it wasn’t seen by the majority.

IcedPurple · 26/06/2019 21:39

I saw 'the lesbian bus story' but not this.

I get that you're desperate to prove a point so that you can get all righteously indignant, but all you're achieving is making yourself look very silly and unpleasant.

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 26/06/2019 21:41

I saw the story, so sorry I don't live on here and didn't start a thread on it. Liverpool isn't my region either, I still remember a racist attack in Nottingham that resulted in death.
Tbh my second thought - my first being that it's shit - was that if it had been a man attacking a woman, on what we might call gynophobic grounds, the condemnation I saw in the original news story would have been neither so clear nor so immediate. It would all have been about what the woman was wearing and why was she there anyway.

GreySk1es · 26/06/2019 21:43

I don’t think it’s silly to discuss this. I’ve not seen clothing mentioned in the teenage stabbing stories I’ve read. It wasn’t mentioned in the bus attack story.

OP posts:
DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 26/06/2019 21:53

I meant, my second and first thoughts on the original story when I first saw it, not on the existence of this thread. First thought was that's a shit event, second the speed and clarity of condemnation in the original story compared to sexist attacks. Sorry for confusion. You've started a thread now anyway. End of problem. Why didn't you start one earlier instead of complaining now that one hadn't appeared?

MissingtheMonkey · 26/06/2019 21:54

It didn’t happen in London so the nationals and tv don’t think it’s worth reporting.

S1naidSucks · 26/06/2019 22:04

Why didn't you start one earlier instead of complaining now that one hadn't appeared?

Because the OP wanted to wait, then call us all homophobic. 🙄

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/06/2019 22:10

Still not engaging with what has been said and continuing to ride that high horse then!

monkey OP linked to a BBC page and also said The lesbian bus story was in exactly the same place on the BBC site.

smeerf · 26/06/2019 22:23

The threads I saw on the "lesbian bus story" were on FWR because of the 'male gaze' aspect. The women were attacked for not performing their role as sexual objects for the men and posters were discussing that, as well as generally how terrible it was.

Everything I've read about the other attack has been very vague, presumably because the suspect is a child and therefore requires some degree of anonymity? Therefore there's less to talk about.

Do you think there's a possibility you're overreacting to this perceived injustice because you can identify with the victims more?

Gingerkittykat · 26/06/2019 22:30

I do think gay men face more bigotry and hostility.

I think gay men are generally more accepted and visible in society than lesbians.

Look at basic things like reality TV where there are loads of gay men but very few lesbians.

I think if the story had a photo then it would have got a lot more publicity, the attack sounds brutal and horrific.
