And that it makes a little squeak when you finally get it out?

WoollyMummoth · 26/06/2019 08:15

oh my god Mac47 so do I!! The little bastard is sat right in the middle of my mole and it grows at an alarming rate. It’s the only one I don’t pluck. I give it a regular trip with the nail scissor as told not to pluck it. It’s a little fucker and I hate it😡

DrVonPatak · 26/06/2019 08:16

I find they grow like mushrooms if I had anything sugary the day before 🤔

tomatostottie · 26/06/2019 08:24

Mine are red!!! I'm not a red head.
Would the lumea kill the red ones? It says dark ones so I'm not sure.

I wax mine and that's great for a couple of days until the shortest ones that the wax didn't get start becoming visible. Then wax again and so it goes on and on forever.

Mine are worse at the moment so I am wondering if I could be peri-menopausal (I'm 42).

MrsMozartMkII · 26/06/2019 08:24

I am with my hirsuit people.

Gotta love this getting older lark.

By the way, anyone else have half an eyebrow that insists, when it does bother to produce any hairs, on having said hairs grow upwards at an angle? This is not how eyebrows work! HmmConfused

Brilliant! that will cheer me up when it happens to me (it does)

Does the Lumea work on red hairs (why are mine bluddy ginger when i'm not???) or white whiskers?

Wheresthebeach · 26/06/2019 08:25

Just googled Lumea - £475 Shock...its tweezers for me!

trackingmedown · 26/06/2019 08:27

Sadly facial hair comes to most women with age. I had the occasional rogue one from early 30s but after the menopause they went beserk. I use a spring thing and an ‘eyebrow trimmer’ (euphemism for lady face razor) on the downy stuff on my cheeks and neck but the pointy little buggers on the chin require perseverance, patience and a pair of tweezers.

I feel your prickly, bristly pain OP. My only consolation is that like many life skills it gets easier with practice.

roses2 · 26/06/2019 08:31

I bought a Philips Lumea and only use it on my chin hair - it's made a huge difference and now I have very few hairs! I have light brown skin & black hair.

I do like the satisfying noise the hair makes when plucked out though.

CornerofUpandDown · 26/06/2019 08:31

Yup! I'm hairy and have had them since my early twenties (but now there is more of them!) ☹️ They also seem to grow faster then the finger hairs around then. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The only way I can get those spring things to work is to hold it in the actual spring and roll it that way to minimise the amount of active spring on my skin. They're great because they get the baby hairs too.

CornerofUpandDown · 26/06/2019 08:32

Finer, not finger (autocorrect hates me today!)

plantbased · 26/06/2019 08:34

I'm quite fair skinned and have 2 very persistent blonde chin hairs that are SO thick and wiry. Thing is no one else would see them but I know they're there so I go at them with tweezers trying to get a hold of the little buggers until my chin is all red and mangled so EVERYONE can see where I've been having a good old dog around 🤦🏼‍♀️

Anarchyshake · 26/06/2019 08:35

Chinnegans!

And I've had the odd one to three try and grow under my chin since my mid twenties.

They usually turn up in relation with my cycle. So I'd say it's hormonal.

DragonTrainer3 · 26/06/2019 08:36

It doesn't have to be that much @Wheresthebeach - I got mine for about £250, and there are others under £100. £475 is definitely at the top end of the scale!

strawberrisc · 26/06/2019 08:38

Thanks to Mumsnet, Philips Lumea changed my life. I'm not even kidding.

Wheresthebeach · 26/06/2019 08:39

DragonTrainer3 That's what happens when you Google in a panic...Grin
At least I didn't buy it!

Babdoc · 26/06/2019 08:41

There was a previous thread on MN about chin hairs. Someone coined the term “ hag whiskers”, and it was adopted with great glee!
I find a pair of men’s tweezers very effective. They seem to be more robust and have a better grip than ones marketed at women (typical). And a magnifying mirror in good lighting helps to locate the wiry little buggers too.

MoaningMinniee · 26/06/2019 08:42

I have just changed into White Van Woman for my dog walking business. When will White Van manufacturers realise that a substantial number of drivers are female and would like a vanity mirror?Preferably with a dedicated light for tarting up a bit (and particularly for plucking chin hairs somewhere well away from thieving teenage daughters and their tweezer stealing habits).

I'm going to buy a small mirror and some superglue and stick it on the sun visor.

I’ve invested in a no no.

So far I’ve done a strip on one leg (for control purposes) and the hair is definitely coming back less.

I’ve not tried my fizzog (face for those who are of a slightly guttery mind) yet.

I’m waiting for my chin hair to sprout (I’ve not found it for a few weeks so I’m sure it’ll probably appear whilst I’m typing this)

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 26/06/2019 08:48

Yup. Mine appears literally overnight 1cm
Long and wiry. Satisfying to pull but insanely irritating if found when out without tweezers

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/06/2019 08:51

My Lumea was on special at John Lewis for £325. Still a lot of money, but the most basic version goes for about £150.

Unfortunately, for the PPs who asked, it doesn't work on red or pale blonde hair.

ginghamtablecloths · 26/06/2019 09:00

It's stubborn, I'll give you that and sometimes it's brittle and snaps off instead of coming out cleanly. More painful is upper lip hair the nearer the middle you get - it must have a direct line to the pain centre of the brain.

Annoying still is that my good long-term side-effect of chemo is that I have absolutely no armpit, arm or leg hair - which is something I would have appreciated when I was younger. The wretched chin and upper lip hair is as strong as ever. Life is unfair but I'm alive.

chamenanged · 26/06/2019 09:11

I am nowhere near 30 yet and have one chin hair that does the zero to hero overnight thing Sad and I can't concentrate on anything until I've tweezed it. I also have a forehead one but it's one of those white/clear hairs that grow all over your face, just way longer, so I at least sort of understand why I never see that one until it's inches long and enough to catch the light.

thetemptationofchocolate · 26/06/2019 09:17

There is one on my chin that is a bit odd. It's a Wiry White (if we are categorising them :) ) and there are times when it appears once a week or so. Then it will go quiet for a long time and suddenly appear, about half an inch long. It's not that I am not seeing it grow, it's just not there for ages. I think it is tormenting me.

ambereeree · 26/06/2019 09:26

30!!! Blimey that's young to suffer the chinny chin chin hairs. I spotted mine after my son was born at 39. Leaky boobs, wobbly bits all over and a long hair on my chin. How attractive I felt.
Anyway ladies you need to thread. The hair gets weaker and lighter.
