AIBU to ask you to help me name my ice cream business? 🍨

I'm on the cusp of starting to make and sell my own handmade ice cream at farmers markets etc and I'll be selling from a traditional style ice cream bike. I don't do 'standard' flavours, so you'd find flavours like Eton Mess, Peanut Butter & Caramel or Rhubarb Crumble, plus a vegan flavour / sorbet.

Recipes are developed and tested, kitchen is being modified to keep environmental health happy and the bike is awaiting delivery. But - I need a name for my business! Without it I can't set up my website etc...

I need something that suggests

  • premium quality
  • something that's a bit different to the norm
  • possibly a hint at the environmental / zero waste ethos

I'm in Wales but I've been avoiding place related names as I want the option to expand in future, and I can't be certain that the business will always be bike-based so I've been avoiding explicitly bike-related names.

Possibly something like Creamery, The Scoop, The Project, The _ Ice Cream Co but I'm very open to suggestions! Help please hivemind...

Icicle tricycle was the name of the cart we booked for our wedding - I think that one is well used!

MOve on... Lick and Promise...?

BlueSuffragette · 25/06/2019 20:38

Sorry, must have missed that bit :-)

Depends where abouts in Wales you and if you locally source your produce to make you're icecream with could help factor you're name and give you that quality and traditional branding you're looking for. Where I'm from we have an ice cream who does home made ice cream called snuggets

Waterlemon · 25/06/2019 20:47

Just use your surname, or one in your family...
Otherwise you limit what you can sell..
James.
Jones
Wanderlust

Howlovely · 25/06/2019 21:03

How about EntIce?
I love a PP's suggestion (apologies I can't remember who it was) of Vice.

iamyourequal · 25/06/2019 21:13

Is your surname really bad ? Can you not just use that? The play-on-word suggestions are cringeworthy and anything with ‘creamery’ is terrible. My goodness, is there anyone out there who earns a living doing advertising/marketing to pop on here and help out?

reesewithoutaspoon · 25/06/2019 21:33

The red dragon ice cream company. for your Welsh roots

OneTownsVeryLikeAnother · 25/06/2019 21:43

Of all the suggestions so far I like The Good Cone Co the best. It sounds friendly and professional.

PitterPatterOfTinyPaws · 25/06/2019 22:03

You lot are fab Grin

I'm afraid my surname doesn't work as it suggests an altogether different trade (calling it Baker's Ice Cream or Fisher's Ice Cream wouldn't really work IMO) so I've discounted that one!

Local place names are tricky - I nearly settled on one that was [Derivative of Place Name] Creamery until I googled it and found lots of results related to drugs and realised I'd been a bit innocent! There's a few rough areas around here too which I wouldn't want to name it after. I'm avoiding anything Welsh language because I wouldn't be able to pronounce my own business name because not many people around here speak Welsh and I'd like a name that could work if I did events in / expanded into England. I'm a bit nervous about using names like Ethical as I wouldn't want it to come back to bite me later on, as when Innocent sold out to coca cola!

My target market is ABC1 middle class types with some disposable income, interested in food, like trying new things. Probably ones that will be attracted by the flavours and consider the use of Welsh / Organic cream to be a bonus. No branding exists as yet but I'm picturing a minimalist line-drawn logo depicting an ice cream cone; probably a cream background and navy blue lettering.

I'm aware that my flavours aren't truly unique (there aren't many left that haven't been invented yet!) but I need to strike a balance between having different flavours and having things people actually want to try - cabbage ice cream could be unique and delicious, but I don't think many people would be queuing up to buy it! All I really meant by non-standard is that I'm not doing vanilla / strawberry / chocolate / Mr Whippy with sprinkles. I hope to differentiate myself by doing the flavours well - lots of double cream, for instance. Ginger's Comfort Emporium is fab and an inspiration to me Grin

I like The Quirky Cow - and I'm thinking that I could have a sub brand called The Quirky Vegan 🤔 Or The [Something] Cone Co (not sure about 'good' though as it seems a bit generic. Of all the punny names I think Sticks and Cones is my favourite but it seems a bit limiting for future expansion. Juniper Creamery is good, but Creamery seems to be a divisive word! Something-smiths is good too (Icesmiths?). So many good ideas from the hivemind Grin
