I'm on the cusp of starting to make and sell my own handmade ice cream at farmers markets etc and I'll be selling from a traditional style ice cream bike. I don't do 'standard' flavours, so you'd find flavours like Eton Mess, Peanut Butter & Caramel or Rhubarb Crumble, plus a vegan flavour / sorbet.

Recipes are developed and tested, kitchen is being modified to keep environmental health happy and the bike is awaiting delivery. But - I need a name for my business! Without it I can't set up my website etc...

I need something that suggests

  • premium quality
  • something that's a bit different to the norm
  • possibly a hint at the environmental / zero waste ethos

I'm in Wales but I've been avoiding place related names as I want the option to expand in future, and I can't be certain that the business will always be bike-based so I've been avoiding explicitly bike-related names.

Possibly something like Creamery, The Scoop, The Project, The _ Ice Cream Co but I'm very open to suggestions! Help please hivemind...

@Kit30 Blush whoops...

MerryMarigold · 25/06/2019 16:37

Only problem is the first two syllables don't make me want to think of food!*

Eh? Don't you like butter?

(I don't like the name Buttercups, but because I think it's a bit bland).

RubberTreePlant · 25/06/2019 16:38

The idea of buttery ice cream is a bit off-putting.

MerryMarigold · 25/06/2019 16:39

Oh, I see. It's all dairy though, innit.

MissingSilence · 25/06/2019 16:40

Creme de la ice creame
Or similar ...
Creme de la ice creams / cream

ShartGoblin · 25/06/2019 16:47

@FlatPackPat I really like The Good Cone Co. good suggestion. Can't put my finger on why exactly but it just sounds right.

EskewedBeef · 25/06/2019 16:48

Welsh Maid

LakieLady · 25/06/2019 16:49

Dairy Godmother made me laugh.

Good for slogans though - "magical ice cream from the Dairy Godmother", "spellbinding flavours" etc.

simplyhaving · 25/06/2019 16:58

I totally agree with the twee, play on word names being overdone, however A Wafer A Cone is still the best name I've ever seen for any business

Twillow · 25/06/2019 17:05

Dairy Godmother already used.
Google is your friend.

PianoTuner567 · 25/06/2019 17:12

Something-smith seems to be trendy, like Sipsmiths gin or Savoursmith crisps. Both vintage-esque, upmarket brands.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/06/2019 17:21

Instead of Jones the Bootmaker, you could be Jones the Ice-cream Maker!

Just Jones the Ice, I'd have thought?

(When I was doing my PhD, I knew a Jones the Crystal. X-ray diffraction not woo)

ittooshallpass · 25/06/2019 18:14

@ThatCurlyGirl I thought your post was great; loads of really helpful advice. There's nothing that irritates me more than when companies invite local school children to name something. Creating a name for a product is a huge process. You explained it all really well.

BlueJava · 25/06/2019 18:22

I love The Happy Cow from @pinkarsedfly

Mumberjack · 25/06/2019 18:25

There’s a Perfect Scoop near us (nowhere near Wales so you’re safe!).
I also like The Real Scoop. Perfect for securing ads in the local press Grin

ByGaslight · 25/06/2019 18:26

The Ice Queen.

FFS is right though about luxe (or Waitrose at least) brands being Miggins and Foreshaw's, Nutsack and Brown's etc. instead of ice-cream related names.

Grandadwasthatyou · 25/06/2019 18:39

Op... do you like any of the suggestions so far?

MargotMoon · 25/06/2019 18:48

I know this is completely unhelpful but DD told me yesterday that if she owned an ice cream shop she would call it TENKO or WIMP Confused

WIMP stands for Waffles, Ice cream, Milkshakes and Pancakes. Shit but kind of understandable.

Fuck knows where she got TENKO from though...

NomDeQwerty · 25/06/2019 18:53

Ice-d on a Bike!
(Works for valleys Welsh of a certain age but really don't use it)
I agree with nothing tweets.
I do like Surname the Ice if it works with your name.
Whereabouts in Wales are you? And do you need a tester?Grin

Gulsink · 25/06/2019 19:04

Ivor the Penguin.

Alaimo · 25/06/2019 19:33

Lots of good advice here. My only 2p is don't choose something too obvious like 'The Ice Cream Co' (without additional adjective). There is a hotel in Paris called 'Paris France'. It's an absolute nightmare to find on google.

Oh and The Happy Cow is a website that lists vegan/veggie restaurants, so don't go for that either.

onmyholibobs · 25/06/2019 19:37

Icicle Tricycle - only works if the bike cart thingy is a tricycle.....

fancynancyclancy · 25/06/2019 19:54

I agree with the place names or surname to give it that home made feel which fits in with Waitrose etc.

Or something italian sounding as they know ice cream so it makes you seem authentic

FlatPackPat · 25/06/2019 19:55

Thanks @ShartGoblin! I like it too! Checked online and the domain is available.

Will OP come back though?!
