How are people not more outraged? And no, tourists do not visit the UK specifically because of the royal family.

It depends which way you look at it. The rich have long bought up blocks of old 'cottages' which were homes to very large families and turned them into luxury accommodation. You see it all the time on Escape to the Country. Space is a luxury and I'd have more if I could afford it, but I'd be dipping into my own pockets.

However the taxpayer is paying for this and it depends on your politics whether you think it's value for money.

Windsor is heaving with tourists, what are they there to see if not the royal family/castle. The swans aren’t all that tbh

YANBU op. It is a blood boiling outrage. People are dying in poverty in one of the richest countries in the world while we fling money at these people.

It’s morally indefensible on every level. Thinking about it gives me a rage headache.

@Widgetsframe I went to Vienna the year before last and you could not move in the palaces for tourists. No royal family anymore though. We don’t need a royal family. It is an outmoded concept that should have no place in a modern society.

All the priviliges they get! All of the countries money they get. There is no need for a Royal family in 2019. It is an old and corrupt system

People would definitely visit the UK even if we had no royal family. Doesn't Versailles make more money than Windsor Castle?

@PineappleFwitters you know how we currently spend multiple millions on one family. You know we currently give 20+ massive palaces and mansions and land around it to ONE family. Do you no think that they are being a bit greedy? Do you not think that those resources could be better used?

I really don't think she's short of money. If she was, she could always sell a valuable artefact or two.

People aren't living in poverty because of the Royal Family. They're living in poverty because of austerity measures, cuts to people's benefits, low wages and the cost of living.

None of that has anything to do with how much is spent on Harry and Meghan. It's two separate pots of money. It's like blaming Bill Gates for the fact that Karen in Peckham needs food banks to survive. The two situations aren't connected.

No Adaline, Bill Gates at least made his money. These people? Where did they get it from.

And like everyone else with a pot of money that they've been given/stolen/inherited, with no effort at all on their part, they can make choices about it. It's fucking awful.

Of course I do @Bandara. I'd abolish the monarchy if possible too as I think it's an outdated concept. Having said that, given the choice between the Queen and Boris Johnson or Jeremy Hunt, I know who I'd choose!

But sadly I don't think the £67m that's given to them would be diverted to the public if we had no royal family. The government would find another way to waste it.

and it's completely reflective of the state of this country. of course it's related - how the rich look after themselves and how the poor suffer alone.

They have their own wealth and.should have used that. They're already in a massively,enviable position of being given the place to live in. Not paying to.do it up is taking the piss........mainly because.the sum is relatively low. And to them affordable.

@adaline I didn't pay for Bill Gate's house. Why should we (taxpayers) pay for Meghan and Harry's house at all? Why don't they pay for it themselves? Tax payers money goes into a collective pot that should be used for the good of the country.
