Las Vegas - quality or quantity

lululemona · 24/06/2019 14:00

Just about to book a very last minute trip to Las Vegas. Would you prefer to spend 4 days at the Bellagio (incredible 5* hotel) or 7 days in a very decent 4-star hotel? The latter is £400 cheaper. We'll book the same excursions regardless.

I'm thinking quality over quantity but DH would prefer a longer break. It's unlikely we'll go to LV a 2nd time.

Very tempted to press on with my preferred option as I have a feeling we won't need to spend an entire week there.

I think LV for less than a week is madness. It's so far and there's tons to do - the strip, downtown, amazing restaurants, tons of shows, pool lounging, Hoover dam, grand canyon, red Rock canyon, outlets, shopping etc.

I would always choose the Bellagio, it's my favorite, but when we stay there we spend a lot of time in the room and in the hotel so definitely get our moneys worth. We live in Vegas though so don't care about seeing everything. I might feel differently if we were on vacation from abroad and would be spending a lot of time out and about

katewhinesalot · 24/06/2019 16:57

I'd definitely go for longer and have a more relaxed break, rather than trying to cram it all in.
By the time you've done a couple of excursions and seen the strip, you won't have any time by the pool if you only do a few days. Nice hotel but no time to enjoy the amenities.

3GreenFrogs · 24/06/2019 17:00

Definitely Bellagio. It’s a beautiful hotel and the pool is great. Plus it’s right near everything worth seeing.

We were there last year and the weather was unbearable hot. It was too hot to walk around so the pool was a godsend.

There isn’t a lot to do in Vegas unless you like drinking, gambling and shopping. I must recommend the Duelling Pianos though - I think it was in Paris hotel. We had a great night seeing that.

3GreenFrogs · 24/06/2019 17:02

Also, there are no coffee making facilities in your room so if you’re like me and need a coffee first thing, be prepared to join the Starbucks queue downstairs

AmbitiousHalibut · 24/06/2019 17:06

Another vote here for the Bellagio!

MaryShelley1818 · 24/06/2019 17:07

I totally agree with FromEden!!
We’ve been to Vegas 3 times - 6 days, then 7 days, then 10 days!!
It’s never enough time, there’s absolutely loads to see and do there (and we’re neither drinkers or gamblers!)

caz114 · 24/06/2019 17:10

Deffo Bellagio it's brilliant and to be honest a week in Vegas is too long.
Enjoy Grand Canyon, a couple of shows and a good wander around the different casinos esp MGM, New York, Mirage and Venation

MaggieMagpie357 · 24/06/2019 17:30

We did 4 nights at the Bellagio as part of our honeymoon, it was LOVELY but also enough time for us to spend in such a crazy, bonkers, OTT, fabulously excessive destination! (In all honestly we stayed there because I thought there was an off chance I'd bump into George Clooney.....)

justjuggling · 24/06/2019 17:35

I did 4 days in Vegas last year and found it the perfect amount of time to spend there! Enjoy the Bellagio!

qj17 · 24/06/2019 17:39

Iv been to Vegas 6 times and we always go
For a week. The mirage is a great hotel with a great location on the strip and a fab pool scene. Some
Of the bellagio rooms are a bit dated I like to
Go in there but I wouldn't rush
To stay there.
In order of where Iv stayed I'd rank them as
1.Aria
2.Mirage
3.Hilton Elara
4.Mgm Grand

  1. Treasure Island
6.Luxor

BUT I would still stay at all of them again!

DreamingofSunshine · 24/06/2019 17:40

I did a week at the Cosmopolitan when I was 24 weeks pregnant and it was fab- went to the outlets, GC day trip, Hoover Dam trip, saw shows, sat by the pool, gorgeous meals. I couldn't drink and don't gamble, and I avoided the casinos due to the smoke. I wasn't bored at all.

Ofjoseph · 24/06/2019 17:46

I wouldn't go for less than a week. A week is a great length of time.

Bellagio is ok but not the best hotel of that price range that's for sure.

I'd always go for a quality hotel but if it's a choice of nice hotel over more time there I'd go for the time. Check out Thomas Cook packages (ATOL protected for full holiday packages). I got an amazing deal at the Venetian (much nicer than Bellagio) for far cheaper than Bellagio.

Ofjoseph · 24/06/2019 17:47

What are your 4* options? I've stayed at a lot of Vegas hotels!

Bravelurker · 24/06/2019 17:56

Is no one going to mention Circus Circus, pure class and pink - very pink Grin

Wantapony · 24/06/2019 17:58

Another vote for Vdara. It's behind Aria, so on-strip, but it's a non-gambling hotel. This means it has a lovely calm relaxed feeling, but you're less than a 5min walk to the strip.
It's all-suite, so all rooms are well appointed and spacious and we had a Bellagio fountain view! Super cost effective too. I'm not on commission!
Vegas is fabulous, so much to see (and lots for free), although last time we went (2016) we were saddened to see so much obvious poverty on the streets.
We did 5 nights and that was plenty. Have fun!

gingerscot · 24/06/2019 18:10

Been 8 times, always for 10 nights and never been bored or overwhelmed.

I love Paris, pool is great for relaxing, not a party pool like the flamingo and gets the sun in the morning, before it’s too hot which Caesers doesn’t get.

Do the longer stay, see as much as you can. Vegas is awesome!

lemonsandlimes123 · 24/06/2019 18:12

Which is the other hotel? Some of the cheaper hotels are fab and some are minging!

lemonsandlimes123 · 24/06/2019 18:14

Having been to Vegas several times the one thing I will say is that it specialises in parting you from your money in the nicest way possible - and that is without any gambling. There is so much to do but it is VERY easy to blow the budget on food, shows excursions etc when you are there. Double the time does mean you need to budget for double the spending money!

pintsizedblondie · 24/06/2019 18:24

I'd go for the cheaper option. We went for 6 days and I thought that was a good amount of time, it's a long way to travel.

Summersunshine2 · 24/06/2019 18:27

Definitely longer and cheaper. Can I come Grin

Aragog · 24/06/2019 18:28

I've been to Vegas for 7 nights. We went for a wedding and stayed the week. We had Dd with us who was 8 at the time.
That was in May and it was hot, very hot. We did have some outdoor time but restricted it to the pool, and mornings/evenings.
There was, however, plenty to do - and some lazy time too. Much of it is paid for though, so adds up. obviously with a child with us with didn't do the casinos.

Been since for 3 nights in August. Now that really was hot - it was over 100f every day and reaching 110+ most of the time. On one drive out in our way to LA it was 120! You really couldn't be outside at all in the day time; it was a killer!! We used jet lag and went in the pool as it opened around 6am and only went outdoors really first thing and then late evening - it was mid 30s at 11pm.

We've stayed at Bellagio and Venetian. I actually preferred the Venetian as the rooms was so much larger. First time we stayed at the Luxor. It was fine but near the start of the strip and no where near the same level of luxury in the hotel.

lemonsandlimes123 · 24/06/2019 18:31

Just to give a different perspective, have also been in august when it is 110+ and i certainly wouldn't say you cant be out in the daytime. It's definitely warm but absolutely fine for being by the pool or in the shade etc, unless you are particularly sensitive to heat

Guff · 24/06/2019 18:34

We've stayed at the Palazzo (Venetian) and the MGM grand - both were superb! I love Vegas so much.

Idontwanttotalk · 24/06/2019 18:35

I would go for 7 days, especially if your DH is thinking of wasting one day.

I suppose it depends on what you want to do. I would recommend:

  1. Hoover dam
  2. Grand Canyon Helicopter tour (not as good as approached from the South but still really worthwhile.
  3. Lake Powell and/or Glen Canyon Dam.
  4. Red Rock Canyon is local if you fancy some gentle hiking.
  5. Bellagio hotel and casino.
  6. Caesar's Palace
  7. The regular shows outside The Mirage and Treasure Island.

Splurging on decent restaurants? Most restaurants are in the casinos and the best casinos offer fabulous reasonably priced buffets. Some are world class.

Avoid buffets in cheap places like Circus Circus.

Just having an ice cream in Caesar's palace in the shopping mall and people watching is nice. The ceiling and general adornment is beautiful.

There's loads to do. I think your DH may have the best idea as you really don't spend much time sleeping when in Vegas. You can visit Bellagio every day if you wish, you don't need to stay there.

If IHOP is still there and you like pancakes, they're worth a visit.

Aragog · 24/06/2019 18:36

Is no one going to mention Circus Circus

We visited there, but I couldn't have stayed there. Just walking by the doors the smell of stale cigarettes and alcohol was enough! Dd did enjoy the fun fair though.

It's a very long flight for 4 nights though; at least a week makes the journey worthwhile.
